3 out of 5 eggsSpend a little more money on something else

Pros: Lasted 3 years with no problems, BIOS was very simple and clean to use when overclocking my processor. Good amount of USB and SATA ports.

Cons: Not much room for anything, and not many expansion slots. If you're wanting to crossfire any pci-e card, this motherboard isn't capable of doing so.

Other Thoughts: I've had this motherboard since 2011 and today I was transporting my tower to a friends house and when I set everything up I got a black screen, and 4 beeps, then a series of other beeps at random. I have followed all the troubleshooting steps in the manual as far as the beep codes go and no luck :/ RIP GIGABYTE GA-880GM-USB3

Unless Gigabyte wants to send me another one, which would be amazing. I don't have the money to spend on another one seeing as how I am a broke college student and this is my only PC with everything on it.

5 out of 5 eggsI like it!

Pros: Great board. Works perfectly. Flashed the newest BIOS before the first boot and BIOS set up was a breeze. The BIOS even recognized my memory at the advertized speeds with no fuss, no muss. Drivers all installed flawlessly. Not the first hick-up after a few months.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: With Gigabyte's Dual Bios and extra copper in the boards, Gigabyte has the best, easiest and safest BIOS update I have ever seen. Installs the first time everytime from a USB flash drive. Plus I got the latest drivers from the Gigabyte web site. Didn't use the driver disk at all. My friend that I built the comp for is a happey camper!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic M/B W/ Tons Of Features

Pros: I have yet to find anything at all to justify anything less than 5 eggs. It has every connection there is, onboard video is good for basic desktop apps and to serve as a home media pc and plays blu rays with perfection with Power DVD Suite.

Cons: None as of yet.

Other Thoughts: I'm a huge fan of Gigabyte and have purchased over 100 of their motherboards over the years for my own personal use and have built well over 2000 pcs with them accounting for app. 90% of all of those. Out of those, I may have had to RMA maybe 30.

2 out of 5 eggsRiddled with driver errors

Pros: Has usb3, bios is easy to tweak, AHCI is easy to setup, looks cool lol.

Cons: I have tried over 13 drivers to get the sound to work.... Nothing. Each version of Realtek audio HD, audio manager, codecs, base drivers and nothing works. It will not recognize speakers or headphones in the front or rear jacks. You think the driver on the cd that came with it would work... yeah no. Never from gigabyte at least. I have never had this problem with ASUS or any other MOBOs I've had. Never had this problem even on cheap bottom barrel MOBOs.

Lastly gigabyte has terrible customer support, and I mean BAD!

Other Thoughts: Better driver compatibility and customer support.

4 out of 5 eggsAll about the Hardware Rev Level

Pros: Fast board. Gigabyte quality. I originally ordered an ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX AM3+ AMD 760G SATA from Newegg for this build. It booted fine and ran for 10 minutes before it smoked. It was rated for my 6200 CPU.

It has 4 memory slots with up to 32 Gig supported. I put 2 8 Gig Gskill F3 1600C9D-GXM (total 16 Gig) in slots 3 and 4 which allowed me to put a Cooler Master GeminII M4 CPU cooler in which blocked access to memory slot 1 on the board. The system boots and runs very fast.

Previous posts about this board needing a 500 watt power supply are wrong. I built this on a test bench with a 300 watt power supply and it worked fine. It's only when I had to put a good Nvidia video card in that a big power supply was needed.

Cons: Not Sata 3, no internal USB 3 MB connectors. See Other Thoughts about the hardware rev level problems.

The on-board AMD 4250 GPU might be OK for home theater applications but its Open GL capabilities are terrible. I can't even get it to run Angry Birds (an Open GL game), at least not on Win 8 Final Preview 64.

Also, my on-board 4250 GPU is listed as an Engineering Sample as reported by several hardware scanning utilities, even AMD's own Hardware Monitoring software (available free for download). It reports this GPU as being manufactured in 2010.

Other Thoughts: There have been a lot of complaints about this board not being able to handle the high end 6 and 8 core AMD FX Zambezi CPU's. Those are (currently) the FX series 6100, 6200, 8120 and 8150. This is true if you get a board with hardware level at Ver 1 or 1.1. Nothing will fix this. If you receive a Ver 3.1 board with a bios of at least FE, you can run those processors. I have a FX 6200 running on mine no problems. When you order a board you don't know what hardware level you will receive. If you get sent old stock you have to return it and try again. The Rev level is on the sticker on the side of the motherboard box. Unfortunately, the bios level is not listed anywhere. Some people actually have to put a down level CPU in to get the board to boot, then flash the bios to higher levels, then remove the CPU and then put the high end Zambezi in.

I was fortunate. I ordered the board in Sept 2012 from Newegg and got both a rev 3.1 and FE bios. Lucky me.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome motherboard.

Pros: Easy to work with. Great operator's manual is provided. You get excellent workmanship with this board. Booted right up with no problems at all.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Recommend it to anyone wanting 8-cores, 16 gigs of memory and a decent graphics card.

5 out of 5 eggsPerforms well, small footprint

Pros: I was looking specifically for a board that would fit in an old eMachines case I had laying around, so it had to be fairly small. The footprint of this board is such that you can put it into any microtower.
After a couple of months, I can say that this board is workin fine with Windows 8 release preview (see other thoughts).

Cons: Very very minor con: Depending on your case's layout (if you have a particularly deep case), the board is so small that you could have front panel connectors that won't reach the appropriate connectors on the motherboard. You will be left with a gap of empty space between the motherboard and the front of your case and your cables have to be able to cover that distance (for power/front panel audio/usb/etc). It's probably not an issue for most folks.

Other Thoughts: I really like the board's layout in the case. The only thing that is not working is the front panel audio for some reason, and I have not investigated because I am running Windows 8 Release Preview on it, so I expect some things not to work and maybe this is just one of those things. I have not tried any other operating systems.
I am using a case that is about 10 years old, so despite the front panel audio having the same connector, I did not compare the pin-out to the motherboard specs. Maybe I will figure it out at some point if I find it bothers me much.
