Release the full power of Intel's 4th Gen Core processor with the GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-OC motherboard.

Based on the latest Intel Z87 chipset, the GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-OC is a great foundation for your powerhouse. It takes full advantage of "Haswell" performance and features in an LGA 1150 package. This motherboard is designed specifically for the purpose of breaking OC records, with an array of exclusive and unique features that have never been seen before on a motherboard. Giving pro and enthusiast overclockers the edge on LN2, the GIGABYTE Z87X-OC sits at the cutting edge of technical possibility, pushing the outer limits of performance.

OC Ignition
There are occasions as an overclocker when you want to shut down the system without turning off the power to other parts of the system, for example the drives and system fans. This is where OC Ignition is really useful. Hitting the OC Ignition button gives continuous, uninterrupted power to all the motherboard's connected drives and system fans, but not to the CPU. This is useful in 'cold bug' situations when you need to heat the CPU to a bootable temperature, but you'd prefer the fans to keep spinning, reducing moisture build-up.

Overclockers using i-ram drives may also want to maintain SATA power, and not risk losing their customized OS install. Users with regular SSDs or HDDs also know that frequent powering on and off is harmful to your drives in the long-term.

OC Ignition is also useful in allowing users to pre-test water cooling setups, and even allows case mod demos to be developed without having to fully turn on the PC.

OC Ignition: Feature Summary
• Powers fans and drives without booting or powering the CPU
• Active fans help to reduce moisture build-up when using LN2
• Maintain continuous uninterrupted power to drives
• Safely powers water cooling systems for safe leak checking
• Test demo and case mod systems without needing to boot the system
OC Touch
The GIGABYTE OC Touch includes a range of easy-to-use buttons and switches featured exclusively on GIGABYTE OC motherboards.
OC PCIe Switch
Overclockers can manually turn on or off each installed PCIe lane of the motherboard, allowing users to effortlessly remove graphic cards from the system without the hassle of physically removal. This is especially convenient for VGA overclocking on LN2 and water-cooled systems.
OC PEG
OC Peg adds auxiliary power to the PCIe slots of your motherboard, improving system stability in extreme configurations. This is especially useful in power-hungry four-way graphics configurations.
OC Brace
OC Brace allows extreme overclockers and system testers to safely install up to four graphics cards in an open case or test bed, without risking PCIe slot damage or preventing cards not showing up in the OS due to poor contact with the PCIe slot. OC Brace is a simple and elegant way to give robust installation support to full-sized graphics cards in extreme multi-GPU configurations, including LN2 benching with cumbersome GPU pots that a need stable, solid installation base over extended periods.
OC Connect
OC Connect positions two USB connectors on the near side of the motherboard facing the overclocker. This makes it easier to save data, flash the BIOS, or install software in open bench testing platforms – whether for extreme overclocking, or simply pretesting the PC before final component installation inside a case, scenarios where accessing the rear-panel IO can be an inconvenience.
GIGABYTE Exclusive Ultra Durable Technologies
GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards integrate the absolute best quality solid state capacitors that are rated to perform at maximum efficiency for extended periods, even in extreme performance configurations. This provides peace of mind for end users who want to push their system hard, yet demand absolute reliability and stability. With ultra-low ESR – no matter how high the CPU loading – these capacitors come in customized jet black, exclusively on GIGABYTE 8 series motherboards. ("Rated for an unprecedented 10,000 hours of intensive operation at an incredible 105°C" – Nippon Chemi-Con)
Gold-Plated Solid Power Connectors
GIGABYTE Overclocking motherboards feature gold-plated connectors for the CPU and 24-pin ATX power connectors. Gold provides better conductivity and signal transmission than standard implementations, and gives far better reliability and stability over time due to its resistance to metal corrosion caused by frequent use.
Gold-Plated CPU Socket, DDR, and PCI Express Slots
GIGABYTE 8 series motherboards come equipped with gold-plated hardware for the most crucial areas where your motherboard has contact with other components: gold-plated CPU socket, gold DDR3 slots, and PCI Express slots. Using gold-plated CPU socket and slots means that enthusiasts are guaranteed absolute reliability and longevity for the CPU, memory, and graphics cards, no matter how many times you switch them out.
Extreme Multi-GPU Support
Optimized support for AMD CrossFire in four-way configurations, plus support for NVIDIA SLI technology in two-way setups. This extreme design allows a more optimized multiple-card overclocking experience, where the first three slots have the data bandwidth available from trace paths direct from the CPU, and the fourth slot takes the PCIe lanes from the Intel Z87 PCH.
New GIGABYTE UEFI DualBIOS with Dashboard Mode
GIGABYTE's new UEFI DualBIOS has a redesigned user interface that offers users the chance to take control of their BIOS environment like never before.

