Great Motherboard, 1 little issue
- Pros: The board runs perfectly, and has been super stable. I have my i7 860 running at 3.6ghz at 1.18v. The features are great for the price.
- Cons: Now the only complaint I have is the layout of the board. Notice how close the RAM slot are the the CPU socket. I had a very difficult time getting my Arctic cooling CPU cooler to fit. I had to grind off part of the fan shroud because it hits the motherboard heat sinks. Once you get your CPU cooler on, you will have a hard time getting your RAM into place. I was only able to get my Corsair dominator Memory into place after removing the heat spreaders from one of the dimms. I have noticed that many other boards have moved the memory slots further from the CPU slot.
- Other Thoughts: Good board, but irritating setup

- Cons: Not usb 3. Not a big deal.

Solid
- Pros: Has been as close to flawless as I could expect. Bought this, gskill trid 2gx2 -gbtd ram[WEI 7.5], i7-860 [WEI 7.5](during post reports "patch 0000003", whatever that is??, at least the post is informative enough to let me know what revision of i7 i have), WD velociraptor 300g HDD[WEI 5.9], my old bfgtech 650w PSU. 5870 from competitor[WEI 7.8 for both standard and gaming graphics](hey you guys were out of stock), win7 h.prem 64bit. Gigabyte has updated their bios, drivers, and utilities continuously. There was even a .20 intel chipset driver for a week or 2, probably a fluke trying to work with various mfgs. to sort out what few problems users have reported. I've downloaded everything, just haven't installed anything other than the original auto install cd drivers. I'm still running the original F3 BIOS. When I do update I'll probably blow win7 away with a fresh install. WEI=windows experience index. it's a scale from 1 to 7.9. The 5.9 for WD is misleading, it is ultra fastandquiet.
- Cons: The link on the autoinstall CD for auto driver checks goes to a page that just seems to be incompatible with win7's IE. Manual driver check necessary. Took about a week for Giga to repond to my easytune error/chipset driver inquiry, which only addressed my easytune inquiry, and it was a wrong answer, but they did respond. The easytune produced an error every boot, but it still ran, just an almost hidden icon by the clock. TW and US websites lag about 2 days from each other. When coming out of standby, a HAL ERROR is logged in event viewer, think it causes win7 to recapture pre-standby database states. Could have come with the LPT cable and bracket. the motherboard box should be about an inch taller to fit all the manuals from accessories in when building a new machine. Before updating my vid card's catalyst drivers, running the WEI caused the system to hang(no fault of giga). The monsoon LE heatsink/fan combo with i7 weighs too much to think about mounting, gonna be a case ornament.
- Other Thoughts: I haven't tested most addons for this board. Just mount, plug in 2 mem chips, proc and fan, connect HDD, old PATA dvd burner, vid card, power connections, fired up no problems and no problems since, from an end-user perspective. The obvious attention giga has given to this board's drivers and utils likely resolves all of the addressable cons. Giga should repackage the CD if they haven't already. Keep in mind the cons are with a brand new version of windows, a brand new intel released processor, a brand new form of DDR3 ram. I haven't changed the CMOS from default, haven't even enabled the memory XMP yet. The "default" system has run orange box HL2, dragon age origins, combat arms, and call of duty modern warfare flawlessly without having to take anything apart, and only one video driver upgrade. Oh DO NOT update your realtek network driver with windows update optional, you'll lose network connectivity. if this happens, just uninstall, and install from giga's original CD...
