5 out of 5 eggsRock solid since 2008

Pros: Board is rock solid. Optical audio output, lots of USB, SATA ports, 4 memory slots. Very well built, durable and nice looking board.

Cons: No hdmi port (no on-board video at all)

Other Thoughts: I build a computer for my g-friend in 2008 using this board and never had a prob with it. Earlier this year (2014) we decided to use it to replace our very old HTPC, so I maxxed the ram, put in a faster processor I had laying around and a 3TB hard drive to go with the 1TB drive it already had. I wish it had onboard video with HDMI, but I'd already used a decent video card with HDMI output in the original build, so it wasn't an issue. Works like a champ. The only issue I've found is when watching TV while copying large files to/from it over the network, the video playback/recording in MediaPortal stutters, but I think that's due to using a network tv tuner and maxxing out the network bandwidth, not the motherboard. Love the optical audio output for hooking into my home theater equip. I've always been an ASUS guy, but will definitely consider other Gigabyte boards in future builds.

Pros: Awesome Motherboard, runs like a champ once everything was tuned

Cons: Some instability with 8gigs of ram, but once I disabled their overclocking software I had no issues.

Other Thoughts: This motherboard is an awesome buy, I highly recommend it.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy!!!

Pros: No comment.

Cons: Constantly Blue Screens. Gigabyte advertises that this m/b supports 8 gb of memory. I'm running WinXP 64 and cannot get the m/b stable with 8gb of ram. Boots up, I login then system blue screens. Have tried new memory and bios updates but no success. Will try to rma board but because I've been fighting this problem so long, probably won't be able to send it back. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GIGABYTE PRODUCT! Their on line support is very slow, don't expect a reply for at least several days. I used to buy ECS m/b and decided to buy quality this time, guess I was mistaken. Suppose I'll try Asus.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Starting Bord

Pros: This is a great bord for someone who wants to build their first computer or does not have a great understanding of computers. Its bios is solid expecialy if you put it on its failsafe setting. I would recomend this bord for anyone who wants to have a rock solid computer without many problems.

Cons: Although I usually overclock a computer using my bios I wanted to try the windows overclocking system provided by the Gigabyte software this was a fatial mistake. Although I only adjusted the fan speed, it caused a major error and caused my computer to hard lock after every boot. In the end I had to revert back to the fail safe settings and remove EasyTune 5 Pro from my operating systems. I also had some problems overclocking since the FSB OverVoltage can only be increased by +0.3v. But I did get Core 2 Quad to clock at 3.30GHz with a Zalman 9700 NT and it passed the Prime95 torture test.

Other Thoughts: In the end I think this bord is great for any person who just wants to learn about computers and overclocking. But if you have extreme gaming or overclocking in mind I advise you go with a higher end bord.

5 out of 5 eggsStable

Pros: I used this to build a media server using an old Pentium D 840. The OS is installed on an 80 GB mirror and all of our media is installed on five 1 TB drives in RAID 5. No issues with the build. I mainly bought this for the number of SATA connections and to try out the Dynamic Energy Saver function as the server will be running 24x7. It's been up for two months now with no problems.

Cons: NewEgg was out of stock when I wanted to buy a 2nd motherboard to replace an older Asus motherboard on my dad's computer. I bought the same Gigabyte model from a different vendor. Unfortunately, the motherboard was DOA.

Other Thoughts: I'm using the GA-EP35C-DS3R for dad's and my wife's build. I'll write a review after a couple months of use.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid, works with Linux

Pros: I like this board. It just worked and seems to be very solid. I installed Linux (Centos 5.2 distribution) and almost everything just worked right out of the box. The only thing that didn't work is the thermal sensors, and when I upgraded my libsensors and the driver in the kernel, it fixed that problem.

Cons: The RAID isn't real. This isn't a criticism of Gigabyte, but rather Intel for the ICH9R. They advertise it as a RAID controller, but it isn't. I should have bought the DS3 and saved a few bux. I abandoned the "Matrix" feature of DS3R and I'm running software RAID1.

5 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard.

Pros: 8 sata, 8 usb, optical, coax, 8gb ram, overclocking abilities.

Cons: bios interface could be easier to use.

Other Thoughts: i was pretty *issed when i first got this mobo. first it wouldnt boot for anything. i couldnt figure it out. i tore it down, started over checking everything one at a time. turned out there was a short under the mobo. i put it all back together and then it wouldnt overclock not even 1mhz. i finally found that this motherboard doesnt like the bsel mod i did on my 2140. so i wipe off the traces and start playing with it. 2.9ghz on stock voltage 366x8 much higher than the previous 280x8 i was able to get on my last motherboard...including the bsel mod to bring it up to 266fsb initially. i can prolly go higher with better ram timings and upping the voltages but for everyday use this is good. 6 days uptime.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Mid-ranged P35 Board

Pros: A rather extensive, but slightly convoluted set(weird labels and names for things) of OCing tools in the BIOS should let you do pretty much anything you want, after you read the manual. Solid features, just missing crossfire, but that is a non-issue.

Cons: At least with the F1 BIOS there is considerable vdrop on Q6600's to get vcore to 1.325 at idle I had to set BIOS to 1.3875. It works, it's just kind of a ridiculous difference. Another problem in the stock BIOS is in S3 sleep sometimes it would go into an infinite loop of restarts after an S3 resume. So far so good with the F3 BIOS, though.

Other Thoughts: Chose over DFI LanParty board due to HSF restritions on friend's build (northbridge spacing).
If you can get over the minor issues on vdrop and S3 the board is very very solid, hard to not recommend.

Build: Q6600, 2x2GB Gskill DDR2-800, Palit 9600GT Sonic, Vista Home Prem x64, Corsair HX520, Xigamatek S1283.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Board, Outrageous Support

Pros: Lots of USB, the eSata connectors were nice.

Cons: My board is bad. It has fried two memory modules, the RAID controller randomly drops and adds member disks, and the BIOS will not recognize USB keyboards even with usd support enabled.

Other Thoughts: I work for an instrument manufacturer, so I don't expect companies to never turn out a bad board. I do expect them to RMA it as quickly as possible to minimize my downtime. Gigabyte not only makes it very difficult to find their RMA site (still haven't found a phone number), but I have been waiting a week so far for an RMA number. I will never purchase from Gigabyte again, not because its a bad board, but because their customer service is awful. It is unacceptable for my computer to be inop. for a month because they can't process RMA's within a reasonable time frame.

5 out of 5 eggsJust buy it!

Pros: Very nice to work with. Love the cables, info on the WEB site and solid instructions. Runs cools.

If you considering new build as I was, this is a solid choice.

Cons: Be careful about installing the drivers that come on the CD. Download the latest from the WEB site and install the chipset first.

Other Thoughts: Will use this one or similar Gibabyte model for a media center build.

Processor installation yields a crunching sound when the cover is closed. Not to worry, its the socket fingers seating on the chip!
