2 out of 5 eggsTSC bug

Pros: Nice board. Good overclocking options. Solid build quality

Cons: This has the bug where the motherboard resets the CPU causing the time-stamp-counter (TSC/RDTSC) to skew backwards.

$ dmesg | grep tsc
[ 0.000000] tsc: Fast TSC calibration using PIT
[ 0.004000] tsc: Detected 3202.275 MHz processor
[ 0.008000] tsc: Marking TSC unstable due to check_tsc_sync_source failed

Same setup using an ASUS motherboard (with the newest BIOS)

$ dmesg | grep tsc
[ 0.000000] Fast TSC calibration using PIT
[ 2.373499] Refined TSC clocksource calibration: 3400.023 MHz.
[ 2.373585] Switching to clocksource tsc

RDTSC is a way to get super fast timings from the CPU where a full blown clock, or HPET is not needed.

Other Thoughts: Tried updating BIOS (shipped one back from latest), did not fix the TSC bug. Confirmed with Intel x86 engineer that TSC problems like this are from flaky BIOS's. If you need the TSC for anything, this is not your motherboard.

2 out of 5 eggsDone with it

Pros: Works fine in standard mode...no overclocking....standard 1600mhz RAM if all 8 Dimms populated .... XMP profile not accurate ..... do manual !!! ( above 1600mhz ) !

Cons: This is NOT an overclockers board at all.... might get LUCKY with a 4.3 with a I7-4930k Hexa-core ! Might have better luck with a 4820 or the 3XXX series. Will not run all 8 Dimms of high speed RAM at speeds..... if you popuate them all be prepared toleave XMP off and do it manually at probably 1600mhz RAM.... 2133 or 2400 will not happen ! Even found a F7 Bios with added functionality.... still a no go ! If your not into overclocking or running high speed RAM....this board will be fine.
See other thoughts !

Other Thoughts: Wanted to RMA this board thinking it was the board itself... it is not...... 90% of people I have forumed with has had same problem. Not a Hi-Perf board !
Like I said was going to RMA it but New Egg would just send the same board back ...whats the point of that ?
Purchased another brand from another site and now my 4930k screams at 4.6ghz with all 1866mhz RAM running perfect. Do not buy this board if you are a power user ! If you have a 4820 or 3820 with regular RAM and run at stock it will do you fine. Mine is just an emergency $250 back-up and wasted $$$ due to non support from Gigabyte mainly.... NewEgg at least offered to "replace" it ! Why replace junk with junk ???? A-S-U-S if you want your 4930K and memory to run at rated speed and well above ! 30+hours trying with this board.....cr@p .... 15 minutes with other brand.... ULTIMATE !

3 out of 5 eggsGood/ Bad/ and Ugly

Pros: This board has plenty of SATA ports, good fan power the layout for me (2 Video Cards) is great and I am grateful that the 'rainbow' design' is a thing of the past.

Cons: The BIOS were problematic coming out of the box, after a lot of software was installed and data entered the BIOS needed to be be flashed to F5 from F4 version. The boot up time seems longer than most boards and the board would not go to seep or hibernate...but the tech support on this was really horrible. Set up a ticket with tech support...they were totally clueless. No phone number, no contact other than online....MY LAST GIGABYTE BOARD

Other Thoughts: The real issues with this board were all customer service/ customer support based. I was really disappointed that ASUS appears to now have better tech support than Gigabyte...sad times...
The board is fair (not set up for overclocking) but really fast to begin with...but the customer service is terrible.

1 out of 5 eggsWouldn't recommend

Pros: Small ATX form not E-ATX. Kinda worked for a while. Its black and grey.

Cons: Board out of the box had memory issues where XMP profiles wouldn't work and had to manually enter memory settings. Board would not overclock at all. And was a real pain to make 32gb or ram run at 1866mhz. Ran for over a year then the marvel sata controller started not recognizing drives and then a week later I started having huge stability issues with the board and microsluttering while playing games. After a year of messing around with this board I've given up and going to buy an evga dark board and sell this junk...

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte has always been a good standby but I'm very disappointed in this board. Should of spend the extra 100 bucks and bought an asus or evga board....

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I love Gigabyte boards. there a quality product for a good price, The last system I built for myself had a gigabyte board and its been running for over 10 yrs and all I replaced was the power supply. There easy to install because the front panel is labeled on the board (not a big deal but its a nice feature).
This board has a great layout and everything works great

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have built many (5 or so) systems with Gigabyte boards and have never had a problem.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks Until It Doesn't

Pros: Easy setup.
Works as designed with few noticeable flaws (at first).
Great layout design.

Cons: Dies within 2 months.
Build quality issues.
Poor RMA support.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because it had a solid 4 eggs on Newegg and it had positive reviews on other websites. I have bought Gigabyte and Asus in the past and felt they were at least on-par. I was wrong.

The board started flaking out on me (bluescreens, random reboots) about a month in. Within 2 months of ownership, the board completely died to the point that it would not power on. Clicking the power button did nothing. I checked all the connections, RAM, and removed every unnecessary component. This was a new build with all new components so I was leery of just assuming it was the MoBo. But, after some extensive testing, I came to the conclusion that it was the board. RMA time.