Dashboard Mode: GIGABYTE's exclusive Dashboard Mode puts you firmly in the driving seat, allowing users to have complete access to all data related to your motherboard's key components, including CPU, graphics and memory clocks, temperatures, voltages, and fan speeds.
Fully Customizable UI: Users can create their own custom home page, adding the menus and options that they tend to use most frequently. This creates a slick and optimized interface that you can customize further by adding your own  background image.
Choose Your Own Landing Page: Choose exactly which section or page of the BIOS you want to land on after each reboot. If you are fine-tuning your memory timings, you can save time with each reboot by landing on the DDR sub-timings page each time. Fewer clicks, better experience.
Real-Time Overclocking: For the first time ever, overclockers can adjust the CPU clock, frequency, and voltage settings in real-time within BIOS. This massively saves time, allowing users to find optimal settings without having to reboot.
GIGABYTE EasyTune
Now integrated with the GIGABYTE App Center, a re-designed and updated EasyTune app offers a simple and easy-to-use interface that allows users to fine-tune their system settings. Adjust system and memory clocks and voltages in a Windows environment with system-related information displayed, including advanced system fan calibration and configuration.

2 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this mb

Pros: I really love this mother board. Everything about it appears to be perfect. However, this board has caused me soooo much frustration that I will probably never buy another gigabyte mb again

Cons: 1) the fancy GUI based setup is very impressive. But I cannot find where to set the device boot order. WHERE IS THE BOOT ORDER SET IN THIS GUI? I had to go to the legacy setup mode in order to find the screen to set the boot order.
2) If a drive is disabled in the boot order screen, the BIOS appears to not consider it attached to the system. That is, with a particular drive Enabled in the SATA setup screen, but NOT included in the boot order of the boot screen, then it is as if the drive is not even connected. The device boot list takes president over the SATA drive list. This is plain STUPID.
3) It appears that the boot order is NOT accurate. If I have a DVD drive set to be the 1st boot device, and a 2nd drive set to be the 2nd boot device, and this 2nd drive is bootable, the 2nd drive is booted and the DVD drive, which is set to be the 1st boot device, is ignored.

This has cost me 2 days to figure out this mess!! Unless the drive is in the boot list, the Windows 7 installer will not install on that drive even if it is enabled in the SATA list.

I had a corrupted Windows boot drive as the 2nd boot drive. So this BIOS ignores the DVD that is the 1st boot device in the list and attempts to boot the 2nd drive, which is corrupted which causes Windows to give that black screen that says it cannot boot Windows because something boot-related is corrupted, insert the install DVD and reboot. So the only way I can get this board to boot off the 1st configured boot device is to only have that DVD as the 1st boot device and no more boot drives in the list. But then when you try to install Windows, the installer recognizes the 2nd drive (because it is enabled in the SATA list) but says that the drive is not bootable (because it is not in the BIOS boot list) so Windows will not install on it.

So the Microsoft installer is brain dead because it will not install to a drive that is not on the boot list even though it is in the SATA list. And this motherboard is brain dead because it will actually boot the 2nd device on the boot list even though a bootable Windows install DVD is loaded and the DVD device is set as the 1st bootable device in the list.

Between Microsoft stupidity and this stupid BIOS, I have spent 2 days getting this system up and running.

I am sorry, but I expect better from Gigabyte

Other Thoughts: I bought this mother board in early February but I am just getting around to installing it now. Consequently, I have no return/replacement options.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: First gaming board. I do beleave it's a good choise in the future.Looks simple to overclock in the Bios. I prefer to run as for the moment. Have a i7 4770k, which is decent. Had a few issues with the board.

Cons: Din't have display on a few occasions. Changed cables and took off adaptors. Now, I leave it as. And the system kept rebooting after 2 sec. It is painful to try to shut it down 20 times or more in a row. Went on forums. Solved the matter by: DESABLE WAKE LAN in the Bios. Hope this info saves time to someone.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice to have drivers for Linux

3 out of 5 eggsLove it when it works

Pros: It works great. The bios is beautiful and easy to understand even to a noob.

Cons: Loses configuration often. Sometimes computer won't even boot. Not sure why.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your comments. We apologize for your difficulty with your GIGABYTE product. Please contact us at newegg-support@gigabyteusa.com with the case number 106809 in the e-mail subject line. For no POST/display issue, please check the following:

1. Be sure the CPU is supported by this motherboard, for CPU support list please go to the GIGABYTE website.

2. Check memory requirement and memory installation, be sure the memory is/are seated properly. You may test the board with a single stick to rule a single bad stick of memory.

3. Be sure the ATX 24-Pin and ATX 12V 4 or 8-Pin are plugged in firmly into the board.

4. Check for visible bent or broken pin(s) in the CPU socket (Intel CPU).

5. If you have an add-on video card installed, please check if the card requires additional powers 4, 6, or 8 Pin PCIE power.

6. Test the board on a non-conductive surface or test bench to rule out the grounding possibility.

7. Check monitor for video input selection, VGA, DVI, or HDMI.

8. Avoid using any video adapter or KVM switch.

9. Test with different video cable.

10. Clear the CMOS by taking out the CMOS battery from the battery socket, leave it out for 5 minutes and place it back after that (positive side faces up).

2 out of 5 eggsBad RMA service, steer clear

Pros: Decent motherboard.

Cons: After upgrading CPU/Motherboard/RAM I began experiencing video driver-related crashes, system hangs, and garbled display issues. Thinking it was the video card (GIGABYTE GTX 770) I RMA'd it to Gigabyte. They returned it with no problems found. I had run extensive Prime95 and MemTest86+ tests on the CPU and RAM with no problems, so I RMA'd the motherboard.

