1 out of 5 eggsNot recommended

Pros: It came in a combo with a pretty good processor. Thankfully the CPU seems to work perfectly.. this board, not so much.

Cons: After replacing or thoroughly testing every other component, the only conclusion is that this board is a dud. If you're looking for a gaming board, look elsewhere, this thing will go into a bizarre shut-down like state after a random amount of time while gaming. Sometimes you get a few hours, sometimes just a few minutes.

The audio also quit working after less than 2 months. Gigabyte's esupport site still hasn't touched my ticket after 5 days, and the support link from the product page's warranty tab goes to a dead link.

Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for a motherboard. Looks like this is a total loss and I'm ordering a different board to save my build.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review.

Pros: Cheap with lots of great features.

Cons: Possibly none - see below.
I returned the item twice, and chose a refund the second time, but my issue may have actually been with the 2 Logisys power supplies purchased at the same time, both of which were confirmed (100%) defective (1-failed bench test, 2-broken switch).

Other Thoughts: PC trouble-shooting is mostly a process of elimination. If 2 new power supplies won't power up a motherboard, one doesn't usually assume both supplies are dead - mobos are more likely to fail than pwr splys. Besides that, the behavior of powering down randomly seemed more likely the mobo than the pwr sply, in my experience. I gave this review 4 eggs to counter my previous negative one.

1 out of 5 eggs2 dead boards in a row.

Pros: Cheap with lots of great features. It would be fine, if it worked.

Cons: 2 dead boards in a row - yes, really.
- 1st one died within 24 hrs - suddenly powered off, then wouldn't come back on.
- I had to wait nearly a month for a replacement.
- 2nd one ALSO died within 24 hrs - same problem.

Other Thoughts: NOT recommended.

I had to contact NewEgg directly to get the 2nd RMA, since over 30 days had passed since purchase - but they did so without a fight and gave me a full refund.

I decided to take a refund instead of a replacement since 2 dead boards in a row is a very bad omen - perhaps a bad batch from the factory.

What a huge pain!

2 out of 5 eggsUnstable MB

Pros: Loaded with great features.

Cons: Machine will just freeze at random times. Tried different SSD, video card and memory. Also tried different versions of Windows but the system is not stable and will freeze. I have to power it off to get access.

3 out of 5 eggsTricky Linux board

Pros: Great price, support for unlocked FX chips (including the 8-cores), good build quality.

Cons: Very tricky to get Linux working. I just couldn't get Ubuntu 15.04 64-bit to boot off a USB stick. Had better luck with 14.04 LTS 64-bit. What finally worked was:

1. Enable IOMMU controller in BIOS
2. In grub, use "e" to edit the Linux boot command line.
3. After "quiet", add the following options: "amd_iommu=on iommu=soft". If you Google, you'll see all kinds of variations for those flags and the BIOS setting. Sometimes some would work, but then Ubuntu would freeze. Other times, network and USB would be completely dead. This was the combination that finally worked for 14.10 LTS 64-bit that actually seems to work and be stable.

Other Thoughts: Linux support definitely needs to be improved. Good board otherwise.

4 out of 5 eggsGood entry level chipset

Pros: It is pretty good for a first pc, but you'll definitely get the itch to upgrade later. Handled everything I put on it pretty well and OC'd my CPU very nicely. My NIC went out after a while (just under a year) but I was wanting to upgrade anyway.

Cons: It didn't line up with the pegs on my case so it didn't have as much support. The bios isn't as user friendly, but as an entry level board it's not a surprise.

1 out of 5 eggsGIGABYTE GA-970A-D3P

Pros: Great Features
Great layout of the board

Cons: DOA Twice
Could never get it to post nor get the beeps when it tries to post. All fans (8 of them) would operate DVD and Hard drives just no video and no post, even the fans on the video card would run but never any signal

Other Thoughts: The first one I purchased was never able to boot nor would it give any attempt to post, no beeps. Everything would run but no video and it just wouldn't post. All hardware worked great I bought this to upgrade from an ASRock MB but I RMA the MB and Newegg sent me another within a week. I put the new one together and got the same results. So I then purchased another 970 brand ASUS and put it together with same hardware and it booted up on first attempt with zero issues When I did receive the second board I found in the bottom of the box an extra I/O plate that belong to another type of MB and it was unsealed so I really wonder what kind of MB I received the second time, maybe someone else's problem. These MB packages should come sealed so you know that it hasn't been tampered with but because of the really bad deal I will never purchase another Gigabyte MB again. I have built many Desktop PC's over the years and this is the worst experience I have ever endured.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the fastest motherboards ever to setup

Pros: i have not made a computer in over 4 years and there is no question that todays motherboards are a cake walk to setup and this Gigabyte motherboard is no exception. So far i can find nothing wrong with this board. Cost is another factor to because ten years ago a board like this quality would cost welll over one hundred and twenty five dollars. Do not be fooled buy reviews who clam that you need a 990 chip set to over clock your processor. I could over clock mine much higher but i am happy with backing it off a few notches. Also i am having no over heating issues. Outstanding board.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Great board for an old guy who has not built a computer in over four years.

5 out of 5 eggspretty good board, no problems at all

Pros: Really good audio quality.
Everything works good.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've had this board for almost a week and had no issues. I see that some people have, well almost every motherboard on newegg I looked at had bad reviews. So I took a chance and am happy with my purchase :)
