5 out of 5 eggsSolid board

Pros: Supports socket 2011 CPUs, plenty of memory sockets, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, reliable.

Cons: Really best in a full tower case, heatsinks can present a challenge for fans mounted too close to the side of the board. Especially evident if using water cooling with a top mounted 120mm radiator, like the H100i. Had to upgrade my case to a Corsair 750 for it to fit.

Other Thoughts: Get a big case. Use water cooling. Makes for a much quieter system.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk, avoid this MB

Pros: Basically nothing.

Cons: This is my second gigabyte x79-UP4 mother board in last three months. Both had the same problem. Almost every other day, the main bios gets corrupted. It takes at least 10-15 minutes, if you are lucky, to correct the bios problem. This is the last gigabyte board I am bought. Never again. Before you buy any gigabyte board, do yourself a favor and goggle "main bios corrupted".

5 out of 5 eggsSolid and capable!

Pros: This card has been a solid performer and works great!

Cons: Limit on RAID through the on board Marvell controllers to pairs. Memory moduals are VERY close to the top PCi slot which prevented me from being able to use RAM coolers, but not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: It has been very easy to setup and get running. Had some issues loading RAID drivers, but there is a great video on Youtube for that. Every connection I could ever need has been taken care of in this board.

1 out of 5 eggsNever made it to work

Pros: looks nice behind plexi in big case

Cons: Bios and all HDWare setups , no problemo, never made it through boot up, cannot install any OS tried to change all, different CPUs, memory, three different graphics, all possible HDD, from SSD, up to raptors, even different power supplies, external bluerays, regular DVDs, even went external usb sticks, old good doublelayer Sony drive, this board is a dead meat, going back to my always working MSI

Other Thoughts: overpriced

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: I've had it for a month now and it shows no signs of problems. All the features I want in a motherboard are there. The amount of SATA 3 connections is awesome, and this thing seems to run much cooler than my old system even with a mild overclock. Which if you don't know how, it'll do it for you almost. I ran a much more aggressive overclock to see if it would with no problems manually, don't listen to the whiners. Memory has reached it's full advertised speed. Don't forget to turn on XMP, or do it manually for extreme stuff. I would run through all the specs, but you can do that yourself.

Great board. Does everything I want. Could do quad SLI if I wanted to.

Cons: I'd like more system fan headers. It has four, one close to each corners. With an I7, the potential for heat is there so be prepared to either have a few case fans on full, or through a discrete controller.

The top graphics card slot is pretty close to the CPU. If you water cool it's not an issue, but many aftermarket fan will conflict.

I'm not a big fan of the bios. Not a big deal though, I'm not staring at it for hours. It's functional like a bios should be.

Other Thoughts: I was hoping that this mobo would post a little quicker than it does. It looks great if you're into staring at circuit boards. It feels ridiculously solid. I have no doubt in my mind that if I dropped it, then it would be fine.

5 out of 5 eggsNO COMPLAINTS HERE

Pros: running a 4930k @4.7ghz on REAL WATER as a daily driver for 6 months now without an issue. I think some might have overclocking probs related to the memory settings....I always set manual timings and voltage.

Cons: clueless people leaving bad reviews indicating obvious lack of knowledge....wanted a ud5 or 7 and couldn't find one at the time

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board if you know what you're doing

Pros: It has a lot of expansion capabilities. With 8 slots for memory and quad channel, you can do a lot!

The heat sinking can really help you maintain system temps if you know how it works. Using top case fans aligned with the heat sinks keeps the system temp low while liquid cooling on the CPU pretty much removes the rest (the graphics card being carried away from top venting). I'm running around 39~43 at full load.

The voltage protection is great for fooling around with overclocking when you have to screw with your memory voltage. For the people complaining about 3D overclock and other utilities not working, the complaints are a bit give and take. Yes, if they include the utilities, they should work. But seriously, if you're buying a higher end motherboard, you should KNOW how overclocking works, otherwise buy a lower end board and use the cheap utilites with a slider bar.

I'm using an i7 4960X, posted first boot no problems. XMP works perfectly.

