5 out of 5 eggsGreat board and totally worth the upgrade!

Pros: I honestly like how Gigabyte has gone with the times and have upgraded to a Three Dimensional BIOS the interface looks awesome and is meant to impress. I can click parts of the board that I want to change and modify. Not only that the DRAM Controller allows for precise tuning and CPU Voltage control which makes it even more efficient.

Cons: Features don’t come cheap. The i7-3930K CPU is constantly out of stock.

Other Thoughts: Even though the features don’t come cheap you get what you pay for and I honestly like working with the Gigabyte Smart 6 and EasyTune 6 Software that is included as it makes customizations easier.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk Part 2

Pros: This is just to Comment back to the Gigabyte person. And I will give you one pro. The mouse ability in the bios is nice. Just like my Asus Rampage 4 Extreme. I would leave my E-mail and stuff here but I'm sure newEgg would not want that listed. So ask them for my Phone Number or E-mail be happy to talk to you about the problems here.

Cons: Now just to add to that Last feedback I left. and to answer the Gigabyte person. I appreciate your being concerned. But like I said that first board was totally shorted. NO WAY anyone with half a brain checked that board and they don't short in shipping. I have built 100's of computers. 100's and NewEgg knows what I spend. I have never in my life had a shorted board. Yet alone one that totally shut down the power supply.

Then to boot the second board comes in and it has no OC functions and it would not even start without the OS disc in the DVD drive. I reformatted 3 times. All with the same result. I have a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 board that I replaced because it also had problems after 9 months of service. It will not turn on unless you mess with the on/off button. I thought it was my case on/off button but not even the Button on the mother board will turn it on unless you hit it over and over again. if you get lucky it will turn on. That board also bought here.

Other Thoughts: Other thoughts I wanted to state that NewEgg helped in returning this board for the full purchase price. And although I'm out all of my shipping cost back and forth I will at least get some of my money back. The Gigabyte Person I mentioned the 1366 Socket mother board because this is a pattern here I sense with you guys. your using junk parts. Marvell controllers are subpar. The GA-X58A-UD5 board is a sexy looking board. But out of two boards I had 1 that will barely turn on. It sits on my workbench as a reminder to me why I will not use your boards any more. I can't make money if I am constantly having to repair and replace your boards. Just look at the last feedbacks here. Nothing good to say and you guys as a company better fix the problems before your all in the unemployment line. You should fix my GA-X58A-UD5 board for free. EVGA will fix a board 10 years old Lifetime warranty. Why buy from Gigabyte? I mean you tell me. Be happy to talk to you about it. Ask NewEgg for my Info

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK!!!!

Pros: ZERO!

Cons: First board came in and was totally shorted. My Power Supply kept kicking off. Figured the short had to be on the 5 V or 3.3 Volt Regulators Due to the fans coming on for like 1 sec. Lucky the power supply sensed the junky board and shut off. Second board came in after two weeks and this one worked but if there is no OS disc in board totally hangs up on start up. If you have a Start up disc in it will boot up. No OS disc in board will hang for 10 minutes before starting up. Just a Curser flashing.

Next new Bios update totally takes away OC due to design flaw of board which smokes the board (first board must have over clocked itself because it was a total fail right out of the box. Like to know who bench tested that one. Then to boot Old New Egg charges me twice to send boards back and a 48.75 Restocking fee. So nice of you NewEgg to charge me he who buys tons of items from you a restocking fee. Do me a favor and restock it under garbage. You should pay me 48.75 for my headac

Other Thoughts: Never buy this board. Junk Junk Junk! It don't even look good. WiFi/Blue Tooth Card Generic. I have bought many Gigabyte mother boards but I promise ya this will be my last one I ever buy. Such a low grade poorly thought out Poorly designed board. Quality at Gigabyte really hit rock bottom. WIth Asus with the R4E out and EVGA putting out High Quality MB. Gigabyte is slipping way down the list to subpar Generic Company status. Heck I would buy a Bio-Star before I would ever buy Gigglebyte again. TOTAL FAIL! Your staff and Engineers need all fired and you need to clean house.

