Gigabyte has long been a leader in energy-saving motherboards and their GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard continues the trend. This board features 6 gear power switching. As your system needs more power, it gets it, and when the power load goes down, so does the supplied power. This lets you have power when you need it, and save energy and money when you don't.

Based on Intel's P45 Express and ICH10R chipsets, this ATX board is ready to host the latest LGA775 Core 2 Extreme multi-core processors along with Core 2 quad-core, Core 2 Duo, Pentium D and Celeron CPUs. Up to 16GB of DDR2 1366+ can be installed providing increased performance. One PCI-Express x16, three PCI Express x1 and three PCI slots completely meet your expansion needs.

System durability and security are as important as ever. Gigabyte's DualBIOS system has a second BIOS chip on the motherboard for quick and painless recovery from crashes and viruses. Count on Gigabyte's experience and innovation!

5 out of 5 eggsI could not be happier.

Pros: For me personally, everything!

I have this board paired with a Core2 Quad Q9400, 8GB of OCZ Gold, Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, EVGA GTX 260 superclocked, 4 hard drives, DVD burner and a Corsair 650TX all housed in a Antec 900 case.

I have been running this machine almost 24/7/365 since I have put it together in January of 2009. It has served me well as a great gaming machine although the video card is now showing it's age a little with the newer game engines coming out. I have been very happy with being able to work on much larger photoshop projects and having the program able to just zip right along.

I live in the northeast and even during some of our hotter summers this beast never slowed down. I kept a good eye on temps and was sure to re paste the chip every year. It also gets a frequent visit from the air compressor. I really believe it serves as a testament to it's advertising considering the ultra durability.

Cons: None at all. I definitely got my bang for the buck.

4 out of 5 eggsstill kicking

Pros: still working after about 5 years of being on constently. i use it for 3d modeling and animation, as well as for music. i don't need drivers i use ubuntu.

Cons: had problems with running 8GB of g.skill DDR II 1066 at rated speed. tweeked it finally and ran memory @1066mhz with 4 X 2GB. then after about 4 years, it decided it did not want to run memory at that speed. it was only designed to run 2 sticks @1066 not 4. i am now running 3@800. i think one of the dimms went bad.

Other Thoughts: board is finicky with the voltages, after talking to g.skill and gigabyte techs, 4 stick memory issues. i have the latest bios. all in all tis board is very durable and still going after 5+ years. last several builds we're with gigabyte. maybe the next one will be also

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for its time

Pros: Rock solid performance when operated within manufacturer's specs. Easy overclock to 1.5x. LOTS of SATA II ports. AHCI and onboard RAID. Easy to build onto.

Cons: PCIe x1 slots are PCIe 1.0 (rather than 2.0 like the x16 slot). That means if you want to add a smoking fast SSD to the system, you're limited to SATA II speeds. Obsolete - although many socket 775 CPUs are still around, the upgrade path for my Q6600 is pretty limited. No eggs off for obsolescence. It's still a GREAT MB and I don't expect to retire it any time soon - it's my workhorse.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board in 2008, before SSDs. I purchased my first SSD in 2009 - a first gen OCZ solid - it sucked (I use it as an amusing paperweight now). I recently purchased my second SSD and find it maxes out the SATA II pipe. I looked into using a PCIe-to-SATA III adapter. Problem is that this MB offers only PCIe x1 ports in the PCIE 1.0 spec. That limits my nice speedy SSD to SATA II speeds. Still, that is REALLY fast in comparison to my HDD. ATTO pegs my Kingston HyperX 3K SSD at 285 MB/s and 270 MB/s r/w respectively. I'm happy with that.

5 out of 5 eggsHave to pinch myself once in a while....

Pros: Just have to pinch myself once in a while cause I can't believe how rock solid this board has been since I purchased it on 11/29/2008. It has been loaded to the max and oc'd with a Q6600 running at 3.8ghz for almost 4 years. All this from a guy who has, until purchasing this board, upgraded his platform every 6 months. I keep looking for a reason to upgrade this platform but I still can't find a reason. When I do start itching to upgrade, I only look to the Gigabyte boards due to the stellar performance of his one.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsStill running strong

Pros: I put a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor in this and a 560ti. It runs bf3 at 60 fps on high with 2x msaa. This was not supposed to last this long... It is now my office computer so I can get in some games in between stuff.

Cons: When I first got it, It needed a bios update to be stable. A few blue screens

5 out of 5 eggsUD3R King of the P45 Chipset

Pros: Price (when purchased over 3 years ago from the egg). Build quality. Extremely durable. Well laid out.

Cons: Released when the 775 socket was already peaked and ready for decline.

Other Thoughts: I felt this board deserved a review even though it's now extinct and obsolete. I'm still rocking my UD3R I bought here from the egg. And, over the years, it has taken every single form of over voltage I have thrown at it like a champ. This board was Gigabyte's masterpiece, their 9th Symphony. Even now this board is running an old Q6600 at 3.85 GHz with 1.532v BIOS/1.508v CPU-Z and running strong--knock on wood. This board took my old E7400 to a 500+ fsb and my RAM to insanely high speeds well beyond what it's rated for. This board is the only reason I have been able to buy the pieces for my new build slowly (saving money along the way) as I am absolutely no hurry to upgrade--this thing takes obsolete old hardware/components and makes them into beasts! Out of respect for you, my trusty old UD3R, I am writing this review and I hope newegg posts it. This is one piece of hardware that truly deserves the respect of the overclocking community. 2 out of 5 eggsOnly lasted 2.5 years

Pros: Easy to setup and works fast (When it works).

Cons: Started to have random freeze-ups about a year ago. I even experienced freezing in the BIOS! I have changed the memory, did a fresh install of windows, and BIOS updates. Still freezes.

Other Thoughts: I have tried everything that I know and I am unhappy that this board only lasted 3 years (2.5 without problems). Now, I have to find a new motherboard that will work with all the other hardware that I have. The new board will not be Gigabyte!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Look!

Pros: Has a under-the-hood car engine look to it. Has worked great for 2 years.

Cons: one of the plugs for the front panel never worked but I never worried about it.

Other Thoughts: great curb appeal
