- Pros: Fairly smooth build. Used Windows 7 64 bit. Everything came right up.
- Cons: The instructions aren't real clear on the 2X4 power connector. My power supply has a 2X2 power connector. The instructions say the motherboard is compatible with a 2X2 connector but not real clear how to connect it. It worked just by plugging the 2X2 plug into the left side of the 2X4 plug.
It spoke to me
- Pros: After having problems with 3 different ASUS M4A78 PRO motherboards refusing to post with "deafening" SILENCES, I ordered 1 of these. It also refused to post, but at least it gave me some beep codes to identify the problem (see cons). Corsair Dominator memory to blame - seems its 2.2 voltage requirement out of range for the DEFAULT mobo settings, and without a post, no way to adjust. With different Corsair memory, NO problems.
Board just feels "solid". Number of onboard mobo connectors (usb, firewire) for growth. I was looking for a board with on board video and lan, and this board has that. The i/o connector plate easier to fit than the ASUS, and it did NOT have annoying clips that have a tendency to get caught in the i/o ports when fitting the board.
- Cons: This board is about an inch shorter in width than a standard atx, so it doesn't reach the last row of mounting posts. No big deal, just removed them, and nothing heavy hanging on there. While plugging in the 24 pin main power connector, I just used a couple of rubber erasers placed between the board and the case for support.
It does require a 2x4 aux power connector (other boards only use 1x4), so make sure you have a PSU that has the additional connector.
Common now, no on board speaker, and with cases not having speakers anymore, the purchase of a "post" speaker comes in handy.
I did miss the ASUS front panel quick connect bracket for the mobo.
I understand the concentration on more "mainstream" OS's, but I really don't think Windows Home Server is that far off the path. No firewire drivers (that I could find), so those ports not available to me with this OS.
- Other Thoughts: Running WHS with an AMD Athlon II Processor X2 245, 2.9 GHz AM3 socket cpu. Given this is a headless server, I just needed the video for the initial install, and perhaps some maintenance.
PSU is the Rosewill RP550V2-D-SL 550W ATX12V v2.01 SLI.
Very Nice Mobo!
- Pros: One of the cheapest and best quality mobo
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: wished it has 2 PCI Express x16 2.0
