1 out of 5 eggsAt least it looks good

Pros: The motherboard is attractive, and the onboard sound is quite good. The BIOS is easy to navigate and intuitive.

Cons: The voltage control is awful...absolutely the worst of any motherboard I've ever used. The voltage fluctuation is so bad that It is almost impossible to get a stable clock. I'm also uncertain that Gigabyte actually fixed the overheating VRM issues of the Rev 3 boards with this revision (4). After a few weeks, my system has simply begun to shut down and lock up so that even the power and reset buttons no longer function. This is happening anytime I'm running higher load applications.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately the system shutdown issues began less than 24 hours after my eligibility for a return or RMA had ended, otherwise this board would be on it's way back and I'd be picking up something else.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your comments. We apologize for your difficulty with your GIGABYTE product. Please contact us at newegg-support@gigabyteusa.com with the case number 109108 in the e-mail subject line. We will provide personalized service and analysis to help solve your issue ASAP. If the matter is urgent, please send us your contact number, and we will contact you.

1. Check the CPU model on the officially CPU support list on GIGABYTE website to ensure the processor is supported by the motherboard.

2. Check the CPU temperature in the Bios to make sure it's under the CPU specification, normally it should be around 45-50C.

3. Inspect the CPU and/or CPU socket to for bent or broken pins.

4. If the machine is overclocked, undo the overclock to verify whether the lockup or freeze still occurs.

5. Test each memory modules, one at a time to ensure each memory stick can function properly.

6. If there's additional add-on card(s), remove it/them from the board to eliminate hardware compatibility.

7. Check the Bios version to ensure it's the latest Bios. Backup all your data before trying to update the Bios.

8. Check for loose power cable/data cable on the storage devices such as hard disk drives, SSD drives, external USB drive, USB thumb drive from the PC.

9. If you have a spare drive available for testing, disconnect the current drive and perform a new /clean windows installation along with the required drivers to rule out software related possibility.

5 out of 5 eggsLiking It

Pros: No problems installing or building with Windows 8.1. Booted up in less than 15 seconds, though this slows down a touch as you add software like antivirus. Typical Gigabyte, easy to get and install drivers. Embedded sound card was darn good, in fact after installing an SB Audigy it didn't get that much better. With 6 cores I don't bother overclocking, but that looks easy. I'm using a 'hybrid' SATA hard drive.

Cons: None apparent at this time (3 months).

5 out of 5 eggsLooks very nice. Good.

Pros: It looks very nice. Goes well in my case. Love the fact that there is 6 SATA vs my old one that had 3. Fits very well in the screw holes.

Cons: The motherboard was causing my Windows to blue screen. Had to format my PC ( At least I had 2 HDD's ). And also the board is causing me problems with my c920 webcam. Everytime I plug it in it says '' This device could work faster if it's plugged in a USB 2.0 '' Dude, its f**cking plugged in a USB 2.0. I redownloaded the drivers. Didn't work. Giving me a hard time.

Other Thoughts: In overall 9 out 10. I love gigabyte products and would recommend em to anyone.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does what it says on the box. Easy to build with, user-friendly BIOS. Emerged unscathed from a few alarming flexing incidents during the installation of my big cooler. Actually, I bent this thing quite a bit during this build, and it's been none the worse for wear.

Cons: Didn't come with standoffs. I/O shield is very flimsy.

4 out of 5 eggsPleased So Far

Pros: Supports 4 Fans - Hooking Cables to it was a breeze, things clearly marked. - Supports 32GB of Ram - Supports Ram to Speeds of 2000mhz

Cons: Bios was limited on what you can and can't do. Very restrictive on RAM O.C. Claims 2000 O.C., I think It only gave me a option to push for 1866. Voltage for O.C. Ram is preset and makes it difficult to to get a high desired OC. Motherboard does not sync fan control to AMD Overdrive. Nor does it allow AMD to post Speeds or Percentage workload of the system fans. The motherboard drastically displays odd jumps in CPU temps. Motherboard has displayed super low temps with heavy workload with house 50 degrees F, and yet displayed a high temp just idling in the same temp room. My guess is with Sys fan ramped up for heavy load and the colder air forces temp to a range lower then the motherboard is programed to display. But still does not justify why the Motherboard would report such diversity in temp while idling.

Other Thoughts: I was very scared after ordering this Motherboard and doing my home work on it. A lot of people have had issues with it overheating and so on. But after getting it and having the newer revision of it, I have very little issues with it. Just wish bios was less restrictive and system fans could post to AMD Overdrive. Great Motherboard for anything other then the Enthusiast's line of work.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board

Pros: Pretty nice, multiple bios is very handy- nice location of pins.

Cons: Wish there more fan ports.... although it seems to be common within this north-bridge type.

Other Thoughts: Has everything I need plus more... still have extra internal usb 2.0 ports not in use, plus I only use one 2gb video card, so I always have room to expand there.

3 out of 5 eggsCareful about RAID use

Pros: For ordinary desk top use, this is a very capable MB. It is missing any video port which may trouble some people. For me, the problem was that I did not realize (nor did Gigabyte!) that the maximum size RAID drive that this unit can support is 2TB. So If you try to use RAID5 all you can use is three 1TB drives. Larger drives don't work. I have built about six of the 990FXA models and they have proved reliable and stable.

Cons: Limited RAID capability with TB drives.
