5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: Works great in any OS environment I've thrown at it WindowsXP (32), WindowsXP x64, Linux, and Mac OS X. Very stable, good documentation, nice package of accessories.

Cons: Though not really a con, I was disappointed in the length of the external SATA cables, is unusable. In even a modest chassis, it wouldn't reach around to the front or to the top. A nice feature, but, one of those 'what were they thinking?' moments.

Other Thoughts: Not able to boot from firewire drives (or at least, I've been unsuccessful. Firewire 800 would have been nice, but I'm not complaining.

2 out of 5 eggsGigabyte Support is Aweful, careful of the 30 day New Egg return

Pros: It worked great out of the box for about a month. Stable with a NIC hiccup now and then.

Cons: About a month after i got it the BSOD's started. Gigbtyes support method is to cut and paste the manual to you and responses are extremely slow. Got more troubleshooting tips from google. Updated everything including the BIOS to rev3 the system is still very unstable. Surprise surprise New Egg says you only have 30 days to return it. Gigabyte RMA process can take upwards of a month, I don't have the budget for a new mobo so I'm up a creek without a mobo.

Other Thoughts: My system worked perfect for about a month and is now unstable. I get BSOD stop errors "PFN List Corrupt" & "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" from the realtek rtlh86.sys driver, also on reboots i get "BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR". When the system crashes it will not boot on a restart alone. It will only boot cold. it has to be shutdown all the way and then turned on.

I have loaded the updated drivers (from the gigabyte website) for every component (Audio,NIC, CHipset), rolled back drivers and tried the drivers on the provided CD. I have flashed the BIOS and run memtest for hours on the installed ram simms on this system and others and it has passed without issue or incident. The software change was an update to the new version of itunes before the trouble started and the installation of the game "Grid" for PC. Both pieces of software carry the windows vista seal so they should be fine. I have no unsigned drivers and have run verifier after every update to make sure. The current OS is Vista Ho

5 out of 5 eggsThis board is well worth it.

Pros: After having an Asus P5B-Plus fail I replaced it with this board and I’m extremely glad I did. All my existing hardware was compatible and functioned without problems. Questions I had were answered promptly at their official tech support site at Tweak Town forums. The BIOS took a little time getting use to but reading a little and asking a few questions got more than the results I was looking for in my work computer. 11 hours Prime stable before I turned it off, 2 one hour runs on OCCT, 14000 3dMark 06, nothing outstanding but extremely useable, never a hiccup with any program tested to this point. I like this MB so much I’m going to replace my gaming box’s Asus X38 with a Gigabyte X48 in the not so distance future.

Cons: Absolutely None

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME Stable Board

Pros: Using G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400), Item#:N82E16820231098 , memory with this motherboard which is NOT on the vendor recommended list and it works fantaastic. I have had no issues at all for the past 3 months. I love this memory and the board. I was a loyal ASUS fan for years but have learned that Gigabyte makes makes awesome motherboards too. I feel like they make a much better product. VERY stable board.

Cons: Wish it had PCI Express 16 2.0 but that was my decision to go without as it is not necessary.

Other Thoughts: I will highly recommend Gigabyte to all my friends.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked for 1 day

Pros: Lots of USB, has PS2 keyboard and mouse. PCI slots. Looks cool. (hey, I'm vain). Gigabyte responds within 72 hrs to support queries.

Cons: Wont boot/post/even show the bios screen after working for about 18hrs. All fans and lights come on, but no siginal gets sent to the monitor. The phase led's are all lite, and dont change. It appears it's trying to access the hard drive, but nothing happens. From what I've read, the board will try to access the hard drive to see if there is a good copy/backup of the bios there. Tried removing cmos battery, shorting the jumper. Nothing. Tried another video card, no change.

Other Thoughts: I think this board was bad when shipped but took a minute to actually die. I bought my q9450 and 4 x 2 gig Corsair Dominator 8500 local, and prime95 was failing with rounding errors with the system set stock and everything but the memory voltage set to 'auto'. I exchanged a ram kit I thought had a bad stick, and after reconnecting the power cable, turned on the power supply, and turning it on the issue started happening. This board also has bad DPC spiking, and while unless your running a DAW or doing video editing, you might not notice, to me it was a big deal. The new p45 with the ICH10R S.B. are out, I'm going to upgrade to that, it looks like the DPC issue goes away with this chipset also.

Newegg service rocks, they were nice to me on the phone even though I was rather upset with having to RMA it.

5 out of 5 eggsThis board rules.

