5 out of 5 eggsDoes it get any better?

Pros: I had a Sniper v2 with my 2600k build. That machine was sold. I was going to build another with the sniper2 board but it is GONE FOREVER?!?!?!?! So naturally I had to go with a x79 system and the Assassin2 board is AMAZING! Rock solid so far. It came with f8 bios updated already which is good! As with my first system everything fired up and booted on first try. The board has all the features a hardcore gamer needs! Bigfoot nic might be hype but I swear after using it and standard nice there is a slight difference plus they have real tech support that HELPS you.. Try contacting broad com or intel about your nic. The Creative Labs sound is the standard in gaming and computing for that matter. As long as Gigabyte is stable for me and keeps making system board with the chip ill never own another AL8xx chip board again.

Cons: Are you kidding?!

Other Thoughts: I like they put all the right stuff and no extra fluff to make a board that is perfect for gaming and everyday computing. All the high end components and quality. This is my second gigabyte board and I am sold on gigabyte for my motherboards, period!
Thank you Gigabyte for making a board of this calibre!

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful layout and look!

Pros: Performance and features is what I primarily look for and I can tell you that this board has it all. But the thing that has caught my eyes more than anything was the the color scheme of the board. I cannot tell you how much I love the fact that GIGABYTE has changed in my eyes, literally. The color scheme matches with every part of my system. Needless to say more, not only does it look good but I was able to tweak it the way I wanted to without any problems.

Cons: EXPENSIVE, EXPENSIVE CPUS. Enough said.

Other Thoughts: As I've said before, the CPU was extremely expensive compared to the systems I usually build. However, it is a system I plan to keep for a while and I thought why not build something that can keep up with most systems years down the line.

1 out of 5 eggsHonest comments .... Ha!

Pros: If you look at the responses from Gigabyte on the last two reviews they both call for honest responses from those reviewers after talking about a gigabyte recall! Ha you wanna talk about Honest???? All you have to do is google Gigabyte X79 recall or gigabyte X79 fire problems and you will see that it is not the reviewers not being honest but gigabyte who is not exactly telling the truth.
I am sorry I love gigabyte but when I saw this I had to respond so that some pour consumer would have the correct information.
I am actually surprised the New Egg allowed Gigabyte to post these responses.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing - Recalled

Pros: Board sports a large number of features.

Cons: The board has been determined by the manufacturer to be defective. (There are videos of it catching on fire on You Tube during a stress test.) Gigabyte annonced an new BIOS for all of their current X79 motherboards [the F7 bios in this case] in order to prevent overload of the PVM circuit. However, the system now fails to run reliably and crashes on a regular basis.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte indicates that you should contact the vendor. NewEgg is unresponsive with repect to returning the item. Rather a significant let down.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your comments. Honest and constructive opinions are always welcome. However, you are misinformed. There is No Recall of this model nor any other Gigabyte X79 based platform motherboard.

If the matter is urgent, please send us your contact number, and we will contact you ASAP.

1 out of 5 eggsSave Yourself a Massive Headache

Pros: Great specs -- love the presentation and assassin concept - 3D/UEFI Bios -- Bigfoot Networks -- Onboard Sound Blaster -- On paper, as someone already said, an incredible board.

Cons: Unfortunately, this board is completely unstable. We first attempted the Intel Rapid Storage RAID1, but we never got past Win7-64 recognizing the Intel RAID interface during install. It would show the driver, but when selected, would say that it did not find the matching hardware. We then tried the Marvell RAID1 option and got Windows installed, but it just kept crashing and doing chkdisk and repairing the files, which would take about 2 hours. After flashing the BIOS, we re-tried the Intel Rapid RAID1 install with no luck still. Again, we got the Marvell RAID1 to re-install, but the same exact problems resurfaced within a couple of days. We finally set the BIOS back to defaults and did a non-RAID install. It lasted for a couple of days and started having the same crashes and chkdisks, This is a quick synopsis of the main problems we faced, but we must have attempted 50 to 60 installs over a 3 week period.

