Gigabyte has long been a leader in energy-saving motherboards and their GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard continues the trend. This board features 6 gear power switching. As your system needs more power, it gets it, and when the power load goes down, so does the supplied power. This lets you have power when you need it, and save energy and money when you don't.
Based on Intel's P45 Express and ICH10R chipsets, this ATX board is ready to host the latest LGA775 Core 2 Extreme multi-core processors along with Core 2 quad-core, Core 2 Duo, Pentium D and Celeron CPUs. Up to 16GB of DDR2 1366+ can be installed providing increased performance. A pair of PCI-Express 2.0 x16 cards can be mounted for cutting-edge graphic power with support for CrossFireX.
System durability and security are as important as ever. Gigabyte's DualBIOS system has a second BIOS chip on the motherboard for quick and painless recovery from crashes and viruses. Count on Gigabyte's experience and innovation!

Great Mobo
- Pros: Right out of the box you can tell this baby will kick ****. The Heat pipe and Heat sinks look awesome. The placement of components on the mobo was put into consideration giving plenty of room for 2 dual slot graphic cards and Pci-e and Pci cards in between. Bios are straight forward with Easy and Advance OC features. With 2oz of copper and EasyTune 6 or just C.I.A 2 in the bios you can overclock with ease.
- Cons: Was a bit tight installing a Zalman CNPS 9700NT because of the heat sink and capacitors being so close to the cpu socket. No jumpers in the box incase you needed to clear the CMOS. The CMOS is open with 2pins, to clear you must place a jumper on the 2pins for a few seconds then remove. Lucky I have some extras lying around. 3 case fan connectors instead of 4, but not a big deal.
- Other Thoughts: Very happy with the motherboard, when they say Durable they mean it.
Best Motherboard to date
- Pros: Price, cool, NO Parallel/Serial ports on the rear panel! Instead it has 8 USB ports. In addition, the rear port panel has optical/coaxial S/PDIF so I can connect it to my Sony reciever via optical when I play my Blu-Ray Disc, Dual Gigabit ethernet ports, Built-in Dolby Home Theater with 6 HD audio ports, 2 x 1394a firewire ports, PS/2 ports for Mouse/Keyboard (I like to use these during the initial install then move to USB wireless...less headaches). In addition, the motherboard has:
8 SATA 3.0 Gb/s and RAID...6 by the Southbridge (RAID 0, 1, 1+0 & 5) and 2 by GIGABYTE SATA2 chipset (RAID0, 1, JBOD). It also comes with a bracket with two eSATA ports and a MOLEX power port so you can immediately support up to 2 eSATA devices. 1 PATA supporting 2 x ATA100 devices. 4 slots supporting up to DDR2 1366+ and 16GB dual channel. PCI-E 2.0 x16, PCI-E 2.0 x8, Three PCI-E x1, and Two PCI Slots. 4 x onboard USB 2.0 ports, 1 x onboard 1394a
- Cons: Some of the GIGABYTE Apps will not install on Vista such as Time Repair.
- Other Thoughts: This is probably the best motherboard I've worked with to date. I'm really starting to like GIGABYTE boards (this is 3rd one in less than 10 months).
Wolfdale E8500 3.16GHz, Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066, EVGA GeForce 9800 GT, WD 500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s & LG Blu-Ray DVD-ROM (w/ Lightscribe and DVD±R DL support) enclosed in Antec Sonata III 500. This rig is very quiet and still runs cool.

Wasted my money
- Pros: Runs OK at first.
- Cons: Gigabyte specs indicate "Support for Microsoft/ Windows/ Vista/XP" but couldn't load XP Pro SP1 from my MSDN subscription disks so had to shell out extra $$ for a standalone XP Pro SP2. This version loaded and it worked find for about 6 mos., then I started getting random crashes and hangs. Now I have to replace the thing. Wasted a lot of time and money.
Manual improvements needed
- Pros: Quality appears to be very good.
- Cons: Manual has several errors including 8X pci slot labeled as 16X, Connector for case wiring connections has polarity designations do not agree with manual for as + signs should be back to back rather than switched with one designation being positive and one negative. That said the reset and power switches, are just that, switches so polarity is not totally relevant. Motherboard has a 12V 8 pin connector and Raidmax power supply only had a 4 pin 12V connector and this difference was not disussed in either manual. For those of us who read the manuals and have less experience with these things these omissions do cause confusion.
Works Great With Citrix Free Xen Server
- Pros: Very Stable! Installed Xen Server 5.0 without any problems. Installed both onboard NIC without driver issues. Board is solid & a pleasure to handle - liked it so much I bought another one for my husband.
- Cons: I don't think it's hardware related, but when I installed the 1st XenServer patch, the system became unstable.
- Other Thoughts: Currently running Xen Server 5.0 (free), Core 2 Quad 6700, 8 GB RAM, 1TB HDD for Xen & the VM's. Have installed an additional 2 NIC Cards (total 4). I have 2 separate networks going - a lab (with Untangle FW & Fedora 9x64 web server) & a home/business (with Untangle FW, Win2k8 as a DC & add'l Win2k8 as Exchange Server) Using only 67% of my RAM & about 3% of my CPU's. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY - no crashes & no hangs. This is the second time I've tried to build this system, the 1st time I had a different board & it was completely unstable!
