5 out of 5 eggstook a chance and loving it

Pros: Where to start. I was upgrading from a 2600k on an MSI board with gen3 support. I've recently purchased 2 Gigabyte g1 970's and had a EVGA SC gtx 780 I wanted to keep for physx. The only way to get all 40 lanes(16/16/8) via CPU is a hex or octa core as far as I know(there are some mobo's that have onboard chips to help but I wanted to see the CPU take control). It was an incredibly tight fit for the graphics cards. I built this system for gaming so I don't really need the older pci slots on the board. I have many HD's and wanted the extra SATA III ports even if the Marvell controller has been bench tested at being slower than the Intel. I was able to transfer my 16gb memory kit from my old MOBO to keep my costs down as well. Board was a rev 1.1 with f20 bios. I very, very carefully installed all my components and turned on the switch. Windows spent about 5-10 minutes updating drivers and then voila I was up and running. So far I've had no problems. I love all the USB 3 ports and esata ports in the rear as well. The easytune software allowed to perform a gentle OC on my air cooled cpu.

Cons: A couple more SATA III ports would be nice but this board may have the most of any of the ATX 79's. Super tight fit for the 3 graphics cards I had to put a lot of care into making sure none of their cooling fans touched the back of the card under them.

Other Thoughts: HAF 932 Blue
Gigabyte X79 UD3 LGA2011
Hyper 212 EVO cooler
I7 4930k oc'd to a gentle 4.18 stable holding at 42c
16GB 1333mhz crucial xms
2 Gigabyte g1 oc 970's in SLI
1 EVGA super OC GTX 780 dedicated physx
Corsair 1200 ATX
Intel 520 SSD for the OS on SATA III
5 Assorted HD'S on SATA III
2 HD's on SATA II

1 out of 5 eggsWorse than Useless

Pros: + It's specs look good
+ I used to think Gigabyte was a good brand

Cons: - Gigabyte's RMA process is terrible
- Only a single diagnostic feature: beep codes from a PC speaker (not included). Also not included? Any explanation of any of the beep codes in the manual.
- Very few features in general compared with competition

Other Thoughts: I will never, ever, buy anything made by Gigabyte again...

I got this board as part of an entirely new build, and wasn't able to get it to POST. I went through all the normal troubleshooting, and decided it was most likely either the PSU or motherboard. So I RMA'd both. The PSU RMA process wasn't great, but they sent me back brand new PSU which worked fine. The mobo RMA with Gigabyte was tough (their first suggestion was to try another CPU in the board, then closed the ticket), and they returned my original motherboard to me without any explanation other than that it had been "tested".

Assuming that meant I could trust the motherboard, I rebuilt the system, and still got no POST. So I replaced the RAM with DIMMs which worked before and after I tried them, from a friend's computer. I RMA'd the CPU. Still no change, no POST.

Eventually I decided to just buy a different motherboard, from a different manufacturer. I was able to find a board with all the same features, plus a LOT more (power/reset buttons on the board, multiple error LEDs on the motherboard, external CMOS reset button, etc), and with the new motherboard the entire system is running perfectly.

So now I'm left with a useless and broken motherboard which Gigabyte tested and certified, and all the additional needless RMAs and replacements delayed my build by 2 months.

2 out of 5 eggsRecent ones no good

Pros: Lots of features, has been on the market for some time.

Cons: Recently received boards buggy, BSOD all the time for no reason.

Other Thoughts: I've built 12 computers using this motherboard over the last year or two for research-related use. The first 9 computers went together without a problem and have experienced no problems in service.

However, the last three motherboards I've received (between June and September of this year) have all been problematic...all three computers have had serious BSOD problems. We've tried all sorts of remedies, from flashing the BIOS, replacing RAM/HD/PS, totally reinstalling Windows 7 x64 from scratch, and nothing fixes it. The thing will even BSOD during the Windows install process. Run a stress test on the computer, and it could go 36 hours before locking up, or 5 minutes. There's no rhyme nor reason to this.

Replaced the motherboard in one machine with a similar ASUS motherboard, reusing all components (HD, RAM, processor, etc.), and had zero problems with it after that.

I can only assume that something has changed with these motherboards...maybe a bad batch of components or something. I've built at least 60 computers with Gigabyte motherboards over the last 5 years and had zero problems with them until now. Hopefully they'll take these back and exchange them for something else.

1 out of 5 eggsJoke

Pros: Everything when it works.

Cons: Front panel header decides to work when it feels like it.

Other Thoughts: In order to get this board to power on the majority of the time I have to hold down my power button as if doing a hard shutdown and then a ritual of powering on for a second, shutting down, and then powering on fully occurs. This has been an ongoing issue. I've tried different power supplies, cases, etc etc....basically put together entirely new computers with this board being the only component I reuse and the problem persists. I've RMA'd the board twice, but all they do is send the same exact board back claiming it was repaired. What happens when I test it? The same nonsense as always. On for a second, off, on for another second, off again, and finally fully boots up. Oh and not to mention the random power downs no matter what I'm doing.

Avoid this company at all costs, because heaven forbid you actually have a problem and RMA something back all they're going to do is stare at it for a week and send it back to you with the exact same problems.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid LGA2011 Motherboard

Pros: Paired this board with a 4930K and haven't been happier. Everything worked right out of the box. OC'd to 4.1ghz at 1.32v. Board is rock solid (physically), looks amazing and performs very well.

Cons: I don't like that the USB3 header is right beside the 24 pin power. Cable management is important to me and the position of this is not desirable.

5 out of 5 eggsGigabyte GA-X79-UD3

Pros: Totally new build. Almost no issues at all. Bios issues have seem to be resolved with Rev 1.1 with bios F17. Instantly recognized processor, memory, video card, SSD drives Default CPU speed 3.7Ghz with memory clocking in at 2133.
Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3
Corsair RM1000
Intel core i7-4820K
16Gig GSkill Quad Channel DDR3 2133
Sapphire DualX R9 280X
Samsung 840 Pro 256gb SSD
Samsung 840 500gb SSD
Stuffed into an nMediaPC 2800B

Cons: The only issue I have seen at this time is that the HDMI digital audio driver that is installed with the Sapphire DualX Video card disables the on board digital audio driver making the back panel SPDIF digital outs non-functional. It also conflicts with the Dolby Home Theater drivers. For a media PC this is not acceptable.

Other Thoughts: Since this is a media PC the optical SPDIF output is more important than the HDMI driver for the video card. Disabling the AMD High Definition Audio Device in "device manager" and re-installing the onboard Realtec audio drivers solves the problem.

3 out of 5 eggsNo longer overclockes ram, cant upgrade MEI

Pros: Works, affordable, supports quad sli and xfire

Cons: When it arrived, BIOS did not support the 4820k chip i had. I had to borrow a less powerful chip then flash it to the most recent BIOS.

The board used to overclock the ram to 2133 well, but now it does not allow it and if i attempt to do it multiple times, the bios corrupts and has to pre-load it.

The Intel Management Engine Interface drivers do not work and the board continues to show the driver is not installed correctly

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Been running straight for over a month now, without any issues. I've always had good luck with Gigiabye motherboards. No installation or POST issues at all. This board has a very solid feel to it, not flimsy at all. Drivers installed 100% without any issues as well...

Cons: None so far

4 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: This brand continues to impress. I'm a long time fan of ASUS and switched to thsi brand a few years ago when my ASUS was out of stock and needed an immediate replacement.

Never went back to ASUS. Same effectiveness for a lower price.

Cons: I'd kill for two extra USB 3.0 slots and exterior CMOS reset, pegging it down a star for it.