Cons: The BIOS gui is pretty terrible. It doesn't always recognize the mouse, so you'll likely be using the keyboard half the time. This isn't a big deal to me because that's how BIOSes have been since I started building my own computers. That being said, navigating a BIOS with certain features meant to be used with a mouse can be a pain.

There is an issue with the reports that come straight from the motherboard. When overclocked, the clock speed is incorrectly reported by windows. I get the feeling windows is only grabbing the static information from the CPU instead of from the system. Not a biggie.

The board fan power plugs are in very strange places and they are not very well labeled. This can be an issue if you're setting up water cooling, as you don't want an increase of heat speeding up the speed of the flow of coolant circulation instead of the fan speed on the actual radiator. If you go this route, make sure you use a hardware monitoring program to make sure you have them set correctly or you'll have overheating issues

Other Thoughts: A lot of the 1 eggers are complaining of bad boards. I can understand that being frustrating and to great lengths, a unacceptable. But expecting that a manufacturing company have a 0% lemon rate is ludicrous.

Another thing to note. This board has TWO revisions. A v1.0 and a v1.1. You want the v1.1, you can see it stamped on the board.

Biggest thing to keep in mind. You absolutely MUST MUST MUST have a high wattage PSU. The LGA2011 sockets have a minimum 80W cpu and most are 130W. Have inadequate wattage is going to give you never ending headaches and can be difficult to figure out, leaving you thinking it might be the board, when really you are tapping out when the cpu load gets high (especially when you toss in a high end gaming graphics card).

2 out of 5 eggsTSC bug

Pros: Nice board. Good overclocking options. Solid build quality

Cons: This has the bug where the motherboard resets the CPU causing the time-stamp-counter (TSC/RDTSC) to skew backwards.

$ dmesg | grep tsc
[ 0.000000] tsc: Fast TSC calibration using PIT
[ 0.004000] tsc: Detected 3202.275 MHz processor
[ 0.008000] tsc: Marking TSC unstable due to check_tsc_sync_source failed

Same setup using an ASUS motherboard (with the newest BIOS)

$ dmesg | grep tsc
[ 0.000000] Fast TSC calibration using PIT
[ 2.373499] Refined TSC clocksource calibration: 3400.023 MHz.
[ 2.373585] Switching to clocksource tsc

RDTSC is a way to get super fast timings from the CPU where a full blown clock, or HPET is not needed.

Other Thoughts: Tried updating BIOS (shipped one back from latest), did not fix the TSC bug. Confirmed with Intel x86 engineer that TSC problems like this are from flaky BIOS's. If you need the TSC for anything, this is not your motherboard.

2 out of 5 eggsDone with it

Pros: Works fine in standard mode...no overclocking....standard 1600mhz RAM if all 8 Dimms populated .... XMP profile not accurate ..... do manual !!! ( above 1600mhz ) !

Cons: This is NOT an overclockers board at all.... might get LUCKY with a 4.3 with a I7-4930k Hexa-core ! Might have better luck with a 4820 or the 3XXX series. Will not run all 8 Dimms of high speed RAM at speeds..... if you popuate them all be prepared toleave XMP off and do it manually at probably 1600mhz RAM.... 2133 or 2400 will not happen ! Even found a F7 Bios with added functionality.... still a no go ! If your not into overclocking or running high speed RAM....this board will be fine.
See other thoughts !

Other Thoughts: Wanted to RMA this board thinking it was the board itself... it is not...... 90% of people I have forumed with has had same problem. Not a Hi-Perf board !
Like I said was going to RMA it but New Egg would just send the same board back ...whats the point of that ?
Purchased another brand from another site and now my 4930k screams at 4.6ghz with all 1866mhz RAM running perfect. Do not buy this board if you are a power user ! If you have a 4820 or 3820 with regular RAM and run at stock it will do you fine. Mine is just an emergency $250 back-up and wasted $$$ due to non support from Gigabyte mainly.... NewEgg at least offered to "replace" it ! Why replace junk with junk ???? A-S-U-S if you want your 4930K and memory to run at rated speed and well above ! 30+hours trying with this board.....cr@p .... 15 minutes with other brand.... ULTIMATE !
