Lots Of Trouble..But Nice
- Pros: Beautiful bios selection, great temperatures (never got above 36 degrees). I love the processor compatibility, as well as the 1066 ram. The Sli on AMD is a good plus. Can't wait to get it back.
- Cons: Nothing if i could get it to work...-.-
- Other Thoughts: I had this board the first time, and a few SATA ports were jacked up. I needed the SATA ports, so i RMAed that sucker. Got my second board, and it worked like a dream......for a while. I left it running overnight. and when i awoke, i had a giant PINK screen. I restarted and it posted, but didnt give me the option to choose which operating system i wanted to boot. I restarted again.....this time no post. So i reset the CMOS.....no post. took out the ram and got a long beep. Put one stick in rotating slots...no post. So i went to RMA it a second time, however Newegg would not let me. So now i am going through Gigabyte, and hopefully i should have it back soon to use my 6gb of 1066 ram, 9850 quad, and my 8800gt.
Nice price and layout but very buggy.
- Pros: Good price. Built two systems with this board. Run great if they don't bug out on you.
One has a Phenom 9550, GTX 280 and 4GB ram running XP64.
The other has an Athlon 64X2 6000+, dual GF 8800GT's and 4gb ram running Vista64.
But do your self a favor and buy a quality audio card. Otherwise your going to be in realtek hell (The HT Omega is a good card for under a hundred bucks). Also keep a POST card handy.
- Cons: The on board realtek audio has to be the biggest waste of silicon I have ever seen. Interfaces are inconsistent between windows XP/Vista. For example certain options are not available in the XP64 vs the Vista64 interface. The buggy jack detection notification will spaz out minimizing a game to tell you something was (un)plugged when nothing was. The disable jack detection option does not work in XP and is non existent in Vista. Front panel audio jacks failed on one board already, they simply don't work. The other board cant use a mic, tried 3 different mics, no audio at all.
Both systems appeared to fail within a week of each other. The first failure was it would blue screen constantly. After a reboot the machine failed to post. The Phenom machine also failed to post. Using a post card I found the systems hung upon memory detection and kept trying to reboot. All memory tested fine and upon re installation of memory the systems worked fine. Never before saw that problem.
- Other Thoughts: Why is realtek the only company making on board sound chips? Their products are cheap, low preformance, buggy, and fail often. Pure garbage. Had 3 other systems with realtek and all had audio problems.
Also they should have better positioned the front panel audio header. One system the cable was too short and I could not hook it up. The other systems cable barely reached. It is placed right next to the rear audio jacks when it should be toward the front like the front USB headers. Lazy design.
I have used Gigabyte before and their boards are excellent. This time I am starting to loose faith. After having two boards exhibit the same failures and bugs I am beginning to question the Q&A at Gigabyte.
Glad I Bought It
- Pros: Stays cool and has a nice layout. Better OC then my old M57SLI much more options. Supports Quad if i ever decide to switch.
- Cons: Can't realy think of any beside it doesn't support higher memory speeds.
- Other Thoughts: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ @ 3.3GHz with no Voltage changes.
Sorry that i couldn't think of much more to say.
