4 out of 5 eggsNice Board - A Few Limits & Problems

Pros: Very flexible for a Mini-ITX sized board. Plays with the big boys. Build a desktop replacement in a "LAN Party sized machine I could easily move.

Cons: Only 4 SATA ports, only 1 slot (but this is a Mini ITX architecture limitation) Only 1 system fan header

Other Thoughts: I wanted to built the smallest possible high power PC and I think I succeeded with a few limits. With only 4 SATA ports I had to pick my I/O devices carefully. It needed a CD/DVD/BR drive and an SSD for the C Drive - that's 2 down. I added 2 1TB 2.5" form factor laptop type drives and I was done. A few more would have been nice. I squeezed all this with a Silverstone SFF 430w P/S and an ATI (AMD) Radeon 7700 short video card in a Lian-Li PC-Q09 case. I used an i5 3570K cpu. It makes for quite a screamer earning a Windows Experience Index of 7.5 with no overclocking.

3 out of 5 eggsGA-Z77N-WIFI Review

Pros: Great little board for a compact system setup.

Cons: PCI-E slot bad. Tried two video cards and nothing shows up on the monitor, with the monitor cable plugged into either the onboard HDMI spots, nor via the add-on graphics card(s) (Evga Geforce 210 or a Evga Geforce GTX 650). Not sure if there is a UEFI setting that I missed or what...

Other Thoughts: N/A

5 out of 5 eggsThis Mini ITX Mobo Rocks !

Pros: Impressive design, layout and bios features. Very easy to set up and work with. Recommended if you are doing a BitFenix Prodigy build. Dual Lan, Wifi (and Widi) a Plus. The 4 Sata ports allowed me to add 2 Hdd's (1 SSD and a 320Gb 7200), an Optical Drive, and, even an external (using eSATA). The GPU dual-latch design is also a plus. You can even do a little overclocking CPU & RAM, to boot !

Cons: The picture on the 3D Bios is not of the GA-Z77N (somewhat confusing). Note to GIGABYTE: Novice installers will find it hard to match their boards components to the ones depicted in the visual. Please update.

Other Thoughts: This little Motherboard simply rocks when combined with an Intel i5 (or i7) 3xxxk CPU, 8-16Gb of DDR3 and a mid (or upper) level GPU. 5 Eggs to Gigabyte and, of course to Newegg for featuring this versatile Mini ITX Mobo.

2 out of 5 eggsIt works...

Pros: lots of ports on the back for such a small package.
some overclocking features are possible.
the two network ports for teaming is helpful, but the drivers for teaming are lacking in functionality.

Cons: no WOL (Wake-on-Lan)
This is the most disappointing part of this motherboard. I had no idea that manufacturers delivering a "high end" mini ITX board would not include this. I had boards from 10 years ago that included WOL. I also am disappointed that it is included in page 49 of the manual, but does not exist in latest version of the BIOS. I would not buy another GIGABYTE board for this reason.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend this board. looking into other packages that include the basic WOL feature.

1 out of 5 eggsTroll board

Pros: Layout was nice, h80i sat nicely, everything booted up and things were going great until...

Cons: No vcore control on a Z77 board are you KIDDING ME?! This is a complete failure. Inexcusable.

Other Thoughts: I would be willing to accept some responsibility for missing this 'lack-of' feature, but it's just so ridiculous. As with most 1 egg reviews, it gets 1 because I can't go any lower.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments. Honest and constructive opinions are always welcome. We apologize for your difficulty with your GIGABYTE product.

Due to mini-ITX form factor size, some overclocking features are not supported. For fully overclocking options, please see our ATX sized or mATX motherboard models such as:

3 out of 5 eggsIf it fits, it sits!

Pros: This is a perfectly adequate board. It fits fine inside of my BitFenix Prodigy BFC-PRO-300-OOXKO-RP just fine. It's sturdy and took plenty of abuse while I was installing it. Runs with a GTX 670 and an i5 CPU perfectly. The manual is thick, well-written, and does a fantastic job of walking you through the install.

Cons: Two fan connectors on the motherboard INCLUDING the CPU fan. There's no reason to not have more options for fans on this. It limits you to one single case fan. Ridiculous!

Other Thoughts: This was my first mini-ITX build. I needed something small for an upcoming military deployment to a very hot part of the world, and with one tiny CPU fan and one case fan, I am afraid of overheating when I get there.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments. Honest and constructive opinions are always welcome. We apologize for your difficulty with your GIGABYTE product.

