108dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio Playback

GIGABYTE motherboards feature higher capability audio solutions with 108dB Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR) playback quality to deliver high-performance, multi-channel HD audio. SNR is a comparison of the amount of signal to the amount of noise - such as hiss - present in the signal (expressed in Decibels). A higher SNR equals a better audio experience. For example, 108dB, is a high audio specification, as this means the audio signal is 108dB higher than the level of the noise.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding price/quality

Pros: Fantastic visually appealing jet black design
Fit all components without issue
Worked without any problems

Cons: No onboard video, but I iknew that when I ordered it
The SATA ports face out rather than up which makes it a bit awkward to plug in the SATA drives.

Other Thoughts: The usual price/quality I expect from GIGABYTE. I've had so many other popular name brand boards S h i t the bed on me even when they are practically brand new. GIGABYTE has continuously delivered outstanding quality at a reasonable price for over 7 years. I will continue to use their products.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Worked first time and has been absolutely stable. That's why I picked it, and that's what I got.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: I'm not overclocking, and the CPU is mild performance wise. So if it wasn't "absolutely stable", I would be screaming.

CPU: AMD FX-6300
2X - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB
ARCTIC Alpine 64 Pro Rev. 2 CPU Cooler

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good but only been alittle over a week

Pros: its a 990fx board. well fxa. it runs my fx8350 cpu great. I can run xfire at full x16 speed not x8 or 4. and my games seem to run 5 times better then with my old 970a-g46 msi mobo. so far i'm loving this board even though it had quit a few bad reviews on it. however, it has alot of very good reviews as well.

Cons: so far the only con i have is with choosing the right memory for this board. I wanted to run 4x4gb at 1866mhz however, with the way the dimm slots are designed there are only a select few memory dimms you can populate each slot with and mostly every review i searched for on this issue had some kind of trouble in running 1866mhz or higher when all 4 dimm slots are populated. I'm not going to knock off an egg for this issue of memory cause 1 of 2 options im going to go with. either i'm going to just run 1600mhz dimms or i'm going to order 2 8gb dimms at 1866 and run them. i'm leaning more towards the 2 8gb dimms @ 1866mhz which is all i need and they will run in dual channel mode.

Other Thoughts: The board is really nice, it has the usb 3.0 header i was looking for for the case i have has the 20 pin cable for the header on the board that my msi board did not have. i was able to install my h100i watercooler without issues with the heatsink on the board. i do wish the memory slots were just a bit lower then they are so i don't have to take out 1 of the fans from the watercooler which would make installing the dimms easier. also cause i'm limited on the height of of any headsinks the memory may have cause the space between the heatsinks from my ram now and the fan is only about 1 1/2mm give or take.

1 out of 5 eggsNo luck out of box

Pros: From what I've read, I like the features the board offers. I like the board layout.

Cons: I've been trying for three days to get this board working. I don't get any video from the board. No splash screen nothing. The monitor doesn't even indicate it's getting a video signal. Tried another known working video card, I've upgraded my PS and tried clearing CMOs and myriad other things to no avail. I've read on other forums that others had this problem. I'll be calling Gigabyte Monday.

Other Thoughts: I'm not real jazzed by their support. It's the weekend so I haven't and didn't expect to hear from them. Nothing in their FAQ addresses the problem I'm having.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks Nice
Performs well
Solid Construction
8 + 2 Phase VRM for 125w CPU support

Cons: NB and SB run INCREDIBLY HOT
location of 8-pin power cable is a bit of a stretch for my PSU cables

Other Thoughts: Bought this because my last mobo had older 4 + 1 Phase VRM and I had read that those boards are not good for the higher wattage CPUs and it was getting very hot. I also had no Front panel USB 3.0 headers on my old board.

This board gets hot as well, in fact it's too hot to even touch the NB or SB heatsinks while it's even on a very minimal load.

Not really an issue worth docking more than 1 egg for, otherwise this is an excellent board with plenty of USB ports and other nice features for protection.

