4 out of 5 eggsSupports RAID, Xeon Processor and EVGA GeForce GTX 960

Pros: Specs on motherboard great - RAID, Intel vPro, Xeon processor

Worked with my Intel Xeon CPU E3-1246 v3 @ 3.50 GHz processor, EVGA GeForce GTX 960 video card and RAID setup. Very Important! Need to use UEFI with CSM setting in the BIOS for Windows 8. When I used the Legacy boot option, video card didn't work. Also $130 motherboard price is very reasonable.

Cons: Update - only forum support only (unless I live in China then I guess I can call their number) - deduct 1 egg. EVGA motherboards offer 24 hr phone support.

Other Thoughts: Correction 22 Feb 2016 - got it working with BIOS setting, CSM with UEFI for Windows 8 (I had it on Legacy mode). I contacted EVGA support about the video card and they solved the problem (excellent phone tech support 24hrs a day). Gigabyte tech support is an online forum and get a response by next day, like "try using another process" or "try using another video card". I found Gigabyte tech support frustrating. On my next build I will purchase EVGA Z170 FTW motherboard along with Intel i7 6700 process (supports Intel AMT and vPro) instead of Gigabyte and Xeon processor. I love EVGA phone tech support.

3 out of 5 eggsNice but flawed by BIOS

Pros: Has the exact combination of PCIe/PCI slots I needed in mATX form factor to fit my HTPC case.

Cons: WakeOnLAN is horribly broken -- machine wakes up immediately after shutdown even without a LAN cable connected. No workaround found yet, other than completely disabling it in the BIOS.

BIOS has menu settings for AMT BIOS extensions, but no information on how to activate or deactivate the AMT. And the menu settings vanish mysteriously after first view.

No built-in "flash BIOS update from a USB stick" functionality. Nearly all other GigaByte mobos include it, but not this one.

Other Thoughts: Well constructed, excellent selection of ports and connectors, fast booting. Lack of functional WakeOnLAN is a dealbreaker though.

3 out of 5 eggsWorking so far but no XP support

Pros: I am setting up a Windows 7 64-bit system and so far it is working well in that environment. No problems or issues!

Gigabyte support is great - they respond promptly, accurately and directly to the point. No "try this, try that, format the other, start over" from them!

Cons: No firewire/1394 (which is clear from the specifications - no complaints or egg removal for this and I assume I can add this if I need it.)

There is no XP support - no drivers and it simply won't work in XP. I know Microsoft discontinues support in 2014, but there are still plenty of XP systems around and it is not dead yet!

The specs do not clearly state it works only in Windows 7 and 8, you have to dig pretty deep into the manual or Gigabyte's website to find this out.

Had I realized there was no XP support, I would have bought a different motherboard, but I guess I'm stuck as I bought memory and processor to go with it.

Newegg really should include this in the specs.

2 eggs are removed for lack of XP support and it not being clear in a pre-purchase situation.

Other Thoughts: Will be using both for business and hobby (video and audio recording and editing).

It is early days and I am still setting up. Will post later if anything significant changes.
