Fine mobo
- Pros: Fast and stable board. Plenty sata and usb connectors. Extra cool SB. Easy set up. Sinks on VRMs. OC software work well.
- Cons: Slow coming out of sleep. (about 20 secs)
- Other Thoughts: After reading other reviews, I flashed to F-4 before I did anything. I used win 7 drivers for audio and lan. No problems to report. Shouda waited for A version.
Perfection
- Pros: The perfect motherboard for building a great gaming platform. Enough slots for expansion and memory. Multiple safety measures in place to make BIOS flashing simple and easy. Very sturdy, the PCB is very tough! When it says 2oz copper, it actually means it, this board doesn't bend at all, even when pushing in memory and coolers. Boots quick, with plenty of options in the BIOS to setup things like you like. Boots from any medium you can think of, with a boot selection menu that works with all of them. No trouble at all. Comes with an actual manual, complete with technical specs and diagrams, not just "how to setup" nonsense.
- Cons: Ships with a lame version F2 BIOS that guffs up Win7 install and hangs on the performance evaluation. Easy and safe to flash up to version F4 using @BIOS from within Windows, took less than a minute and all was well. Memory slots are kind of close to the CPU socket, so if you use a huge cooler you might have trouble fitting it in there. Included CD has drivers that are way out of date. Make sure you put your memory in the white slots if you only have one pair. Read the manual.
- Other Thoughts: The cool-blue color scheme is nice, and goes well with subtle blue LEDs.
Total Junk.
- Pros: The box is colorful and shiny. Gigabyte really knows how to present and market their products. I was suckered in to the hype.
- Cons: Wow, where to begin. Ok, I purchased this as a combo with an Intel I7 860 CPU. First, after plugging in my USB keyboard and mouse, I quickly found out that the BIOS revision shipped with the motherboard had bugs with USB keyboard support. I checked the support website and found the BIOS was 3 revisions out. After flashing the BIOS, the system boots and works, but there are issues that have popped up that have been very annoying:
- The system freezes and audio stutters once in a while, then continues like nothing ever happened. - The audio connection wizard pops up for no reason and prompts you to verify that you plugged/unplugged an audio device when you did neither. - Freezes, black/grey screen crashes with ATI video cards (used ATI 5850). - Network speed is inconsistent and pauses/freezes during transfers. - SLOW! My older Q6600 based system was faster/snappier. - BIOS crashed several times and was 'recovered' back to the old version, which means I had to re-flash the BIOS!
- Other Thoughts: The last Gigabyte motherboard I purchased turned out to have nothing but problems. BIOS problems, random crashes, slow response - all of which apply to this motherboard, meaning not much has changed with Gigabyte.
Also, the USB port has problems with disconnecting to my Sony MP3 player. Every other system I own has no problems with USB drives and MP3 players except this Gigabyte motherboard.
Overall, I took a chance with Gigabyte and I learned once again why I was avoiding them all this time.
