Embrace the new power within the Intel 4th Gen Core processor.

The GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-OC Force mobo is based on the latest Intel Z87 chipset. It's a great system foundation to take full advantage of the "Haswell" power and features in an LGA 1150 package. Aimed at gaming enthusiasts and extreme overclockers, this mobo comes equipped with a number of new and improved features for maximized performance and the most enjoyable OC experience, including industry-leading durable components, a full set of small gears for optimization and customization, and a user-friendly setup interface for easy tuning. And with supporting four-way SLI and Crossfire graphics configurations, and an incredible 16 digital phase VRM for the CPU and memory, the GIGABYTE Z87X-OC Force is truly peerless and utterly ruthless.

OC Ignition
here are occasions as an overclocker when you want to shut down the system without turning off the power to other parts of the system, for example the drives and system fans. This is where OC Ignition is really useful.

Hitting the OC Ignition button gives continuous, uninterrupted power to all the motherboard's connected drives and system fans, but not to the CPU. This is useful in 'cold bug' situations when you need to heat the CPU to a bootable temperature, but you'd prefer the fans to keep spinning, reducing moisture build-up.

Overclockers using i-ram drives may also want to maintain SATA power and not risk losing their customized OS install, while users with regular SSDs or HDDs also know that frequent powering on and off is harmful to your drives in the long-term.

OC Ignition is also useful in allowing users to pre-test water cooling setups, and even allows case mod demos to be developed without having to fully turn on the PC.

OC Ignition: Feature Summary
• Powers fans and drives without booting or powering the CPU
• Active fans help to reduce moisture build-up when using LN2
• Maintain continuous uninterrupted power to drives
• Safely powers water cooling systems for safe leak checking
• Test demo and case mod systems without needing to boot the system

OC PCIe Switch
Overclockers can manually turn on or off each installed PCIe lane of the motherboard, allowing users to effortlessly remove graphic cards from the system without the hassle of physically removal. This is especially convenient for VGA overclocking on LN2 and water cooled systems.
OC Peg adds auxiliary power to the PCIe slots of your motherboard, improving system stability in extreme configurations. This is especially useful in power-hungry four-way graphics configurations.
OC Brace
OC Brace allows extreme overclockers to safely install up to four graphics cards in an open case, without risking PCIe slot damage or preventing cards not showing up in the OS due to poor contact with the PCIe slot.

OC Brace is a simple and elegant way to give robust installation support to full sized graphics cards in extreme multi-GPU configurations. This includes LN2 benching with cumbersome GPU pots that a need stable, solid installation base over extended periods.

OC Cool

The GIGABYTE Z87X-OC Force Motherboard features an extreme heatsink design for the PWM area that allows users to employ both passive, active and water cooling setups. A hollow body heatsink, fitted with a silent integrated fan, ensures superb heat dissipation during extreme overclocking configurations.

Many of today's third-party water cooling systems require CPU fan power support for both the cooling fan and the water pump. GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards feature OPT fan support, an additional CPU fan pin header that can be used to connect a water pump, and configured for continuous full speed operation. The OPT Fan is also useful for high-performance coolers employing two fans.

Durable Black Solid Caps

GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards integrate the best-quality solid state capacitors that are rated to perform at maximum efficiency for extended periods, even in extreme performance configurations. This provides peace of mind for end users who want to push their system hard, yet demand absolute reliability and stability. With ultra-low ESR — no matter how high the CPU loading — these capacitors come in customized jet black, exclusively on GIGABYTE 8 series motherboards. ("Rated for an unprecedented 10,000 hours of intensive operation at an incredible 105°C" – Nippon Chemi-Con)

Gold-Plated Solid Power Connectors
GIGABYTE Overclocking motherboards feature gold-plated connectors for the CPU and 24-pin ATX power connectors. Gold provides superior conductivity and signal transmission than standard implementations. It also ensures far better reliability and stability over time, by its resistance to metal corrosion caused by frequent use.

Gold-Plated CPU Socket, DDR and PCI Express Slots

GIGABYTE 8 series motherboards come equipped with gold-plated hardware for the areas where your motherboard has contact with other components; a gold-plated CPU socket, gold DDR3 slots, and PCI Express slots. Using a gold-plated CPU socket and slots means that enthusiasts are guaranteed absolute reliability and longevity for the CPU, memory and graphics cards, no matter how many times you switch them out.