Other Thoughts: I have built my own machines since Win95, and that was in the days when it was a nightmare just to find and install the most basic drivers, but I have never went through a more nightmarish build than this one. Finally broke down and got the Asus P9X79 Pro MB, immediately flashed the bios, and have been running the Intel Rapid RAID1 setup smooth as silk ever since. We talked to Gigabyte and understand that the board has been pulled. It appears that they rushed this one out without the proper testing, which is surprising for Gigabyte. I have always used their boards and have never had a MB issue that a BIOS flash didn't cure. One last thought is to throw major kudos to the Egg for promptly taking care of us since this was a non-refundable item. They could have held hard and true to their policies, but as usual, they are great at looking at extenuating circumstances and doing what's right --- that's why we have used the Egg for many years and will continue to do so for many more.

1 out of 5 eggsThis board has been recalled

Pros: This is an awesome board, with great specs and performance.

Cons: The current boards unfortunately have faulty VRM's, that blow on even modest voltage assisted overclocks. Gigabyte is giving the option to send it back and get a new board when they become available (whenever that is), or to download a new BIOS which will protect the VRM's. This new BIOS will severely limit overclocking abilities.

Other Thoughts: This will be a killer MOBO once Gigabyte gets the VRM mess sorted out.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA!

Pros: Sounds good on paper...

Cons: DOA right out of the box... Maybe this is what i get for switching away from ASUS. And it is of course backordered now so who knows when i can get a replacement board since they don't allow switching to an ASUS at this point.

5 out of 5 eggsBest MB Out there!!

Pros: It's not a surprise for me that this motherboard is out of stock, i purchased the identical version of this board which is the Sniper2, but this one has a few imrpovements making it even greater than the already excellent sniper 2. Good thing they included in this one too is the EUFI Bios.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This board offers the best of all worlds, the newest cpu socket(LGA 2011). Soundblaster sound chip (Better than Excellent Sound) Even has headphones amplifier, Bigfoot Network chip with 1gb dedicated memory, premium capacitors, latest intel chipset, i mean what else could you ask for, and another thing for these supertechs here, there's nothing you can do with a triple or quad SLI / Crossfire setup, that you can't actually do with only two premium cards.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent high quality board for LGA2011

Pros: This is a VERY nice high end LGA2011 monthboard that is fully loaded and comes with all of the features people tend to need. One of the interesting thing with this board is that it's got dual bios', a switch that allows you to select the current bios configuration, and a BIOS reset button. It also has the x58 Sniper series of updates, such as the Killer BigFoot 1000BaseT ethernet, blue tooh and Wi-Fi (if you install it), Creative Labs CA20K2 high-end sound, plenty of USB 2.0 and 4 - USB 3.0 ports, and tons of SATA features. Two features that stand out: A) The heatsink bracket on this board is fantastic. I was also to mount a water block (Corsair D80) without issue. So even at hard play the CPU never reaches above 40C. B) The memory management system on this board is awesome. It looks at the information in the SPD on each DIMM and determines what the settings SHOULD be in order to run the RAM reliably. It is a case where it actually works...

Cons: None really. Gigabyte has excellent tools and the bios is fan tastic.

Other Thoughts: I find that Gigabyte makes keeper, and this board is a keeper.

5 out of 5 eggs! Overall Great performance with high quality components!

Pros: Pros:
Build in creative sound that lets you play games and listen to music with a crisp sound. Bigfoot killer E2100 Ethernet a plus: reduce online gaming lag.
No need to mess with the bios with the built in OC button.

Cons: Not too many extras like 8 DIMM or 4 PCI Express x16 who really needs that many slots any way. By the time you make use of all those features it will be time to upgrade with new and less power demanding components.
Immature bios but stable over all even when oc

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this board to most users since it give you exactly what you need compared with other top models out there. I am not a big over clocker since I prefer stability and readability on the long run. Only what you need but with very high quality components
