1 out of 5 eggsWhy so Sad...

Pros: none

Cons: Can not install Windows 8.1 64-bit for the life of me.
It starts and then freezes before Windows Setup screen.
Tried from disk, made rufus usb, UEFI mode Lagacy mode.
Downloaded Windows 10 TP and no problem with install.
Would like to use a full OS and not a tester. Looked online and seems to be a problem with this board, and no solutio., should have came with a step by step bios setup and Windows install guide.

Other Thoughts: Will not buy Gigabyte product again. Unless I can/they can tell me how to simply install Windows 8.1 64-bit onto a motherboard, when it should be just that simple.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked the first time

Pros: Build:
win 8.1
G.Skill ddr3-1833 2x4gb ram
AMD FX-8350 vishera black
XFX r9 290a gpu
Corsair CX 750m
Samsung 850 evo 250gb SSD
Enthoo pro case
Asus basic cd/rw
Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO

This was my first actual start to finish build. To my absolute surprise, it booted up on the first try, no issues whatsoever. Have been using for ~1 month so far with no issues. All components interacting fine.

Cons: I/O shield a little flimsy, instructions were....lacking - easy fixes, though. Silk screen on the board itself was a little confusing, at least with the front panel connectors, but I'd probably attribute this more to my inexperience than their design.

Other Thoughts: Thor help me if it blows up after writing this.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Motherboard for Price!

Pros: 4x USB 3.0 ports (2 front, 2 back)

1 pci-e 16x (Future proofing for those BIG GPU guys)

Just barely fit my ATX case. Board came down JUST ABOVE PSU unit at the bottom. Color-coded DIMM slots so you know where to insert 2 ram chips without questioning it. It says "Extra Durable" all over this product but with good intention. Even with 6 screws mounting this thing I still had to press pretty hard when I added the main power wires, ram, GPU etc. No I didn't bend or break the motherboard!! Only issue so far I've had is this board only has 2 places to add system fans (3 pin) and 1 pwr fan. That means you can only add 3 fans unless you buy molex adapters and daisy chain them together. My case came with 1 fan so I still have 4 running strong!

Cons: No cons to speak of! This thing is holding up very well.

1 out of 5 eggsWill not post

Pros: None, could not get this board to post with components known to be working.

Cons: DOA, this still happens? I thought this was a thing of the past.

Other Thoughts: Not wasting time troubleshooting a dead board. RMAing this one ASAP.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard! Few issues

Pros: Fantastic gaming board and perfect for what I needed. Right out of the box it was easy to install, everything fit perfectly and it was pretty simple for a new timer builder.

Cons: Unfortunately the onboard ethernet wasn't working, apparently it's a known issue with the adapter. Just fyi, didn't see any reviews on here that said it. Had to buy a new PCI card but it fit easily and pretty cheap so I'm not to frustrated with it.

4 out of 5 eggsIt wants 5 eggs so bad!

Pros: Great price for a budget 970 gaming board. No serious issues with installation.

Cons: Top right corner screw hole was not drilled out. Surprising since that's where you put all the pressure on the board while installing the power cord and RAM. -1 to quality control for that one.

I have ZERO control over CPU fan speed. In the BIOS, in Windows, nothing will change the speed from 1800 RPM. "Normal" and "Silent" are the options. My older, 785 biostar at least would run a test on the CPU fan and let you adjust. Pretty sad a MUCH NEWER board cant do that.

Last but not least. Annoying. I have the Crucial ballistix tracer memory sticks with programmable LED lights on top. Depending on how hard the computer works, the lights will flash faster or slower. Really handy when diagnosing a hang up. Anyway, when clocking my memory from 1333 to the 1600 that its supposed to be, I lost my LED lights in RAM slot 0. Switching the RAM sticks verified its only the first slot. Turning the speed back down to 1333 allows the lights to work again. Tried turning up voltage from 1.5 to 1.65 (which is what the old tracers used to run) also did nothing.

Have to say I'm really bummed out over it. Ive been using these memory modules for a couple years now and absolutely love them! Without the activity LEDs it loses all its awesomeness. :(

Other Thoughts: I got this board on sale, knowing they will soon be extinct with the release of USB 3.1 and DDR4. The cons don't seem to be enough for me to want to RMA the board, but just once, I'd like to get a MOBO that works 100% as advertised. Ill probably be installing a fan speed controller (there goes the 15 bux i saved) and will just have to decide between LEDs or performance on my memory. :( :(

2 out of 5 eggsWindows 8 drivers wouldn't work

Pros: Fine motherboard; everything works fine other than Windows 8. Looks pretty good, too.

Cons: It said there was something wrong with the Windows 8 driver. After installing probably around 15 different drivers, I tried downloading Windows 7 with the driver it said to use and it worked fine. It said in the manual to set up a raid configuration but I only have one hard drive. Even then I don't see how having a raid config would do anything to the drivers.

5 out of 5 eggs//////////excellent

Pros: everything

Cons: only con is the upstep in the 8 core fx 8320 but that can be changed in bios

Other Thoughts: honestly out of the box this could handle what I had and the asus m599x evo was having issues recognizing my vishera 8core. so im happy this ga 970a got me up and running in no time
