3 out of 5 eggsDied after three year warranty period

Pros: When it was working, it worked very well. Plenty of slots.

Cons: Power would not work after three years. I thought that it was the power supply, but it turns out to have been the motherboard.

1 out of 5 eggsfirst, and maybe last, gigabyte board

Pros: none

Cons: bought this board new on Feb 11th 2013, upon initial bootup with basic components (memory, graphics and CPU) I get nothing. check connections, clear CMOS, remove all memory except a single stick, and get the pulse boot cycle others have gotten. got the basic reply from gigabyte (check this, check that) which, if your even a little computer savvy, you already have done, 3 times over... still no reply recent reply from gigabyte at this time. even after 2 more attempts to contact them.
my work station consists of a rubber floor mat, wooden chair (no metal, at all) a rubber mat to work on the wooden table. I wear a wrist band at all times and I always leave PS plugged in, with power switch on PS in the off position.

Other Thoughts: Ive dealt with a few bad mobo's before, and every time Ive gotten an almost immediate reply from the companies (ASUS, BFG, EVGA, MSI, AsRock, ECS) usually within 24 hrs of my inquiry. going on 3 months with gigabyte and nothing...

if this is the support I can expect, you can bet I will never purchase another gigabyte product, and I will take my few clients with me.

4 out of 5 eggsRunning strong

Pros: Has been working well for over 2 years. Lot of expansion options.

Cons: Had some difficulty getting the OCZ memory to work. Had to refer to the OCZ forum to change lot of memory timing settings.

Other Thoughts: Like many have pointed out I could got a DDR3 board since the DDR sticks are lot cheaper these days

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Looks nice, good component layout and decent features.

Cons: It breaks. I have had 3 of these mobo's die on two computers, each time they made it maybe a year before dieing, well beyond the usual 'burn in' period.

Other Thoughts: Glad to see this board is out of stock, hopefully it will never be carried again.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Hackintosh

Pros: Perfect plug-n-play implementation for Hackintosh systems.

Cons: None, price at the time was perfect, looks like it's OOS now.

Other Thoughts: Running this board in two hackintoshes. One is a HTPC with a C2D 2.8ghz. The other is a rackmount desktop machine with a Q9550 and 8GB ram. This system has 7 different VM's installed (various Linux and Windows), but runs Snow Leopard as Host OS.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Board

Pros: I have owned this board for 9 months now and have had no problems. I am running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate with a Q6600 Quad Core and a GTX 260 216 Core. I used 4 1GB memory chips I had to put in all 4 slots - 2 Samsung and 2 Crucial (DDR2 667mhz) and they have worked great. I never changed any bios settings from their default so it worked right out of the box.

Cons: None so far. Just wish I would have gotten a DDR3 board since the memory now is much cheaper than DDR2.

Other Thoughts: I have seen a lot of negative reviews, but I just have not experienced any of the problems others have had. I did get the rev. 1.1 of this board and have not changed from Bios version F8 that it came with even though F9 is available.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice board-just 1 RAM quirk

Pros: Low price, LOTS of USB 2.0 & SATA connections, HD audio. Great board for my Man-Cave HTPC. Had zero problems installing Win7 Ultimate 32bit or my Hauppauge tuner (which was installed just a few weeks ago).

Cons: BIOS recognizes RAM as PC2-8500/1066, but CPUID shows it as PC2-6400. Running even just half of the bells & whistles Win7 Ultimate has causes brain freeze, and will not wake up from sleep without a reboot (hitting the power switch on the case and waiting 5 minutes or so will eventually shut down the system). I don't want to overclock this, I just want it to run as rated.

Other Thoughts: I did quite a bit of research before selecting this board, and this particular model met the criteria for my basic, non-gaming/HTPC. Nice layout, and has enough connections for the hardware I chose to put in it. 6 SATA connections are good, but you might want to have an assortment of cables depending on how many peripherals you install (90 degree/straight/combo). HD audio sounds very nice, especially with my Sennheiser HD555 cans. I tried to find a solution to my RAM problem through the G-byte forums & Google, but couldn't find anything that satisfied me unless I overclocked. Not what I want to do. Since turning off all goodies, the system is stable, with only a screen saver running (going on 7 months now). Here's the hardware:
Lian-Li Lancool PC-K56
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L
G.Skill (2X1GB) PC2 8500 model F2-8500CL5D
Intel 2.93GHz E6500 LGA775 Wolfdale Dual-Core
Asus EN8400 512MB video
OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP 500W
Hauppauge HVR-1250 Hybrid tuner
Lite-On iHAS424-98 SAT

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board, Bad Company

Pros: Good and solid...when it works

Cons: Pathetic RMA Department in California

Other Thoughts: I have one client for whom I have had to exchange this board TWICE in the past month. The first one refused to recognize any amount or speed of RAM put into the slots. I even varied the brands and know that all the memory is good as they all work in other boards (including other GA-EP45-UD3L boards). After two attempts with Gigabyte's RMA Department, they sent me a replacement board. (The first time, they sent me the same board back saying "No Problem Found." Yeah, right! At least they paid for the shipping to and from them for the second attempt.) The problem is now that I have the replacement board, I find that it does recognize the memory but that the IDE interface doesn't work. Further, when trying to install Windows XP on the machine, Setup blue-screens when loading PCI.sys. This happens with three different optical drives and a dozen XP installation discs. I have submitted a THIRD RMA to Gigabyte at this point and hope for final resolution! I am not a happy camper!
