Deploy Fleets of Remote Workstations

Although this model is suitable for tower workstation builds, the placement of its components and its airflow design has been optimized for rack integration. The critical computing resources of CAD/CAE teams within a large organization can be centralized in a way where maintenance and management can be scaled and made more convenient. With a quad LAN solution and a remote management controller, the GA-6PXSV4 is ready for computing intensive applications in virtualized environments.

Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-1600 V2 & E5-2600 V2 Product Families

Deployable through a simple BIOS update, the support of Intel Xeon processors E5-1600 V2 & 2600 V2 product families delivers the benefits of the 22nm tri-gate process technology to the high end server industry. Those benefits include, among others, higher frequencies, higher core counts (up to 12 cores / 24 threads) and larger last-level caches, but especially a much more varied mix of core/frequencies with notably the introduction of a new dual-socket workstation segment. This new die shrink also allows for overall energy efficiency increase, with up to 30% average decrease in idle power consumption.

Finally, virtualization applications will benefit from increased performance thanks to the Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller (APIC) technology, and more security features are included in the mix as well, such as the Intel® Platform Protection Technology with OS Guard, and Intel® Data Protection Technology with Secure Key.

Faster Memory, With GIGABYTE Only

Always eager to go beyond the industry standards, GIGABYTE's engineering has enabled through its capabilities in design, PCB layout and BIOS fine-tuning the support of 1866 MHz memory frequency running at higher DIMM population (eight DIMMs per socket) where Intel's standard and the rest of the market's products will typically operate memory speed downgrade and support 1866 MHz at lower DIMM population only (four DIMMs per socket). GIGABYTE therefore offers at launch on its 2011 socket based products this unique feature which will benefit to high density and memory intensive applications, such as high frequency trading, telecommunication networks, mobile data transfers, and so on.

13-128-644

Three-Way GPU Support

With three PCI-Express x16 Generation 3.0 slots supporting three-way NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX modes, this motherboard can receive a trio of GPUs working together to deliver ultra-smooth and accelerated utilization of CAD/CAE and content creation applications. The GA-6PXSV4 can therefore deliver improved workflow, speed-up production, and ultimately strengthen the increasingly pressured capability of design houses to deliver their work in short periods of time.

Digital Power Control

The GA-6PXSV4 includes GIGABYTE's digital PWM controllers, guaranteeing a dynamic power supply to the processor and memory with an ultra-fast response time. Built with advanced calibration tools, they allow to get the purest and most efficient electrical supply to date. When the CPU workload varies in function of the applications running, the Intel Turbo Boost Technology will do a dynamic overclock of the CPU cores. This is where the digital PWMs outshine the previous analog solutions. This way the CPU operations are much more stable, and the overall reliability of the system is greatly improved.

13-128-644

SAS 3Gbs Onboard

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the ESXi Host MB for size and ports

Pros: I am using this to run ESXi 6.x. This MB has a lot of power on a compact size for my home lab. Currently running 3 of these with 256GB of RAM each. I boot of a usb key that is attached to the port on the broad. Find this very handy.

For all the people complaining about CPU Coolers. Do you even know what you are doing? If you go look the specs up it clearly states which coolers are recommended for this MB. Its a narrow type. If you don't know what this is or how to find this info you should not be building your own servers!

Cons: None for me so far!

Other Thoughts: One of the board had two bad dimm slots. But was super easy to return to the egg.

5 out of 5 eggsHeatsink Cooler Options

Pros: Nice Atx Server MotherBoard. Has alot of features and can support over 200Gb DDR3 Memory. Has a ton of usb 3 ports and 4x ethernet ports like the other user had mentioned. Many people seem to be having issues with the heatsink. The cooler master T4 will not work. The cooler master evo will work because the bracket is adjustable. However i would recommend Item#: N82E16835608043. This will work perfectly with this motherboard. good luck to all :)

Cons: no onboard sound even though i wouldn't use it. But sill it would be nice if it had it. Also the diagram it show sit has a motherboard layout paper however mine did not come with it and did not come with the motherboard dvd,

5 out of 5 eggsHeatsink

Pros: Amazing board and lots of features. I see a lot of people are having issues with the cooling. I just purchased another one of these boards. The heatsink needed for this board is a 2011 narrow type cooler or a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. u can narrow the bracket since its adjustable and make it fit. Im sorry it wasn't the Hyper T4. But it was Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo instead. Take a look and give it a try. 100% sure it will work if u adjust the top bracket. Good luck :)

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggswow just wow

Pros: Amazingly easy to setup and install. Lol @ all the people who can't find a heat sink to fit this motherboard. Please stay away from server boards if you do not know what you are doing.