Pros: What's not to like? it's quiet, it's efficient, it's got a buttload of ports, and it fits like a glove in my rack case. With the right BIOS tweaks, I was able to do a 99% vanilla install of OSX Leopard, and set up another drive for XP. The heatpipe chipset cooler is awesome, because the 40mm fan on my old EVGA 680i board was about 70% of the noise.. that's gone now. The drive cables don't interfere with the RAM and it was a lot easier to get the CPU seated and installed. The power management is great, in that all the fancy stuff works, unlike the old board. I'm not much of an overclocker, I'm running this as a DAW and occasional graphics/video box, but all the goodies seem to be there, and it's set up friendly enough for a OC noob like me to start flicking it around the track a little bit. (overclocked OSX, booya!) There's also an upgrade path to the 45nm chips and the FSB clock can be pushed to 1333mHz. Not future-proof, but close enough.

Cons: The Gigabyte SATA controller BSOD's XP, but that might be my fault since I didn't install the Gigabyte RAID drivers when I installed XP. No biggie, just disable the Gigabyte SATA ports in the BIOS.. The thing has six ports on the ICH9R anyway. However, the Gigabyte controller works under OSX with the patched kext, so go figure.. My biggest gripe is how long it takes to boot with that controller enabled, because it hunts around for disks first. If you've got nothing plugged in there, it takes a while.

Other Thoughts: If you're building a Hackintosh or a mid-level audio/graphics XP workstation, this board is an excellent place to start. It's feature-rich, rock solid, and tolerant of noob monkey mistakes.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Now it seems to be working fine, especially after I remembered that it came with a disk... Duh! No problems after I ran the disk. It is important to install video driver as clean as possible. I had to go to EVGA website to get updated driver for my GTS card before display stabilized. Now everything seems to be running fine.

Cons: None, other than the fact that I am too brain dead to have noticed the included installation disk. Some important drivers, especially the ethernet driver that allows Web access, are on that disk. Don't do what I did and forget that it is there, under that pile of papers!

5 out of 5 eggsA solid investment

Pros: Very stable board with many features to take advantage of. Despite being 1333 out of the box, it OCs (as advertised) to 1600 effortlessly. Its range of overclocking features and failsafe mechanisms make it easy and safe to push beyond spec. even for a novice, and I have not hade any hardware conflicts, despite running 6-HDDs (a mixed bag of models, and some on RAID-0), and a full 8GB (4x 2gb) of ram.

Cons: I guess it is a bit pricey... but it is already worth every penny, so I'd hardly call it a con because you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: One of the most robust motherboards I have ever used.

1 out of 5 eggsCannot justify any higher rating.

Pros: QFlash is awesome. DOS level BIOS upgrade from a USB drive is just plain slick. ASUS has a similar utility on their boards. NewEgg's customer service is just awe inspiring. Quick and painless. I have been buying from them for years for just this day. What's even more amazing is that they can stay so price competitive while offering stellar customer service.

Cons: Rather than saying the board sucks, here is a recount of my experience. I think this is more useful: Board 1: Wouldn't identify any drive IDE or SATA conntected to the Gigabyte drive controller no matter what BIOS settings were changed. RMA'ed for replacement. Board 2: Properly detected IDE and SATA drives. At this point had nothing but CPU, Memory, MB and Video card installed + integrated devices (USB, LAN, etc.) Dropped in TV tuner card in PCI 1. Claimed to POST but XP, Vista 32, Vista 64 setups all BSOD'ed. Moved to PCI 2. All setups worked. Moved back to PCI 1 after Windows installed. Tuner isn't found. Went back into BIOS disabled onboard Serial & Parallel. Tuner is found. Probably IRQ conflict. So much for auto IRQ assignment. Now for the fun stuff. Windows ran for a couple hours then it would crash so hard it would either hard reset and cycle the power on and off in 5-10 second durations, or power off entirely and cycle when you tried to power it on again. BIOS reset once too

Other Thoughts: I typically throw out 1 Egg reviews as exaggerations. In all of the years I've built PCs I've never had the problems I had with this board even back in the days of manually setting hard drive and IRQ values in the BIOS. XP setup starts quickly. Vista 32 and 64 setups take a good 10 minutes to display first form. Lag from probing the system? I was able to use F1 BIOS but I flashed to F3. Hardware for reference: 8GB of Mushkin Redline (2GBx4). Tried 2,4,6,8GB configurations relaxed settings of 5-5-5-18 800@1.8v and 2.0v. Memtest86+ confirms no memory problems. Evga 8800GTS. Q9300. Corsair 620 Watt P/S. Searching web revealed power cycle issue on several Gigabyte boards (P35,X38,X48). Others had success with this board. NewEgg's return is pretty liberal compared to some other boards so maybe you want to give it a try. After strike two it was RMA'ed for refund. If your application doesn't match mine (i.e. lots of RAM and one or more PCI cards) then this may be your board.

5 out of 5 eggsI love this board

Pros: This is the seond build I have done around this board and like the first, I couldn't be happier. Plug everyhing in, power on, get into BIOS to adjust RAM timings and voltage, and its been running perfectly ever since.

Cons: None