1 out of 5 eggsreturned

Pros: shipped

Cons: returned

Other Thoughts: Way to many problems . Newegg was great with accepting the return so far. I want to love gigabyte because I owned a mobo made by them in the past. unfortunatly it looks like their x79 series is going to be trouble. I read yesterday that gigabyte will honor all exchanges with " no questions asked" due to these faulty motherboards.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor components covered up with Bios updates

Pros: - Nice color scheme

Cons: - Gigabyte realized they had a design flaw when this board was released. This flaw was causing x79 Gigabyte motherboards to burn up literally under low-stress overclocking attempts. In order to fix this problem they created a new bios (V7) which essentially disabled overclocking on early release boards. Vendors were told to flash all of their existing flawed stock Gigabyte motherboards up to bios V7. If you are one of the unlucky ones who get's one of these early boards you will not be able to overclock and are at risk of having your motherboard burn up. I have returned this motherboard and gone with Asus. I was a fan of Gigabyte on x58. However, this latest fiasco has turned me off big time. Do not be fooled by the "Gigabyte takes overclocking record with bio V7" hype on the internet. Dig a little deeper on the forums and you will see that many people are experiencing isues with this board. Check out Extremesytems forums Gigabyte thread to see what I mean.

Other Thoughts: - Gigabyte has long been a respected motherboard maker. Unfortunately they dropped the ball with the initial release of these x79 boards. Buyer beware.

1 out of 5 eggsCrippled by lack of features

Pros: Latest and "greatest" Intel chipset.

Cons: What is Intel thinking? Still only two native 6Gb SATA ports, which are not made up for by the low-performing Marvell substitutes, since you can't do RAID across the controllers. Still only 8 PCI-e lanes beyond the dedicated graphics bus, so even with the latest and "greatest" Intel chipset, you can't do 16x16 SLI.

I'm very disappointed.

3 out of 5 eggsSome issues

Pros: The feature set on the board is fantastic. It's everything cutting edge you could want with the wifi cards and blue tooth. Amazing!

Cons: The board has bios issues. You will need to flash the bios if your board is an early version due to the networking issue. I have a 25M connection but was only getting 3M to 5M speeds due to the bios. I flashed to the F8 1/12/12 version using @bios which fixed the networking problem, but doing so made so I could no longer boot from a USB DVD Drive. It stopped recognizing USB devices in the bios.

Other Thoughts: I had a lot of problems with this build some of it my own fault and some things due to the board. I consider myself of average tech level. I've built about 15 computers over the course of 8 years and I had trouble overclocking the memory to 2133. The bios update was supposed to fix that but didn't so my memory is currently running at 1600

Also important to note 64bit Win7 home premium will only make use of 16G of Ram MAX!! You have to upgrade to 64bit Win 7 Pro if you want to utilize more.

My build:
Intel Sandy Bridge -E i7 3930
XFX HD 6970
Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5
G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (8 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great board. 12 SATA. Lot better board than MSI 65(8D) board which I still can't get to work with more than 2 sticks of memory. Can change bios thru windows. Should of brought this board first but wasn't out yet.

Cons: Nothing

5 out of 5 eggsMy New Speedy Comp

Pros: What else is there to say, this is the newest Sandy Bridge-E. I’ve been waiting for this to come out since I did not want to buy something that was going to be outdated. I enjoy having the best and the greatest, so having the fact that this board supports quad channel, being one of the only one’s of Gigabyte’s that does this, is one of the main reasons why I purchased it. A big additional plus about this board, I must say is the included Bluetooth and WiFi PCI card. This is actually a difficult setup to find online anywhere else, as I’ve tried. Most of all however is the speed (after overclock) and the ease of modifying the bios. Gigabyte has totally outdone themselves as their bios now has a graphical user interface (GUI) so you can select and change the settings you want.

Cons: Quad-channel is pricey.

Other Thoughts: CPU: Obviously the i7-3930K the i7-3960X is pricey…
Ram: G.Skill (4X4GB)
Graphics Card: Sapphire HD 6950
SSD: OCZ 120GB SSD
Thermal Solution: H80 Closed System Liquid Cooling

2 out of 5 eggsBuggy and unstable

Pros: Nice board with good feature set and lots of SATA ports.

Cons: I had an EX58-UD5 and it was a great, feature-rich and stable board, so I went with its successor for X79. Unfortunately this board does not live up to its predecessor. Whether it is BIOS or design, I can't say. I had many issues with unstable power, the board crashing and BSODing. I actually couldn't get a post out of it until a few days in.

Had to RMA the board and replaced it with a different brand and model which is running flawlessly.