Extreme Multi-GPU Support

Premium four-way graphics support: this extreme design employs a PLX chip that doubles the available PCI Express bandwidth, allowing overclockers and gamers to enjoy the ultimate in extreme multi-GPU configurations, four-way AMD CrossFire and NVIDIA SLI.
Native PCIe Ge. 3 x16 Direct Link to CPU: The single black PCIe x16 slot provides a direct link to the CPU, enabling it to bypass the PLX chip. This provides the fastest possible connection for single graphics card benching.

Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 4.0 PCIe Expansion Card
Supports the latest IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, plus Bluetooth 4.0 and the latest Smart Ready technology.
Front-Access USB 3.0 Panel
A convenient front-access USB 3.0 panel provides two USB 3.0 ports for quick and easy access to ultra-fast and reliable data transfer performance.

1 out of 5 eggsSigh... I really tried

Pros: The board has great features and potential.

Cons: The board has not worked since I've received it. Newegg originally denied my return because I had already taken the UPC code off the box and mailed in for a $100 rebate that was being offered (purchase price was $399.49 at the time of purchase.) Gigabyte refused to do any sort of refund, so they took the board for RMA. The RMA process took 3-4 weeks. I received another board that was claimed to be tested the showed the same issues. I did another RMA on the board figuring it's just bad luck. They returned another board with the very same issue. So.... this time i thought maybe I was just being stupid and missing something little, even though I have successfully built many very high end gaming rigs, and spent HOURS combing every single small detail and setting I could imagine and the board just would not post. I took the entire pc to my local repair shop, we tried different components, rebuilt the machine twice, the 2 pc repair guys were just as stumped as I was... Sooo, I sent the board in again. I FINALLY received what I thought was a working board. Now, the computer is up and running, but I decided to add more RAM and a GPU to the system. (ready to start gaming again, never needed the gpu prior.) So I got into BIOS and started doing some reconfiguring when I noticed an issue. Only 1 stick of RAM is reading. and my GPU is operating worse than the intel hd 4600 internal gfx on my i7-4770k. (watercooled asus directcuii gtx 780) and I'm pulling 40fps. Tried this card in my fiances pc, im pulling 200 fps on average.

Other Thoughts: I really tried, I fell in love with this board after months of research and I loved the theme. On paper it was the best board on the market at the DOP. I really had high hopes for gigabyte. I'm just ready to throw this board in the trash and go ahead with a z97 board... Very Very Very sad customer.

5 out of 5 eggsBest LGA1150 Board Available

Pros: Quality is on a whole new level with this board. Very sturdy PCB that doesn't crackle like some cheaper boards do. Ability to run a single GPU directly off the CPU is ingenious. Quad SLI capable. A myriad of OC buttons and switches. Ability to switch off PCIe x16 lanes to remove a GPU from the system without physical removal. 10 SATA3 6GB/s ports. OC brace for holding graphics cards while bench testing. Large chipset heatsinks with a fan on the Northbridge and Power MOSFETs. Orange accented components add to the beauty of this board. Extremely stable while overclocking. Includes a PCIe x1 Wi-Fi & Bluetooth card.

Cons: Running a graphics card in the black slot (Direct to CPU) doesn't improve performance enough to be justified as doing so will also shut off all remaining PCIe x16 slots. BIOS can be quite confusing to those not very tech savvy. PCIe x1 Wi-Fi & Bluetooth card require the included USB internal extension to actually use the Bluetooth.

Other Thoughts: This is the only Intel board available with this many features and quality in comparison to previous and newer boards of the same price range. This is about as close as it gets to a perfect board. There is a reason why Gigabyte is so well known and this board is proof.

5 out of 5 eggsNice motherboard!

Pros: A very high quality board from a good company with a rep that includes most everything you would need on a motherboard. No issues with bent pins or any signs of warping. The current price on this board makes it somewhat affordable.

Cons: Not really a con, but the firmware was at F7 and I had purchased an Intel i7-4790 for this board. Support for the 4790 was at bios F8. I had to remove my g3220 cpu from my other system, boot up this board on the g3220 then update the bios to F8 and switch CPU's. After the bios update to F8, the 4790 was recognized by the board.