1 out of 5 eggsRevised Comments Gigabyte GA990FXAUD3

Pros: None

Cons: Motherboard developed a bios flicker for lack of a better word. Problems from the start. After working with it for some time to try to isolate it, talking to GIgabyte they had me up grade bios chip. Problem was not resolved. Changes to the bios that were saved changed back to former numbers. Board finally got stuck in a loop of Bios open, close, restart, blow off, Bios open again.

Other Thoughts: RMA was very smooth with NewEgg since I was in the first 30 days. If you get a board that gets stuck in a loop call Gigabyte first for advice. If that does not work its the Bios Chip. My son gave me a old board that would run the AMD 9000 series AMD chip and all my gear fine. It was a Extream9 by AsRock. Rock solid since I put it in. AMD FX9370 220watt CPU and 32gb of ram. Nvida new EVGA GTX 760 with a RM750 Corsair Power Supply, Kingston SSD's. NOT over clocked. Win score 2@7.8 all the rest @ 7.9. 4.4onCPU and 18666 on ram. Stable and Fast (no heat problems with air cooling only (custom CPU Fan). All NewEgg Parts. Happy with final system but not this Motherboard......Son said no OC on this AsRock Extream9 board; with out water cooling and he was right.........Happy, Happy, Happy = as they say on the Duck Commander Show!

3 out of 5 eggsGood but NO BIOS

Pros: Its a Mother Board.
Color is nice.
Windows boots and games run just fine.

Other Gigabyte MoBos work perfect in the past.

Cons: The BIOS wont load! (Cursor appears for quarter of a second then black screen, NOTE: Windows DOES load and work)
Cant get into the BIOS or any POST utilities. Tried a slew of troubleshooting but to no luck.

Gigabtye esupport is why I want give it 1-Egg instead of 3.

Other Thoughts: Always like Gigabyte products and this is my first bad experience with them but the esuppport has somethings to be desired.

Its a new system as follows:
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev.4
AMD FX-8350 Black Edition @4Ghz
CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i CPU Cooler
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB @1866
SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 290
CORSAIR 850W PSU
2 x SSDs / 2 x HDDs / 1 x BD Player
The System runs fast and cool just cant get into the BIOS.

Gigabytes 2nd answer after telling them all I have tried...
"We have tested this board in our lab without any issue accessing the bios. If you are able to verified all hardware to be good on your end and they all been swapped out, please submit for warranty request below"

5 out of 5 eggsHmm...

Pros: Got this back in Feb. All seems well I run it with lots of different things on different days - No issue at all seems like I got a revision 4 board. No heat issues. Nice darker color for the PCB and heat sinks - Goes well with my black case!

Cons: It seems odd but sometimes the board clocks the RAM to 1333mhz and other OS installs the RAM is at 1866.

Other Thoughts: AMD FX 8350 at 4GHZ water cooled with Cooler Master Seidon 120V

3 out of 5 eggscould be better, but no problems

Pros: It works, and haven't had any issues, or just barely-issues.

It looks pretty cool.

I have had no size or fitting issues. Slots are well-placed.

Cons: Gets hot, the bridge-heatsinks will burn you. Literally, if you hold your finger on them, it burns, and will probably blister if kept there. Maybe this is common, but definitely not in my experience.

BIOS is not very flashy or impressive. Missing some options I would like, like Eco-Mode, and has some unintuitive options... such as, if you want to change clock settings you have to change another setting first, but it doesn't make any attempt to communicate this to you. I was having heating issues, until I recently upgraded my cooling. To combat this I attempted to downclock the system, but it actually did not run very stable downclocked, so that's annoying.

I picked this guy over some others because it got good reviews on its onboard sound, and had an optical out port I could hook to my home theater system. I have a very old PCI, SoundBlaster X-Fi OEM sound card I bought for 20$ many years ago. It works well but can be cantankerous having to switch modes between gaming and movies etc. Plus, it's not really supported by creative any more, so I was looking for a nice fallback option.

Unfortunately, I found the onboard sound both lacking in quality and features and the configuration equally cantankerous. To the point that even my ancient X-fi, sounds and functions better, with better features. (at least for optical audio streams)