This is a mini-ITX form factor motherboard which is limited in size. One chassis fan and 1 CPU will ft most, if not all configurations in a small form factor chassis. We will take your suggestion of adding an additional chassis fan in future models.

5 out of 5 eggsUnderrated High Performance Board

Pros: It's tiny, well it's Mini-ITX after all, but packs a big punch. With a Z77 architecture you can do a lot. Everything except the full range of voltage adjustments you would need for overclocking. 2of the SATA ports are 6 GB/sec which is nice.

Cons: It's an ITX limitation so no eggs off, but it would be nice if the form factor supported a second slot. It's needed for hi-po VGA cards as well as growth space for an eSATA or other card. Needs a couple more SATA ports. It only has 4 which can really limit choices. It needs 6 since there's no way to add an eSATA card and a video card.

Other Thoughts: Mini-ITX has severe limitations which will bring out your creativity or frustrate you. Need to think out your growth plans before embarking on the project. You might need to step up to Micro-ATX with its additional PCIe slots and SATA ports

5 out of 5 eggsI'm very pleased

Pros: I put an i5 processor, 8GB memory, an SSD, and a sub $150 NVidia card on this board, and it rocks. Windows 7's built in performance benchmark ranks it over 7 for all components with my configuration. I built this PC for around $1,000 but that includes the monitor. Not bad.

Cons: One of the WiFi antenna connectors is stripped out... I'm not sure why. I wasn't planning on using wi-fi anyway.

Other Thoughts: I really have to wonder how much better a $2000 PC would run compared to my $1000 PC... I have a feeling that the difference would not justify the high end price.

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic Feature Packed and Compact

Pros: This was my first mini-itx build and I am really satisfied. This tiny little board packs in some really great features, the BIOS is very fancy with built in mouse support and an interesting alternative interface based on a graphical schematic of the board. It comes with two NICs, USB3, onboard wifi, power on via keyboard and the fastest POST to boot I've ever seen (it goes so fast you may have to reboot to catch the BIOS and boot order keybinds). I paired this up with a BitFenix Prodigy plus i5, and a gtx660ti.... this thing screams and keeps shockingly cool under pressure. I was a little hesitant at first because this form factor only has room for one PCIE and two dimm slots, but since this is a dedicated gaming PC, I recognize that I won't really need the extra expansion slots especially since I've failed to utilize them in previous gaming rigs I've built over the years.

On a minor note, It's been something like three years since I built a desktop PC, so I'm not sure if this is standard now , but one thing I really appreciated was the no-hassle back-plate for the board inputs; 0 bending and twisting of metal phalanges necessary, just snap it in place and seal the deal. Everyone board manufacturer should do this.

AWESOME board. Gigabyte does not disappoint.

Cons: Be careful with aftermarket coolers, the position of the CPU slot relative to the PCIE slot made it impossible to fit my Cooler Master Hyper 212 in a sane position. Ideally, the heatsink fan should be blowing towards an exhaust, but my only viable option was to set it up with a perpendicular orientation (facing a case wall) after displacing the heatsink contact by 1/8th an inch off the processor so that I could successfully affix a fan to the heatsink while still leaving room for the video-card. This was my fault for not researching further.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 did not recognize the NICs by default; this isn't a huge deal, but it means you better keep the driver DVD safe just in case this machine ends up as your only gateway to the internet.

Finally, be weary of the driver DVD, it contains unnecessary Norton crapware that will install itself by default if you select any automatic driver installation options. Make sure you're explicit regarding what software you want the DVD to install or you'll end up facepalming and attempting to kill the install process (which conveniently resumes from exactly where it left off if you try to end process and restart).

2 out of 5 eggsNo WOL

Pros: Dual NICs and Wifi on a micro ATX

Cons: No Wake on Lan ( WOL ). I thought almost all motherboards had a WOL.

What is the use of dual NICs and you cannot wake up the computer remotely. Specially on a Micro ATX MB that could be used as a media center.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your comments. Honest and constructive opinions are always welcome. We apologize for your difficulty with your Gigabyte product.

Yes, this model does not support WoL. Please contact Newegg for an exchange. If you require further assistance, please contact us at newegg-support@gigabyte-usa.com with the case number 2013050302 in the subject line.