Other Thoughts: I went with Corsair Platinum (1866) 16gb memory. The board defaulted to 1333 of which I was able to adjust to 1866. This board is solid, no bsods or surprises. Not interested in water cooling so I'm satisfied with the thermal design of the board. At the current price of this board, If your looking at this motherboard you should highly consider it.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: The PLX chip[ is great for multiple Graphics Cards. I really like being able to turn on and off the PCIe slots as well. I like the fact you can bypass the PLX chip if you only want to run/bench a single card in the dedicated PCIe Slot. Good OC abilities for memory and CPU. Temps are good overall. Easy to clean/maintain. Has many features for OCers. I am not an OCer by nature but decided to get this board to learn how to OC like a "PRO" So far I have learned a ton and this board has dealt with my lack of knowledge and not skipped a beat. I mostly game and while there are cheaper board for gaming and cheaper for strictly OCing there are not many that do both well.

Cons: Price being the biggest. I paid $330.00 out the door at Micro Center. $400.00 is way to much. A good price point for this board is 269.99 to $299.99 Which now it has aged some it has come down. It never caught on like it's little brother though, and for many it makes the best choice over all. The Z87oc and the New Z97Oc Force.

Other Thoughts: i4770k @ 4.6 24/7 on air
3 evga 660ti in SLI(waiting on maxwell)
4 ssd
3 hd
2 blu ray burners
cooler master v1000(excellent) ps supply
16 gig corsair vengeance pro may add another 16 soon
Doubt we will see a board this feature rich again from Gigabyte as this board did not sell well. I planb on keeping this board for as long as I can. I am hoping that Broadwell will work on the Z87 chips with a bios update. SInce the Z97 and Z87 have little difference I see no reason to upgrade this awesome MB

1 out of 5 eggsMotherboard fan going bad after 3 months

Pros: lots of options, lots of ports, latest tech.

Cons: Came back to note that one of the two fans that are embedded into the watercooled heatsink is now creating a loud grinding noise. The bearing is clearly beginning to fail. So not only was my motherboard warped due to a terrible design flaw, but the pathetic watercooling system now has a fan that bites the dust in under 3 months of casual use.

Other Thoughts: I'm now giving up on this motherboard and looking for a replacement.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, except where it isn't

Pros: It overclocks decently, has features and controls up the wazoo. Ubuntu runs on it without oddities happening. Build quality is solid, and the WI-FI/BT card it comes with is PCIE, not mini, which is good becuase it lives elsewhere now. Everything a bonkers overclocker wants or needs. Used in a full water-cooled setup with delidded 4770K. By-passable PLX.

Cons: The BIOS is good, but it took a couple updates for OCs to become stable and its capabilities be on par with it's little brother, the Z87 OC (I also own that.)

The reason I dropped two eggs: stock VRM/PLX heatsink reeks of value-add rubbish. If you are not watercooling the board chips then it's decent- but DO NOT try to hook the stock VRM sink to the water loop. Mine had a pinhole leak. (Thankfully, it was a cold test of the loop- I'd already ordered an aftermarket board block.) If you want to water cool your VRMs and PLX, you'll have to get a real water block anyway, so do not use that as a deciding factor. Even if it didn't leak, it's a one piece unit- the fittings are not replaceable.

There was no need to RMA since I had already planned to replace that part. But I'd still strongly suggest considering those fittings to be showpieces. If you're going to put it on, might as well do it right.

Other Thoughts: After I put a proper waterblock on, it worked nicely. After some BIOS updates, it OC'd perfectly.

But if you don't need a PLX chip and feel you can do without some of those power phases, you might as well get this board's little brother (Z87 OC.) Aftermarket water blocks are made for that one too.

If you are not planning to include the VRMs/PLX in your water loop, then the stock sink is actually pretty good. Gigabyte just shouldn't have bothered with the fittings- I might have only dropped one egg then.

2 out of 5 eggsWarped

Pros: Everything I've seen about it seemed great, but I have yet to receive all my hardware so consider this a pre-review.

