5 out of 5 eggsLess is more! Powerful motherboard for gamers who want only what is necessary.

Pros: -Lots of sockets for decent expansion and fewer sockets I would never use.
-Expansive BIOS with lots of tweaking options.
-4 fan sockets for all my fans. I am a happy camper.
-USB 3.0 20-pin slot for a case and 2 regular ports on the back.
-Inexpensive for a 970 chipset board!
-Also, 970 chipset. Need I say more?
-My mother and father use this computer as well and have said they noticed a difference in performance from our last board which was about $25 less.

Cons: The following are moot points:
-The 4-pin PSU connector cable is just short of reaching the motherboard power socket. It's worth noting that my PSU is a few years old.
-There are no video output sockets on the motherboard, but there are on my graphics card.

Other Thoughts: -It may be a personal preference but I really like the fact that the board has no video outputs. From my time searching for and looking at several boards, it seems the more sockets there are, the more expensive the board. With the two PCIe slots and the missing outputs, I believe this board is ideal for gamers who want to pick out their own GPU (or GPUs if using SLI). If anyone is planning on using this board with one GPU, make sure to have a backup just in case.
-I mentioned that the power socket is in a difficult-to-reach place for my PSU cable on the board. This is a PSU issue but I feel like mentioning it because the power socket on a similar GIGABYTE board I looked at is in the middle of the board which is much easier to reach. I've been meaning to get an extension cable anyway, but it's one of those little things that can be a hassle. It may just be that the spot is an ideal location for this particular board and wouldn't work anywhere else too, and I'm okay with either.
-The board is long for a mid-tower case. It fits snugly inside my Orange DIYPC case, just enough so that the USB and audio cables for the case are pressing against the power supply. Nothing serious like cable pinching, just had to take extra care that all the cables were situated before the motherboard was in place. It all fits quite nicely.
-I would definitely recommend this board to my gamer friends. It isn't over-the-top (honestly, who needs more than 16gb of RAM?), doesn't require a beefy power supply, keeps itself very cool all the time, and still packs a punch.

-IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: The main HDD I have uses an older SATA format. The BIOS default is set to AHCI. I spent a little less than an hour wondering why my HDD wouldn't boot past the Windows logo figuring that out. If you have the same problem, check under "Peripherals" in the BIOS and change the format to "Native IDE".

3 out of 5 eggsGood and Also Not Good

Pros: Worked great, easy to setup, very clear manual.

Cons: Died after 1 year of heavy use. Great while it lasted though.

Other Thoughts: This mobo is somewhat cheap and flimsy and like I said, died after a year. I can't really recommend you by this mobo for long term use but if you plan on upgrading soon it's a great temporary board.

5 out of 5 eggsStandard Gigabyte Board

Pros: Typical straight forward setup, well laid out design, and has everything the average user and low level gamer would want. Built several machines with this board always solid.

Cons: For $70 not too much to complain about. Wish it had a couple more sata ports, but that's nothing a raid card won't fix.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this board for a cheap 'o gamer. Like I said it has everything you want plus extras. From the other reviews I read the ones that died after a couple of days were installed or wired improperly. This board is good for the price. Just be realistic, is it the greatest board ever? No, but it serves its purpose. I use this one personally for a media server in my house. I paired it with a FX 6350 six core and 16gb of ram. It works great. I have built 3-4 gaming machines with it and everyone who bought one was more than pleased. So in short I would recommend it.

3 out of 5 eggsThis item is okay. The rebate process is unwieldy.

Pros: - Looks good
- Seems well constructed
- Has overclocking options

Cons: - Uses a 4-pin PWM CPU fan controller, but has no support for 3-pin CPU fan control

Other Thoughts: - The rebate process is a joke. I sit in all the required information almost immediately, and it took weeks for them to deny my request because the address I wanted the rebate sent to was not the same as my invoice request. They want me to resubmit all the same information they already have with the invoice address which they already have so they can send it to that same address. That's a runaround. Very disappointed.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked for a few days...

Pros: -Budget Board
-Looks good
-Runs everything well

Cons: -Sensitive
-Died after 5 days

I was working on my PC and needed to plug some headphones in, so I plugged my headphones on my front panel and right when I plugged it into my headphone jack it shut off. It's no longer posting and it's fried.

1 out of 5 eggsHas 64 Bit issues with Linux with NIC and USB

Pros: Cheap Price

Cons: Found out that this rev 2.0 board with FC latest Bios has an issue with 64 bit linux. Clean install of OS 64 but Linux will not allow USB or NIC to work. You MUST enable IOMMU in bios to get NIC to work, THEN USB3 does not work. And NIC does not work all the time, NIC works some of the time and when it does it will freeze on you. Do a search for GA-970a-d3sp and 64 Bit Linux and you will see. 32 bit linux seems unaffected.

Other Thoughts: Do your research people.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Motherboard So Far

Pros: Nice looking design.

Supports AM3+ CPUs up to 125W.

Isolated audio circuit reduces noise.

BIOS is easy to navigate and use.

Dual-BIOS means fewer worries from failures while flashing a BIOS update.

POSTed on very first try, booted on first runup once OS was installed on SSD.

Still has PS/2 ports for legacy keyboard & mouse.

Cons: Second PCIe x16 slot only runs at x4 speed. Not a concern if only running a single GPU.

Some of the BIOS terminology is not quite typical of what is usually encountered.

No PATA (IDE) header.

Only 8 rear USB ports (and only 2 of those are USB 3.0)

Other Thoughts: So far, this has been a good motherboard, only time will tell regarding durability. Install and setup was very typical of other builds, no real surprises, and no failures thus far.
