5 out of 5 eggsGreat board for the price

Pros: Too many to mention, but I'll list a few.

This board is actually pretty decent for overclocking. I overclocked my AMD 965 to a stable 4.2 ghz with minor tweaks are water cooling. The system ran stable with prime 95 as well as other benchmarking software for extended periods of time and never got above 38C. I had no issues with BIOS, stock voltages, etc. Additionally, the north bridge regardless of what I'm doing is always cool to the touch.

Cons: As others have stated, if you have a large graphics card, your SATA will be covered. I'd prefer the sata ports to be horizontal on the board so you still have access to them. I bought the board knowing this, so I can't take an egg off of it.

Other Thoughts: Excellent board, would recommend to anyone if they want to do an introduction to overclocking, it's cheap and runs well.

5 out of 5 eggsGA-785GMT-USB3

Pros: Works great once RMA'ing and updating the BIOS, more into on that in the Con's section....

Installed with an AMD 6core proc, 8GB of RAM, Seagate's new hybrid XT series HDD. System seems stable thus far with Win7 64bit.

Cons: It's very possible that NewEgg will send you a board with an F1 version BIOS, where the current version is F3. F2 or higher is needed for a 6core AMD processor.

You cant RMA it to NewEgg, ensuring getting a current firmware. Their online chat folks are pretty ignorant of this. You have no choice but to have a spare older AMD proc, or RMA it to Gigabyte in Los Angeles CA. I will say Gigabyte was fantastic in this regard compared to NewEgg! They upgraded and returned to me the updated MB in about a week.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Be Aware !!!

Pros: lots of options to select from

Cons: After 2 full days of stress and labor ... I decided to call GIGABYTE ... It seems I made a mistake in buying the 6 Core AMD chip thinking that I could just update the BIOS ... Ooops .... Not so much ... Thanks to GIGABYTE :) ... The BIOS won't Recognize the 6 Core processor & won't allow you to Flash it with the appropriate version ... So I am trapped in the cross-hairs of circumstance ... to flash the board I need to buy another CPU? Wow ... Just another inconvenience of ill placed hopes ... I will now attempt to flash the BIOS using a lower slower CPU which

I WILL HAVE TO BUY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which just adds to the frustration of the board not being an easy build.

4 out of 5 eggsNice MB

Pros: Overall a reat board, Easy to install, DDR3 and USB3 are nice features. Dual Bios is a great one, which will save you from killing your boards when you flash them. Runs Cool. Nice and tweakable, great timing responses from memory

Cons: SATA ports are kinda close to the PCIe x16 slot, but the shorter cards are fine, the 5770 fits like a charm

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: Well laid out, tons of features and controls, installed easy

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I have had this board for approximately 3 months now. i haven't had any problems with it. installation was a breeze the bios recognized the three hard drives and ram i have connected to it. Also, had a dvd drive go bad on me, it was an older ide model, i replaced it with a sata model and the bios recognized it right away. I was able to get back to work with little fuss from the board. I have worked with several other brands in the past, but i always come back to Gigabyte because their boards are still working 5+ years down the road.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat but hot motherboard

Pros: Using the AMD 785G chipset means Windows 7 32 and 64 bit versions install perfectly, Win 7 automatically has the correct AHCI driver after I set up RAID 1 on two 1TB WD "black" drives. Then I ran the driver DVD setup to install the USB 3.0 and updated drivers. On a 1090T cpu Win 7 64-bit installs in 15 minutes. So far a 3.6GHz overclock with a 4.0GHz Core performance boost works well with a Zalman CNPS9500A cooler (runs just over 2400 rpm at 100% test load on all cores and 1700 rpm idle). Ran AMD Overdrive for 1 hour test on all cores (will run longer burn-in tests and report back) with only 1 problem but easily fixed it (see cons). Plus I didn't need to over-volt the the 1090T or Northbridge, just up the Core Clock Ratio to 18 and Core Boost Ratio to 20 and was good to go. Has NEC chip for future fast USB 3.0 devices. Love that the bios shows real MHz speeds for all multipliers and all voltages so you know exactly what the values are (all bios' should be this informative).

Cons: Had to flash the bios to F3 with a different cpu (see previous warning about this). The Northbridge runs very hot (but most 785G motherboards with passive coolers do) so make sure you have very good airflow. I'm running 4GB (2x2GB unganged 8-8-8-24 at 1.65v) of Corsair XMS3 1600 DDR3 and in bank 1 the AMD Overdrive tests pass but the IntelBurnTest v2.3 and the LinX 0.6.4 tests both failed. Moved memory to bank 2 and both of the Linx tests pass so always use bank 2 for your memory.
No SATA 6.0 speed but I don't need that for now.

