4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great motherboard! Plenty of options for overclocking with tons of utilities from Gigabyte. Recommend this one for anyone who wants alittle more from their high performance/gaming desktop..

Cons: limited bios info due to it being discontinued. Could use more slots. first gen i7 board

5 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with some GTX 400 and 500 series cards

Pros: Very durable card with great performance and stability. Awesome options and great price.

Cons: Now outdated. Does not support newer cards like the GTX400 series and some of the 500 series such as the 560Ti.

Other Thoughts: Search The Nvidia 400/500 series lockup club! In google for more info.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board, but have annoying sound issues

Pros: For being the first full computer I had built by myself everything worked pretty much perfectly the first time I powered it up. A year later everything is still working perfectly with no problems, which one exception which I will outline below. I did have to do some tweaking to get maximum performance out of my RAM, but wasn't a big deal at all through the bios. Pretty easy to use if you have general knowledge on how a computer works.

Cons: I am having sound issues. I don't know if it has to do with RealTek, Windows 7 64bit or what the deal it, but when I start up my computer it sounds fine. If the computer goes into standby the sound is all garbled and sounds like garbage until the computer is restarted. Furthermore the realtek software absolutely sucks and will not keep settings saved (even after standby). So my 5.1 THX altec system is only operating at a 2.1 unless I reset the settings EVERY SINGLE TIME I reset the computer. Tried upgrading drivers and then calling Gigabyte, but only was able to email them. Their tech support for completely worthless with email response once ever 2 days. At this rate I might have the problem fixed within about 2 years. Step it up Gigabyte....that's pretty weak.

4 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard, but not perfect

Pros: Worked great right out of the box. There are tons of indicator lights to help you know what's going on (overvoltage, overclock, system temps, etc). The CMOS reset switch that comes on the IO board is GREAT.

Cons: For a board that is meant to make overclocking easy, it sure looks difficult for a beginner.

Also, the default voltage settings are a bit too high. Auto, at least for me, dumps way too much into my system. I manually set my Core Voltage in the BIOS to .96V or so and was able to run a stable system that was 10C cooler at load.

The software that comes with the board is also buggy. Some things don't even install properly.

Also, the slot management is a bit wonky. If you plan on using a big video card, you'd better plan ahead, because that sucker's going to be covering up quite a bit.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: So far no problems, I was able to get an i7 920 up to 4 Ghz with corsair XM3 at 1600 (I used profile and left most of the settings on auto)

Cons: If you aren't using all 6 slots of ram, fill the white slots closest to the cpu first, I assumed that slot 1 was the blue slot closest to the CPU but that's not the case.

5 out of 5 eggsComplete Satisfaction

Pros: Excellent layout, rock-solid stability, generous overclocking options.

Cons: Price of X58 chipset

Other Thoughts: I am completely satisfied with this Gigabyte motherboard. I have had no issues with performance, stability, or tweaking limitations. I have not experienced the high-pitched whine that others have mentioned, and it was simple to change the BIOS settings to achieve a high, stable overclock on my air-cooled Core i7-920.

5 out of 5 eggsWhiner Hater

Pros: I dont know why there are so many whiners out there. Stuff happens. I've run this board 24 hours a day for 6 months straight at 1600 mhz 6 sticks at over 3500 mhz cpu speed and have no problems. Vista 64 loads in under 10 seconds includeing shutdown. Superfast. My benchmark scores are super rediculously high also.

Cons: I bought this origionally with the f1a bios and now running f7 bios may go to f9 but yeah i had some severe issues at first when this board came out with the origional bios. But i stuck in there and worked them out. How many times have i read DOA - makes me nuts.

Other Thoughts: I just dont get what all the complaints are about. You buy a cutting edge new piece of hardware but cant use your wits to diag anything. boo hoo go buy an asus. i bet you wont get your asus running either.

3 out of 5 eggsSqueal Buzz High Pitched Noise

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Many people are complaining of a noise comming from the motherboard while using this mobo.
I too have had this and it's too late for me to return it to newegg. So if your stuck with the board the way I got rid of the sound was by modifying the CPU voltage, changing it from "AUTO" which set it at 1.2555 to manual and changed it to 1.2000

Other Thoughts: I haven't contacted Gigabyte but I thought I would post my solution and perhaps put it out there that there is a problem with board.
With the price on this thing I didn't expect for it to be noisy at default settings.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Clean and easy board to work with. Plenty of options to keep your tweaking jones happy.

Cons: The PCI-E x1 slot is useless. The NB heatsink is too tall to fit any card longer than the slot itself. The board runs at x16/x8/x8 when you have three cards plugged into the x16 slots.

Other Thoughts: Great board and the two small dings can't shake the fact that this board rocks.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Motherboard for i7 CPU

Pros: Stable board, plenty of connections, including cooling fans. I have two of these running Vista64 and i7 CPU's for video editing (and some gaming). No OC.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have built about two dozen systems over the last several years with Gigabyte mother boards and had only one ever failing and that after close to a year. The Gigabyte RMA procedure was painless and I had a repaired board shipped back to me in no time.
