4 out of 5 eggsGood board with some flaws

Pros: There are a lot of expansion and memory slots, as well as a ton of SATA ports, making this a nice board for any sort of server. It's also good for a gaming machine, considering all of the things you can put on it.

There's also a very handy numerical readout that will display error codes when something DOES go wrong, so there's no need to interpret a bunch of beeps (although that's still an option if the readout stops working). This makes analyzing problems a quicker and less frustrating experience.

There's a dual LAN on the board. Haven't tried it, but it's an interesting idea at least.

Cons: The "Hybrid Silent Pipe" liquid/air cooling stuff is just about useless for cooling the northbridge. I'm not sure if liquid cooling would have any noticeable effect on northbridge temps, as the base which all of the cooling systems attach to is a solid block of metal with an array of fans in between, sandwiching pockets of air which get heated and radiate heat before you even get to the liquid or air cooling solutions. Interestingly, however, removing everything from the metal bit (like the water cooling attachment) and scraping off the thermal paste will lower your northbridge temp noticeably.

I haven't experimented with removing the Hybrid Silent Pipe system entirely, but I hazard a guess you could get better cooling with another solution (currently it sits at about 65C).

There may be some electromagnetic interference from the board as well, so mic users beware.

Other Thoughts: This is an older board and can't support Intel Sandy Bridge processors, but for what it is it's actually pretty decent.

The manual is well designed, and GIGABYTE's support site is decent, although they lack a few unnecessary drivers that Windows screams about.

Box makes a great carrying case for all sort of little parts.

5 out of 5 eggsstill works

Pros: still work like a charm of coarse I had the mainboard watercooled with aftermarket waterblocks first day. Its been over a year have upgraded the cpu to w3690 its fast. long atx board longer 3dmark vantage score ultra pumped up vantage score and cpu scores just fast with anything. reliable have thrown every different bois combo at it when its to much system just reset to stock bois.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: my board is watercooled with aftermarket waterblocks. and proformance is as fast as the first LN2 scores reported when the board first came out. I have a w3690 this might also be why in the end thanks Newegg.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked for 2 weeks

Pros: When it was working it was fine.

Cons: After two weeks, it just failed. Screen went blank. I turned it off and then back on and nothing. It powers up and that is the extent of it. No beeps, no video, nada. So now I'm back to the drawing board trying to figure out what went wrong. So far I have swapped out the keyboard, mouse, and monitor. No help. Now it looks like the heat sink has to come off to get to the memory and see if reseating it will correct the problem. If not that, then swap out the video card. Oh I wish I bought a different motherboard!

1 out of 5 eggsDead?

Pros: Does not Post, thus no Pros

Cons: The exact same issue unbiased posted: During POST, indicator run through all numbers till FF, - ready to boot up, however there is no video signal from brand new GTX 480 card (which works on a UD5) mounted on the 16XPCIe slot. One long and one short beeps during POST indicate potential problem with the motherboard.

Design is not well thought. PCIE_12 V connector is interfering with Hybrid Silent-Pipe Module

Other Thoughts: I have posted this issue on the Steam forums (nick: Alkpaz) and have sent a message to Gigabyte (alk3). I have tested the mobo on TWO PSUs and still no video, although, I get a FF on the board. I connected the PCI-E_2 molex and still nothing, had two 8 pin power connectors, 1250W and a 1000W PSUs nothing.. the processor is a i7 980x.

I will purchase another board and see if that solves the issue, if not I will just cut my losses and install my 980 in my UD5.

The best case for this mobo is the Coolermaster HAF X, as a FYI.

1 out of 5 eggsNon-standard board size

Pros: None

Cons: This board comes bundled with the Intel i7 950, but the discounted option fails to mention the need for a non-standard case. The XL ATX case size isn't a filter option when searching for a case menu. Seems this information should be disclosed if refunds/returns are not allowed.

Other Thoughts: Non-standard MB form factors are a problem, but especially when they provide no benefit to the user, as in the case of the UD9.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments. Honest and constructive opinions are always welcome. We apologize for your difficulty with your Gigabyte product.

An XL-ATX sized form factor is needed to supply 7x PCIE slots on a motherboard.

Also, Newegg's website (under Details), as well as Gigabyte's website lists the form factor as XL-ATX.

