5 out of 5 eggsStill Going!

Pros: Built system using this MB for my wife back in January 2009.
No real problems to speak of.
All the components have been awesome.

Cons: None!
I always wanted the Antec case for myself! Very nice.
I doubt anyone will ever read this!

Other Thoughts: All original components:
Antec earthwatts EA430 430W PS.
GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2 AMD 740G Micro ATX AMD MB.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 Dual-Core 3.1GHz AM2.
WD Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s HD.
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 Memory.
AC Freezer 64 Pro 92mm Ceramic CPU Cooler.
LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner.
Antec Mini P180 MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case.
Later added a used Intel 330180GB SSD - still using WD drive,
and EVGA 550 TI - underclocked for the PS just in case.
Running Win7 Pro 64bit.

5 out of 5 eggsA++ Done its job beyond its lifespan

Pros: Built my first computer with an older brother in 2009. Upgrades here and there through out the years. But now it is definitely out of date. It still works okay, now I'm looking into upgrading and building a computer to fit my needs.

Just recently my northbridge (tmpin2) has been reaching well above operating temperature (102*C on normal load) and while I was backing everything up and transferring all my files into an external drive, temp for tmpin2 reached 121*C. I give this board props for being able to outlive these obstacles

Cons: Just outdated, I wish I can get my tmpin2 redone so I may keep the system on the side, other than what it was designed for 5 years ago. nothing.

Other Thoughts: AMD Phenom 2.2Gb (OC'd to 2.63Gb and stable at 1.340V)
Overheating occurred prior to over clocking.

4 out of 5 eggsgood board

Pros: great stable starter board

Cons: some minimal upgrade room not much.

Other Thoughts: To in response to new egg user Vincent who reviewed this as well.. your issue is more then likely a power-supply issue not main-board issue.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked good for 2 years then died

Pros: System worked right out of the box. Installed WindowsXP then last year upgraded to Windows7 with no issues.

Cons: Beginning December started having random BSODs. Swapped RAM and still continued. Reinstalled Windows7 and took over 1 day to install. Now it can't get past POST.

Other Thoughts: Worked great when it worked....

2 out of 5 eggsRisky board to run...

Pros: It works, no crashes or anything yet.

Cons: Horrible temps all over the board - surprised motherboard hasn't caught fire yet. Not doing anything that would cause this - running supported CPU without overclock, other parts running very cool, just the motherboard temps that are not normal.

Other Thoughts: I have other Gigabyte boards and they're great, but this one I wouldn't recommend unless you wanted to cook bacon on your computer (maybe I just got unlucky though).

5 out of 5 eggsStill chugging along in 2013

Pros: Bought this MB back in 2009 for a good price at the time and installed it without any problems. Packaging was satisfactory. It's 2013 now and it's still chugging along splendidly...I've been wondering if it's time to upgrade, but since I upgraded my video card a couple of years ago and I'm looking to upgrade my memory right now, I'm thinking it's still going to be chugging along until my games either require something better or my OS requires an upgrade (I'm still running on XP, even now).

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: It's a pretty little board that can support 8Gb of memory, but since XP only supports less than 4, that's what I'm stuck at. I was actually doing all right with just 2Gbs, so it's neither a pro nor con...I just decided (finally) that I needed a little more, that's all.

1 out of 5 eggsFail!

Pros: cheap...

Cons: This motherboard gave me problems from the start, I would be watching movies or listening to music. I would leave the room and come back and the onboard audio would just cut out. I had to restart the computer to get it working again. And then about a month ago the motherboard started to go. Now I can't get it to work at all, and I've tried everything resetting the CMOS, removing the onbaord battery, tried new HD's, and new video cards. Oh and the on board video took a dump as well. So I have a big frisbee at this point.

Other Thoughts: It looks that this has happened before and it sounds like gigabyte has horrible customer service.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat on a budget

Pros: Gigabyte boards are well built and solidly designed. This was an inexpensive board packed with features for a budget build for a friend. It had everything I needed. I put an AMD 3.2 Regor 65 watt processor on it and together with that and 4 gigs of G.Skill DDR2 800 memory it is a nice machine for a very low price. The BIOS is packed with features for enhancing performance if you desire. The optimized defaults work fine for me and a simple build. I have bought several Gigabyte boards after years of buying ASUS and MSI boards. None of the Gigabyte boards have ever failed. I have had issues with both of the other manufacturers.

Cons: This goes for many if not most Motherboard manufacturers. I wish their qualified vendor list for memory was broader. I could have installed DDR2 1066. The processor's memory controller supports it but the ones on the list were significantly more expensive then the G.Skill DDR2 800 I bought. If I bought DDR2 1066 off the list it would probably not have worked at the rated speed.
