Good motherboard, but not perfect
- Pros: Worked great right out of the box. There are tons of indicator lights to help you know what's going on (overvoltage, overclock, system temps, etc). The CMOS reset switch that comes on the IO board is GREAT.
- Cons: For a board that is meant to make overclocking easy, it sure looks difficult for a beginner.
Also, the default voltage settings are a bit too high. Auto, at least for me, dumps way too much into my system. I manually set my Core Voltage in the BIOS to .96V or so and was able to run a stable system that was 10C cooler at load.
The software that comes with the board is also buggy. Some things don't even install properly.
Also, the slot management is a bit wonky. If you plan on using a big video card, you'd better plan ahead, because that sucker's going to be covering up quite a bit.
No problems
- Pros: So far no problems, I was able to get an i7 920 up to 4 Ghz with corsair XM3 at 1600 (I used profile and left most of the settings on auto)
- Cons: If you aren't using all 6 slots of ram, fill the white slots closest to the cpu first, I assumed that slot 1 was the blue slot closest to the CPU but that's not the case.
Complete Satisfaction
- Pros: Excellent layout, rock-solid stability, generous overclocking options.
- Cons: Price of X58 chipset
- Other Thoughts: I am completely satisfied with this Gigabyte motherboard. I have had no issues with performance, stability, or tweaking limitations. I have not experienced the high-pitched whine that others have mentioned, and it was simple to change the BIOS settings to achieve a high, stable overclock on my air-cooled Core i7-920.