The RMA status shows the following:
Receive Date: 2014/02/19 05:26
Repaired Date: 2014/02/19 06:58
RMA Status: "No trouble found after tests with multiple configurations"

So they spent 1 hour 32 minutes "testing" the board before calling it good, whereas they spent 6 days testing the GTX 770.

It took them 5 days to ship back the GTX 770 after "repairing" was complete. It's currently 2014/02/26 (by their clock) and they have yet to ship the motherboard back to me.

I do not recommend this brand as their RMA service is garbage. If further troubleshooting doesn't reveal a different faulty component (RAM stick or CPU) then I have zero confidence that they actually fully tested the board and will have to purchase a replacement (from someone else!)

1 out of 5 eggsFollow Up Review

Pros: NONE! 2 week waste of time!

Cons: When I posted my last review I didn't have all the facts.
The reason this board was buggy is because the CPU socket was bad. When I installed the CPU it made a mashing noise. As I took the CPU out to return the board, I noticed it. Been a Gigabyte fan for 11 years. This board should have never left the factory. Take notice Gigabyte. Lots of your boards seem to be rated low. I use to get on new egg and see Gigabyte boards with 5 eggs!

Other Thoughts: I switched hesitantly to ASUS.

3 out of 5 eggsPrimary BIOS DOA - use the backup BIOS!

Pros: Fast speeds. Hooray for the DUAL BIOS feature (but hang on to that thought..). Easier to setup than the Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5H (don't buy that model).

Cons: My GA-Z87X-OC Primary BIOS was dead on arrival - about to be sent back to NewEgg via RMA

Other Thoughts: This will be my last Gigabyte motherboard ever. After going through misery with my first GA-Z87X-UD5H mb that had to be sent to Gigabyte US for REPAIR (because I was a week outside the 30-day RMA from NewEgg), I got tired of waiting 3.5 weeks of repairing and bought the GA-Z87X-OC.

When I got it in, it couldn't boot to POST or even the splash screen. It would beep once and display a single underscore line at the top right position. Frozen. Not good.

But remember, this motherboard has the Dual BIOS feature which will help you if the primary/main BIOS gets corrupted. Amazingly, this motherboard had the Backup BIOS (where you switch to it via a tiny switch on the MB). I was able to boot to Windows and install the vF7 BIOS.

However, the primary BIOS was still unbootable. After speaking with Gigabyte's Tech Support, I was advised to reflash the BIOS again and then ask NewEgg for an RMA if unsuccessful. I will be sending this board back to NewEgg via RMA and hoping for a good replacement.

Additional notes:

- NewEgg's RMA process is excellent. But if you suspect an issue with your purchase, move fast and contact NewEgg promptly. My first mistake was to keep testing the other Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5H motherboard longer than 30 days.

- For Gigabyte's motherboards, I would think about an extended warranty. I got one.

- If you send your Gigabyte mb to them FOR REPAIR, it will take FOREVER to get a reply or a status. Expect them to take anywhere from 3 weeks (my case) to 6 weeks (another reviewer) to get it back. I couldn't wait so I bought another board (this one) which now has to be RMA'd. FML...

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Motherboard

Pros: this board is awesome it has tones of OC features. I have not messed with them yet but im itching to. I have this board running my Hackintosh/Win 7 machine and it does so beautifully. the Bios is really cool to.

Cons: I wish it would boot using my new logitech keyboard but for some reason it did not. i had to go fish out my old microsoft one.

2 out of 5 eggsNo Wonder Its Out of Stock

Pros: Looks great if its only function was for a decoration.
Seems to have a lot of options if I could actually use them.

Cons: I'm not sure if this was sent to me used as it looked like the seal on the static wrap had air bubbles in it. So, install was a breeze. I fire it up, it reads bios corrupted. It fixes the problem and reboots. Windows 7 crashed over and over again. Not what I would expect for gigabyte! I have built with this brand for years. This by far the worst board ever!

Other Thoughts: Stay away from this board!

1. Are you using IDE or AHCI mode for Windows?

2. Be sure the CPU temperature is within 45-50C.

3. Run "Memtest86" to diagnost each memory module, one at a time.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: You can turn on the system from a motherboard button.
OC bracket keep your card tight without case.
Bios profile and settings can be saved to a file.
Lot of fan headers.

Cons: Two pci, it would be better with two pcie x1 instead like the GA-Z87X-OC Force (which cost twice).

Other Thoughts: Can't find anywhere how much amp the fan header can deliver ?

5 out of 5 eggsBig Board of OPTIONS!!

Pros: The easiest board I've ever had the pleasure to overclock with.
The color scheme is quite sexy.
I also love how many USB ports there are, especially all the USB 3.0's!

Cons: Haven't run into any so far. But I'm positive when I do, GIGABYTE will lend me a helping hand. :)

Other Thoughts: Great board to start with if youre getting serious about overclocking. Even if you don't want to try to overclock just yet, it still comes with great stock features. The BIOS screen is wonderful. <3