Cooler Master Hyper T4 Heat sink works perfectly fine on this board if you cant afford a server CPU heat sink. N82E16835103182 . Do some research on narrow socket coolers. The Cooler Master fits perfectly and we've been using it for over 4 months now.

I rarely post reviews about items. But seeing a motherboard being rated down because people cant find a heat sink does not make sense....

Cons: None what so ever for the board. It's a very nice board. Has a ton of good features.

Gigabyte support is useless though. Mine did not come with the drivers disc. Gigabyte support took 14 days to send me one. Luckily i was able to get everything online.

4 out of 5 eggsMuch power crammed in a small space.

Pros: Large amount of memory & Ivy Bridge E5 support in a regular ATX form factor. Tolerant of all types of memory I tried. Crossfire works without issue. Plenty of USB 3 ports including front USB 3 headers, 4xGB networking. Lots of ECC memory tuning options. Red Hat certified but I am using Windows 8.1, Fedora 20 & OSX 10.9. The arrangement of the ram improved the airflow overall in tight watercooled case.

Cons: One hole from the standard ATX has been covered by ram slots which required me to break off a post from my case. The ram clips are flimsy and the A1 A2 slots you must remove the power connector to insert the ram. There is no onboard sound even though this is a workstation board, but I was planning to disable it anyway. Would be nice if it had one more dedicated PCIe x8 slot.

Other Thoughts: The cpu socket uses the Narrow ILM standard 56mm x 94mm which is ordinary for servers. I am using a watercooler set up and I had to buy a Narrow ILM bracket for an EK Supremacy cpu block, that works with no problems.

I had trouble getting Windows 7 to install drivers correctly, but Windows 8.1 worked with no issues at all.

5 out of 5 eggsHeatshink

Pros: N/A

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: All these guys rating themselves at a high tech knowledge need to research. This uses a NARROW socket 2011. If you down rate a server product because your consumer grade heat sink won't fit, you need to stay away from servers. The narrow socket is generally used for 1U/2U form factor cases. There is nothing wrong with this motherboard.

1 out of 5 eggsA puzzle wrapped in an enigma

Pros: irrelevant, the cons override any potential pros.

Cons: apparently there is no known cpu heatsink that can be used with this motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I had just added this item to a wishlist I was putting together around building multi-GPU render boxes when I noticed the one star reviews. Felt it was only proper to add another voice to those of us hoping for an actual usable product. Gigabyte, please provide actual usable details. I want to build computers, not solve (very expensive) puzzles.

1 out of 5 eggsPlease include cooler model numbers

Pros: Might be ok.

Cons: Needs a non-standard CPU cooler.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte's manufacturer response about the custom CPU cooler was pretty useless. Instead of asking the customer to contact support via phone, how about just put some CPU cooler brands and model numbers that would work?

I was looking at purchasing this item but I'm not going to waste my time researching CPU coolers. Include model numbers and maybe I'll take another look.

1 out of 5 eggsRequires nonstandard CPU heat sink

Pros: Has a lot of features. Only other ATX server motherboard with 2 PCIe Gen. 3 x16 slots is the ASUS Z9PA-U8

Cons: Requires nonstandard CPU heat sink, so it's unusable until such time as we figure out what kind of heat sink to get - neither newegg.com nor Gigabyte's website nor even the manual mentions anything about a special heat sink being required.

Other Thoughts: Anyone know what brand/model CPU heat sink fits this motherboard? We have several different Cooler Master CPU heat sinks that work on other consumer and server socket 2011 motherboards in our lab with the same CPU that we installed on this Gigabyte motherboard, but none of these heat sinks fits this motherboard.