The Gigabyte RMA site is a nightmare. The instructions are less than stellar and there's no way to contact a person. Additionally, once you do get your board onto their radar, you get no notification of what to do next or that they've approved your request (in the form of an e-mail or call, or such). You just have to assume someone saw what you did and then ship in your board on faith. Scary.

After about 10-15 days, my "new" board arrived in an unmarked, plain box. No explanation of what was wrong with the old one or even if this was a new one. Again, not stellar.

I installed the new board and pushed the go-juice button. Fired up on the first try and even had some power management capabilities in Win7 that I had assumed were a software/drivers issue. Great!

2 weeks later and it bluescreened again. A day after that it started randomly rebooting. Less than a week after the first bluescreen, I went to use the computer and found it off. No one had turned it off. I pushed the power button and nothing happened. Tried reconnecting the power cables and flipping the PSU switch on/off before trying again. Nothing. Waited a day, checked the power to the machine and ... she's dead, Jim. Looks like I'll be buying that ASUS after all.

All in all, NOT a happy customer. Stay away.

1 out of 5 eggsSo much for Support !

Pros: There isn't any !

Cons: They listed this in my my review and I replied with details.... no response from them OR Gigabyte eSupport !
They just don't care or they do not know how to fix it or they are upset because they are selling bad boards with features that are no lonfer supported like 3D Bios ( new version 1.1 with F5 bios does not have 3D bios it is not supported ) !!!!!!

2 out of 5 eggsGigabyte Gone Bad

Pros: X79 Chipset, Good Looking, lots of connectivity, Price not bad for 2011 motherboard.

Cons: Not an overclockers board, has limitations, I have tried everything to get my I7-4930K CPU to 4.4ghz ( moderate overclock ) but fails and BSOD on Windows 8.1 Pro. Using Corsair H100i cooler. 3D Bios does not function or even option to get there with F5 Bios, I guess that ended after the F3 Bios. Gigabyte support is just awful !!!!!! Boot/Post is slow even with Samsung 830 512gb SSD. No Clear CMOS button...have to use jumper pins ! No LED troubleshooting code lights ! DO NOT BUY THIS BOARD !

Other Thoughts: Have used at least 5 older Gigabyte boards from X58 to Z77 chipsets and they worked well. But that was a few years ago, this board is not up to par and unfortunately I guess I will have to RMA it and go with another brand. PC will be down for a couple weeks then of course a rebuild and I have a lot of drives and fans and SLI, soundcard, so on.... UGHHH !!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsBoard bad, paying for return shipping for defective product -BAD

Pros: 0. Board would not post. Employed every method possible. No memory, no graphics, purchased new cpu, etc. Zip

Cons: 0. Board would not post. Employed every method possible. No memory, no graphics, purchased new cpu, etc. Zip

Other Thoughts: Having to pay for the return shipping on a defective product is ridiculous. Newegg doesn't stand behind the products that they sell. If it works, find, if it doesn't work, your problem with getting it back to us.
After spending thousands and thousands of dollars with newegg over the last several years, this will be the last experience. newegg reads all reviews before posting. I am sure this one will not be posted.

For no POST/display issue, please check the following:

1. Be sure the CPU is supported by this motherboard, for CPU support list please go to the GIGABYTE website.

2. Check memory requirement and memory installation, be sure the memory is/are seated properly. You may test the board with a single stick to rule a single bad stick of memory.

3. Be sure the ATX 24-Pin and ATX 12V 4 or 8-Pin are plugged in firmly into the board.

4. Check for visible bent or broken pin(s) in the CPU socket (Intel CPU).

5. If you have an add-on video card installed, please check if the card requires additional powers 4, 6, or 8 Pin PCIE power.

6. Test the board on a non-conductive surface or test bench to rule out the grounding possibility.

7. Check monitor for video input selection, VGA, DVI, or HDMI.

8. Avoid using any video adapter or KVM switch.

9. Test with different video cable.

10. Clear the CMOS by taking out the CMOS battery from the battery socket, leave it out for 5 minutes and place it back after that (positive side faces up).

1 out of 5 eggsReally bad motherboard

Pros: You will learn a lot about how motherboards work because you will spend so much time figuring out this stupid motherboard.

Cons: Running more than 2 gpus on this board will give you a lot of headaches.

Other Thoughts: Motherboard claims a 4 way crossfire when in fact it does not work. Having the 4 gpus on the motherboard makes it too hot for the whole system anyways. So i purchased aftermarket Arctic coolers to cool the gpus. However, these are too big too fit all four onto the motherboard. Purchased 3 different sets of pcie risers to solve this problem. Now 2 out of the four gpus will not even recognize. How are you suppose to put 4gpus on a motherboard without overheating?

I have spent many sleepless days trying to figure out this board. I am currently running 7 computers will all different motherboards, Asus, asrock, msi. This is my first gigabyte board and it has given me the most trouble. Dont purchase this board if you are planning to put more than 2 gpus on it.
