GIGABYTE GA-Z68P-DS3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard

  • Intel Z68

The GA-Z68P-DS3 motherboard is based on the Intel Z68 Express Chipset and supports the new 2nd generation Intel Core processors. Delivering the very best that Intel 6 series chipsets have to offer, including a significant performance boost with Intel Smart Response Technology, the first ever mSATA drive connectors on a standard desktop PC motherboard, and GIGABYTE's proprietary Touch BIOS technology, GIGABYTE Z68 series motherboards put users in the driver seat, allowing them to take total control over how their system operates and performs to best match their individual computing needs.

  • newegg Onboard mSATA connector and Smart Response Technology GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards are equipped with the much anticipated Intel Smart Response Technology, allowing users to experience system performance similar to SSD-only systems. Intel Smart Response technology works by using intelligent block-based caching of frequently used applications to improve system performance and responsiveness. In fact, GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards with Intel Smart Response Technology are able to outperform hybrid drive systems by more than 2X (PC Mark Vantage HDD test) and HDD-only systems by as much as 4X (PC Mark Vantage HDD test) and deliver a 60% performance improvement over HDD-only systems in PC Mark Vantage Suite.
  • newegg GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response The GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response utility is a convenient application that allows users to quickly and easily configure their system for Intel Smart Response technology. In the past, enabling Intel Smart Response technology meant users needed to enter BIOS in order to configure their system for RAID mode, which then required a complete reinstall of the operating system. Once that processes was completed, users then needed to install the Intel Rapid Storage Utility as well as configure Intel's Smart Response Technology. GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response does all of this automatically, without users having to perform a complicated install process. This allows them to quickly and effortless enjoy a significant boost in system performance.
  • newegg GIGABYTE Touch BIOS Navigating through the BIOS to change system settings can a daunting task for users not familiar with control "F" functions and mouse-less navigation. While some EFI BIOS try to address this with a mouse friendly environment, many implementations still lack a certain ease-of-use necessary for most people. With GIGABYTE Touch BIOS, GIGABYTE engineers have completely re-imagined how users interact with their BIOS, allowing for a more intuitive user experience. In fact, with a touch screen monitor, GIGABYTE Touch BIOS is as easy to use as most apps on you iPhone.
  • newegg Switchable Graphics with LucidLogix Virtu GPU Virtualization GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards are enabled with LucidLogix Virtu GPU Virtualization technology which allows users to dynamically switch between their built-in graphics and their high-end, 3D discrete graphics cards. This is ideal for gamers who require high-resolution gaming and still want to enjoy the built-in media features of 2nd generation Intel Core processors. In so doing, switchable graphics helps to dramatically reduce PC graphics power consumption.
  • newegg SATA III and 3x USB Power Boost GIGABYTE motherboards are High-Speed SATA Revision 3.0 compatible, delivering superfast 6Gbps link speeds for twice the data transfer rates of SATA Revision 2.0 (3 Gbps). Capable of regulating output over full voltage range and featuring 3x USB power boost, this motherboard also delivers greater compatibility and extra power for USB devices.
  • newegg On/Off Charge Technology GIGABYTE On/Off Charge technology allows you to charge your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch regardless of whether your PC is on, in standby mode or even off. A derivative of GIGABYTE's highly acclaimed 3x USB Power feature, On/Off Charge enables devices to draw more current from GIGABYTE motherboard USB ports than standard USB ports allow, so that charging from your PC can be as fast as with a charger.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Great board, has everything I need which is why I chose it. It was a breeze for installation and installing drivers. Haven't overclocked yet but it's in the BIOS and ready to go if I ever decide to. I am using it as a hackintosh (Mac on PC) and have Mac OS X Lion and Windows 7 installed perfectly.

Cons: No USB 3.0, but that's because I wanted a board without it.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect motherboard.

Pros: On the cheap side but make no mistake, this board is good.
Has PLENTY of plugs and ETC. for all that stuff, USB, SATA, you name it.
Cheaper board but very reliable with good overclocking ability.

Cons: I had to pay for it... Thats a con... I think.

Other Thoughts: Great board, has plenty of stuff and works well, I am very confident with this board and I believe it can be overclocked reasonably.
Its just a shame its deactivated, I was thinking of buying another one for a friend... BUT I STILL LOVE IT!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Booted up first try, no problems. Recognized all RAM at right speed, etc.

Cons: No IDE plug. I know that's becoming the standard, and I knew it before I bought the motherboard, but it's still a hassle for those of us who have older drives.

5 out of 5 eggsNice board

Pros: Haven't had any problems with it. I feel much better knowing I have a quality mobo instead of the cheap ones I used to buy. Overclocked my i5-2500k easily and I have plenty of room for upgrades in the future.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsBoard Shorted

Pros: Affordable i5 2500k overclock supporting board.

Cons: Like a few others have mentioned in this review section, I have issues with the board shorting when to many mounting screws were used. I have to cut down the mounting screws from 6 to 3 in order to get the system to power up at all. I spent 3 hours troubleshooting other issues, trying different PSUs, ect, just to come here and read that other people had this issue.

A headache for sure, but its the actual functionality of the board in the end that matters, and right now it seems to be okay (Crossing fingers). I've only had it running for a few hours now, but I suspect no further issues.

Other Thoughts: Knocked off a couple of eggs just because of the shorting issue, and now I have to have the constant worry on my mind of the board not being "completely" secured.

4 out of 5 eggsZ68 MB Review

Pros: Gigabyte brand. Blazing fast. x2 6GB/s sata, atx. Houses a full size video card without blocking connections. Windows 7 friendly. O/C friendly.

Cons: Well this is the first Gigabyte that was a pain to get started. As always do not use the CD but go to website. The HDMI graphics used with the CPU would crash to BSOD with windows 7 and was unrecoverable when the driver was installed via CD or website. After many frustrating hours of trying to find a way to resolve the issue I decided why use my time in this manner since I am using a discrete graphics card. I just disabled the on-board video and everything was stable.

Other Thoughts: They list the board as not having an onboard video but if your Monitor is HDMI you can plug it in and have video. I was unsuccessful at getting mine to work post installing the driver so since I did not care to really try hard I just disabled it.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat after sorting screw issue

Pros: Case: Three Hundred

This particular case caused me shorting issues, and it was only after reading another review on here for the fix.

Fix: Use 3 screws instead of the 6.

Cons: Sata2 placement and space for crossfire limited. If you have the Graphics card installed on the lower PCI you will need to hook up the Sata cables first.