If you have further questions, contact us at with the case number 2010121309 in the subject line. We will provide personalized service and analysis to help solve your issue as soon as possible.

3 out of 5 eggswow too expensive

Pros: many Mosfets which will support extremely high overclock and 4 ways SLI

Cons: too small watercool inlet for the chipset
more expensive than similar feature eVGA X58 Classified 4-Way SLI
more expensive than eVGA Classified SR-2 which support dual core and can run one easily

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte has a brand name in the industry, but has no excuse to price their product too high like this

Buying similar feature board with much lower price is possible through eVGA and ASUS

Not recommend to buy this product. I own a UD7 motherboard, which is easy overclock and the price is about right compare to ASUS rampage II

5 out of 5 eggsFits in Lian Li

Pros: This motherboard fits in the Lian Li- PC-80 Armorsuit.I have the case and motherboard. There is plenty of room left over for even a larger motherboard.

Cons: I have not found any since June.

Other Thoughts: It seems like either people hate this motherboard or love it. I have not had one issue with it so far.My previous motherboard (Asus P6T6 workstation Revolution)was not as good as this is.From the time I saw it available for purchase I knew this was the Motherboard for me.Has all the right features.I paid $699. for mine. Now it is $100 cheaper.Alot of people criticize this board and say it is overpriced and not enough features.I strongly dis agree.Everything has worked for me,posted first try.BIOS was not an adventure.

3 out of 5 eggsoverpriced

Pros: features for this motherboard rule. 4 way sli, usb 3.0 and sata 3 on a single cpu board. The only other way to get this is buying the dual cpu evga sr-2 board.

Cons: 1. Ram- I am using a Corsair set of ddr-3 1600 24gb ram set that I have to use at 1333 to allow the mb to see the full 24gb. I have tried manual settings and XMP settings, the mb sees less than the 24gb.

2. Price- I didn't buy my mb here, I bought it elsewhere at approx. $175 cheaper. Newegg at this time is the only north american seller of this board afaik as the seller I bought from (canadian online retailer) doesn't sell it anymore. Gigabyte, don't be exclusive just for massive profit please.

3. Sound- the onboard sound is supposed to have dolby home theatre features on it (on other retail brand name desktop pc's, this is actually a software feature where you can do creative like cmss-3d effects to it) but I have tried multiple releases of the whql realtek hd audio software and there is no feature shown upon install.

4. pci slot chipset heatsink vs. molex power connector- I asked gigabyte about this and you don't have to be using both molex board connectors for extra power.

Pros: The board has been working with and running my Adobe CS5 Master Suite.

Cons: This is a FOLLOW UP REVIEW to seriously CRITICIZE Gigabyte QC for continuing to list the Lian Li PC-P80 as an "approved case" when they have received photographic evidence of the OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAWS I gave them months ago. These flaws made my build a seriously difficult task and required HACK SAW "improvements" on both the motherboard tray and more importantly, cutting out several PCI slots, to correct the GPU short being caused by a bolted in motherboard tray sheath...

Other Thoughts: Lian Li was also sent photos of these design flaws and has since built the v2120. However, Gigabyte doesn't list this case as "approved" although it may actually work out of the box. I'm not sure. I will continue to look into this matter as I feel it is not being handled appropriately... This is very unfair to buyers who depend on this info being correct.

1 out of 5 eggsSounds great, warranty a waste

Pros: Looks great, performs great, lots of features.

Cons: Most expensive MB I've ever bought. Failed in second month. Comes with 3 year parts and labor warranty. I sent it in, took a month for replacement to come, THAT MB was bad, sent it back, I've now been down for 2 months, still waiting for new MB to come in. I even paid for the warranty exchange (where you pay for a new one, they ship right away before your return makes it to them), still took forever. What's the point of fancy features if it's down for months on end.

Other Thoughts: For such an expensive motherboard, it seems they should to a little more to make someone buying it happy. Faster shipping maybe? The second time I even paid a computer store to check it (I couldn't believe it was bad again), maybe if they paid for that service charge? I've now spent 3500 on a new computer that runs half the time because of this motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments. Honest and constructive opinions are always welcome. We apologize for your difficulty with your Gigabyte product. Please contact us at with the case number 2010113003 in the subject line.

Our normal replacement time for this model is usually 3-4 days. All replacement products are personally tested to factory specifications before being shipping.