Cons: Mine also came warped. As another reviewer said this is a design flaw. There are no backplates for the heatsinks, yet I see them on competitors cheaper boards with much smaller heatsinks. You don't see huge CPU coolers coming from the likes of noctua, or almost any aftermarket heatsink manufacturer, coming without a backplate. For $400 it won't eat into the profit margin that much to include a hunk of metal and rubber(keep it from shorting of course) that will protect it from warping and damaging the board. If anything doing that might save on returned products or possible damage caused by such a flaw. Another point to be made about this is that even contact will not be made with the heatsink, and therefore it will not properly dissipate heat. It doesn't matter if you tote "Ultra Durable" if the PCB is still able to be warped with the stock heatsink no less.

This is my first gigabyte product, and so far before even using the thing I'm rather disappointed. Until this problem is fixed I can't recommend gigabyte products to anyone I know.

Other Thoughts: If it works ok, and doesn't seem to cause issues I'll probably comeback for a full review, but I will not look over something this simple that should have been caught early on. And I won't be able to give it more than 3 eggs for such a mistake. Consider 2 eggs to be generous right now.

1 out of 5 eggsWarped motherboard caused by design flaw

Pros: Tons of ports. USB 3 everywhere. Two HDMI and one display port for onboard Intel HD graphics. Tons of rare features for overclocking and messing around with your system. Toggle switches for the PCI ports, toggle bios between two chips...this thing is fully loaded with tricks out the wazzoo. Obviously I wanted the best, unfortunately that's not what I received.

Cons: Board arrived from the manufacturer warped. Because of the warping, the motherboard does not align correctly with the backplate. The PS2 connector and USB 3.0 ports on that column are inacessible due to the warping pushing them up of alignment. I didn't believe it at first, but after confirming the warp against a straightedge, it's definitely warped enough to cause issues.

The sad part is after investigating how it might have become warped, I discovered the warping is most likely due to the pressure put on the motherboard by the sadly designed water-cooled heat sinks. As others have mentioned, the water cooling gimmicks of this board seem like a great idea but were horribly executed. I would say Gigabyte has probably damaged the whole fleet of motherboards if they used this same design across all boards.

The water-cooled heat sink nearest the warped area is about six inches long, but they've only secured the heat sink at the ends of this six inch span - meaning any pressure exerted in the middle of this span will bow the motherboard out away from the heat sink - and "voila" a warped motherboard. This extra bowing pressure is caused by a super thick heat-transfer tape which is sandwiched between the heat sink and the chain of chips underneath.

Unfortunately, you can't just loosen the heatsink screws and try to correct the problem, because they use spring-loaded screws which will apply constant pressure no matter how loose they are.

When you spend this much money on a motherboard you expect it to be perfect in every detail. Huge fail Gigabyte. Huge fail.

3 out of 5 eggsI had to buy but you shouldn't!

Pros: It is compatible with Hackintosh and pretty much only Gigabyte boards are.
Every other PRO is also a PRO on several other companies boards. EVERY SINGLE PRO that I can think of is on the competing ASUS board and if you are not going to run more than (2) cards in SLI or Cross-Fire then you can get the ASRock board for a lot less.

Gigabyte has something against PWM fan technology. My guess is that since most people don't know how important it is that Gigabyte is considering everyone to be uninformed and they are. It is a good way to cut corners!

For water-coolers THIS IS NOT THE BOARD FOR YOU!

PWM is a must on multiple channels but that isn't the biggest issue.

The "water-block" is useless. You can not safely secure tubing to the tiny little nubs they call barbs. The ASRock barbs are bad too but they are usable. These are not. The ASUS has the best water-block hands down.

Most importantly for water-coolers though is that the ASUS has the PWM channels you need AND it has the ability to plug an inline water temp sensor into the board. This will allow you to run your radiator fans off the water temperature which is the only proper way to control the fans in a water-cooling rig. Since your CPU temp goes up and down wildly and your GPUs can increase the water temp and then also because when your CPU is done working the water is still hot so the fans need to stay running.

So if you buy this board and are water-cooling be prepared to drop more cash on either the Corsair Link (which is pretty shoddy) or the Aquacomputer Aquaero 6 (which is pretty expensive)

Other Thoughts: If you are not sure whether this board is for you then the answer is NO IT IS NOT FOR YOU! If you are not building a Hackintosh or cooling with Liquid Nitrogen, Phase Change, or Dry Ice then this board is NOT for you.

THE ONLY reason I bough this board is because I always buy $200-300 boards and with the $100 MIR this board had it was a no-brainer over the lesser expensive version of the board.