Other Thoughts: Configuration
AMD 1090T (3.6GHz with 4.0Ghz Core Boost)
Zalman CNPS9500A LED cpu cooler
4GB (2 x 2) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 - CMX4GX3M2A1600C8 ram
2 1TB WD Caviar Black WD1002FAEX drives (RAID 1)
LG 22x DVD multidrive
560W 80 Plus Bronze PS.
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS
On board ATI HD 4200 video (256 meg. used)
Rosewill Blackbone ATX Mid Tower Case #N82E16811147023
(120mm side panel fan added for extra cooling)

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit perfomance
Processor = 7.6 (AMD 1090T at 3.6GHz base, 4.0GHz boost)
Memory = 5.9 (4GB Corsair 1600 DDR3 8-8-8-21-41 T1)
Graphics Aero = 4.6 (built in Radeon HD 4200)
Graphics gaming = 5.4
hard disk = 5.9 (WD 1TB Caviar Black WD1002FAEX)

Zalman radial cooler blows air over the Northbridge and power MOSFETs for better cooling than stock cooler. If you plan to oc then you must have extra fans to cool the Northbridge and power regulators otherwise the life of this motherboard will be reduced.

3 out of 5 eggsDo not use this for an HTPC

Pros: I love this MB as my HTPC connected to my 61" DLP via HDMI.

Cons: My system began freezing once or twice daily. Gigabyte tech support says that this MB requires a 450 watt minimum power supply. You will need a full size case. I am using case hec Black 0.7mm Thickness SECC 7K09 Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case with 270W FLEX Power Supply Item #: N82E16811121027.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you go to the Gigabyte web site to find the approved CPU and memory vendors for this MB.

5 out of 5 eggsImportant BIOS WARNING !!!

Pros: Will provide full review later. Downloaded the F3 BIOS on another computer to a flash drive, plugged it into the GA-785GMT-USB3 motherboard, went into the bios flash utility, flashed the bios straight from my flash drive, reset to confirm I had a working F3 bios, swapped the 1090T back in, booted into the BIOS to configure everything, all very simple and easy. No floppy drive needed.

Cons: Came with an F1 BIOS. YOU MUST HAVE one of the processors listed on Gigabyte's cpu compatibility page to start with so you can get into the BIOS and then F8 into the Flash function to upgrade the BIOS to F3 (or at least F2) to get the 1090T to reset into the bios and go from there. On the F1 bios the 1090T would reset the video showing the Gigabyte splash screen and then hang so you can't DEL into the bios to flash it.

Other Thoughts: Bought this with a 1090T 6 core Phenom II. The need for a cpu comptible with the BIOS version you have is not specifically a Gigabyte problem, all companies have this issue as new cpus come out so no eggs taken off. I had a Phenom II 545 in another motherboard so it was simple for me to get the bios flashed to the F3 revision but if you don't have an extra cpu available you are up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Once I had the F3 bios I put the 1090T back in and everything else worked perfectly and Windows 7 runs super fast as it should with a 6 core cpu.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes everything I've asked it to do

Pros: Great board for the price. Supports new features, which is always a plus. Can run a 1055t without problems, and can overclock.

Cons: If you are wanting to run linux on this board I suggest you think again. The onboard NIC (8111/8169) has horrid linux support. Do a google of linux and 8169/8169 problems and you will get the idea. I can only get about 5-7 MB/s on a gigabit connection no matter which kernel I use, even if I compile my own modules.

Other Thoughts: If you overclock with the new hexacores on this board, beware. I tried OC'ing the 1055t for a while. I left the default voltage and raised the bus till I was at about 3.4 GHz (1600 MHz RAM). I fired up prime95 for a while and something smelled hot! If you can't see it in the pictures, there are no heat sinks on the vrm's or the chokes. I touched a choke and a vrm and they were HOT. Hot enough to burn. I'm not sure of the exact temp but I know that can't be good on the mobo. I turned the clock back down to 2.8 and under volted to 1.35V and now they are only slightly warm to the touch.

I'm sure it can handle OC'ing a dual core, even the new athlons and quad phenoms. But, I think asking this board to OC a 1055t is too large a task.
