1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing Gigabyte Board

Pros: Looks good
Worked as intended for a while

Cons: Was fine until the CMOS no longer saves itself after 6 months.
Now boots with corrupted main bios and reverts to secondary bios, then fails to boot. Then decides to boot into main bios and boots.....finally albeit by destroying the raid array.
Very disappointing board given I've bought Gigabyte for years. Not impressed.

1 out of 5 eggsDead in 6 months

Pros: Classic PCI slot for my trusty old semi-pro pci audio card.
All around nice board when it was working.
After bios updates and getting settings just right it was nice and stable.

Cons: The "Ultra Durable TM" board is ultra dead.
The 2nd pci-e with 2 slot video card will block the classic pci :(

Other Thoughts: I never overclock and I handle everything after proper electrostatic discharge.

3 out of 5 eggsok

Pros: Looks cool, easy to use, nice bios, feels like quality.

Cons: Some USB ports stay powered on when PC is powered off. USB failures.

Other Thoughts: This is a nice board but I'd expect a little better for the price. Not a deal breaker but the USB port issues are annoying.

2 out of 5 eggsDead USB ports

Pros: Great features from the X87 chipset. Great looks, color scheme, general layout.

Cons: After about 6 months, I noticed my USB devices stopped working. Only 2 out of 6 rear USB ports were working. Front ports still work along with the other 2 headers.

Other Thoughts: i will be RMAing this board eventually.

4 out of 5 eggsRock solid hackintosh board

Pros: Had this board running OSX 10.9 Mavericks and it works beautifully.

Check out Tonymacx86 for details but everything works for me.

Good thing about Gigabyte is their mobos are typically very configurable and not locked down tight like Asus.

Cons: The mobo is designed very tightly. I wished Gigabyte could put their 5V power molex somewhere closer to the PCI-E slots so I don't always have to route my cabling so tightly behind.

4 out of 5 eggsJust an update to my review

Pros: See my previous review

Cons: After having upgraded the bios to firmware F9 I started having problems with the usb 3 ports aborting file transfers.

The bios will not let me downgrade to an older bios. So I have knocked one star off.

Other Thoughts: If you have problems with the usb 3 ports, first try installing the microsoft usb fix found on their website. Although what fixed it for me was setting the usb inthe bios to auto. For whatever reason the bios had defaulted to enabled, which caused major problems for me with the usb 3 aborting file tansfers to the drive.

I still like this board a lot though. Also remember that some older sandorce ssd drives have problems with the intel chipset.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to review

Pros: Just an update to my previous review. I was able get a video card and installed it in the computer. Tested out the first PCI-E slot and it worked as it should. The game that I had tested called loadout. Frames with the onboard video were 25-30. After installing the GTX 560 frames shot up to over 120!

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: I updated this review because I have seen other people having troubles with the PCI-E slot. In my case there are no issues.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Overall a pretty solid and well performing MB. The CPU is an i7-4770K with 16Gb of RAM, a 250Gb SSD (C: drive) and a 1Tb HDD (D: drive).

Cons: I bought 2 of these MB's for 2 builds, both at Revision 1.1, and have the same issues on both MB's:

1.) Running a single 24" display at 1920x1200 works fine with the on board graphics adapter. Running 3 of the same displays with the on board graphics adapter is not possible. I circumvented this issue by purchasing a GB GTX-760 4Mb video card and all is well on the video front.

2.) I am using a Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard with its USB connected receiver. When I plug the USB receiver into any of the rear USB ports, the mouse and keyboard performance suffers terribly to the point of not being able to use them reliably. Plugging the same USB receiver into any of the 2 USB port on the front of my mid tower, and the mouse and keyboard perform flawlessly. Plugging any other device to a rear USB port causes the mouse and keyboard to perform poorly.

The 2 front USB ports are connected to the USB3.0 header at the bottom of the MB. I upgraded the BIOS to F9 and applied all of the latest Windows 8.1 drivers the Gigabyte App Center recommended. Windows 8.1 64 bit is also current and up to date.

Other Thoughts: I am pleased with this MB and its performance and features. However, I am not pleased with the 2 issues I have encountered.

I have worked around the video issue on 1 system with multi monitors by incorporating a video card. The other system uses a single monitor and currently performs well, and if and when I decide to add additional monitors will more than likely include a video card.

The USB3.0 issue is important to me and I have spent many frustrating hours trying to troubleshoot a problem I should not be having.

I would NOT recommend the G87X-UD3H unless Gigabyte resolves the 2 issues I cited. I am hopeful Gigabyte support will come through and develop a fix for these issues. From reading other G87X-UD3H reviews apparently I am not alone with these issues.

I hope others find my review useful.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Strong and sturdy motherboard. Solid construction. Even the included back panel was sturdy.
All motherboard components are easily accessible, with the exception of the right angle SATA ports.
Included driver disc works perfectly for the initial operating system install, however updated drivers and BIOS files are available online for download (GET THEM).
Full Intel Haswell support (LGA 1150).
Convenient LED Displays and Button schemes on the board. No more shorting/flipping jumpers.
Excellent expansion options, PCIe 16x/1x and 32 Bit, as well as USB/Audio headers.
TPM Support- not many motherboard manufactures have mainstreamed this.
UEFI BIOS is highly customizable, many options to choose from.
Overclocking potential, although limited options to manipulate.
Low FSB Heat output. Many onboard thermal sensors.
Many Fan Headers to work with, especially for water-cooled setups.
UEFI Bootloader is functional.

Cons: USB3.0 Support is weak during preinstall, non-UEFI boot, and during normal Windows operations.
Any connected USB storage devices will not be immediately recognized after returning from sleep/hibernate mode.
BIOS must be updated to correct certain bugs and BSODs that occur during operating system install and daily usage. The latest BIOS temporarily addresses the USB issues shown above, but there are still bugs to be worked out.
PCI Express bandwidth is divided up among installed peripherals.
For Crossfire/SLI: each added card will split the available bandwidth; 16x-8x-4x will be the order, for each card added, under PCIe 3.0 specifications.
The PCIe 1x ports operate under PCIe 2.0 specifications.
I am not sure if the 16x ports will downgrade to 2.0 specifications if the 1x slots are allocated.
Onboard multiple display support is weak (using Intel’s integrated graphics); a GPU is required.
Enabling External eSATA ports will disable the two internal SATA ports (Marvell Controller).
Internal UEFI BIOS update utility is buggy. I highly advise users to use the Windows application to update.
Right-Angle SATA ports are an inconvenience in small chassis/cases.
Installed RAM Specifications were not automatically detected, however, the settings can be corrected easily through the BIOS. I suggest you stick to your stock timings, as overclocking with 4 installed RAM modules immediately resulted in consistent BSODs.
Driver support for Windows 7 x64 is stronger than Windows 8/8.1 x64.
Audio through HDMI seems to lose sync with video output. Alternative solution: map audio through either the analog connections or the optical output.
Strange humming noise was being emitted through the analog audio connectors until updated drivers from Realtek were installed.
Gigabyte’s included software is bloatware (resource intense) to the operating system, however some software may be useful to some users.
Intel’s RAID Controller conflicts with the Marvell RAID Controller; either you use one or the other, not both. If the Marvell controller is being used and both internal SATA ports are occupied, Hot-Plug Support no longer is a stable option.

Other Thoughts: System Configuration
Case: Fractal R4 (N82E16811352020)
PSU: Corsair Enthusiast TX650 (N82E16817139020)
