1 out of 5 eggs2nd Review

Pros: It functions. There are a lot of USB ports on the back and many more headers on the inside. It has a cool colour scheme. Lots of SATA ports. Good chipset.

Cons: Even though there are really nice pros stated above, it is not worth it. The experience with the board is absolutely terrible. First of all, the UEFI/BIOS is absolutely garbage. Almost unusable. Want to overclock? Have fun trying to figure out how to change anything from "AUTOMATIC" mode to actually tinker with it. Not to mention that the "descriptions" for some of the settings have typos and 90% of the time are just "Toggles this feature" so you better know what every initialism/acronym means and does! Oh, the UEFI/BIOS has mouse support? That's hilarious. When trying to use the mouse in the UEFI/BIOS, it goes at 3fps and has an input lag of like 100ms. And why would you want to use a mouse anyways? The UI is straight out of 2002! Your mind is most likely prone to use the arrow keys anyways.

Also, before buying this board, be sure to know what it takes nearly 15 seconds to POST! My friend just recently bought a $60 board and it POSTs in 4 seconds. Actually hilarious, I bought an SSD the same time as this board, and it's almost like the startup time hasn't even changed!

Finally, the "electrocution prevention" is absolutely ridiculous. Oh, did a 0.01V x 0.01A charge just touch the case of your computer? Guess we'll shutdown to prevent damage to the board. Did not have this problem with my MSI motherboard. Now my computer just randomly shuts down sometimes when I touch a USB plug of any sort into the front I/O of my case because of the "electrocution prevention" this baord has as a "feature."

Oh, you want an after-market heatsink/cooler? Guess you can only use 3 sticks of RAM! The DIMM slots are too close to the CPU socket.

Other Thoughts: I have not regretted buying something this much since I bought the Hardened edition of Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Do not buy this board. It isn't worth it unless you get it for $20 brand new.

3 out of 5 eggsGA-970A-UD3P

Pros: Decent board...bought during Black Friday even for a new build. Have had a lot of good luck with Gigabyte boards so no need to change now.

Cons: My one complaint with this board is this: they use a Realtek driver for the on-board ethernet controller, but then then stoop to using Via for the on-board sound instead of sticking with Realtek. I don't understand why they would inconvenience their users like that.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed.

Pros: Looks nice and organized

Cons: Eager to build my new PC, I out everything together and this happens to kill my vibe. Plug everything in, and whoa it looks so cool fans are spinning and everything looks cool. BUT i plug in hdmi and dvi from my gpu (R9 270x) to my monitor, and I get no display. I know it's not a bad card because I tried two other cards, and guess what? No display. I had my father test my gpu on a computer at his work, and it worked fine. But this motherboard said no to that.
- No Display

3 out of 5 eggsworst shipping

Pros: good and not DOA, very wide support to the CPU types.

Cons: bad shipping that sucks my whole PC building when you have all stuff ready and your mother board still needs 5more days on the way

1 out of 5 eggsDOA after 30 days

Pros: plenty of room to install all the power pins

Cons: After having it over 30 days, the thing died. I tested all other components by taking them out and installing them in another computer. I even unhooked everything except 2 fans and the hard-drive and it still would not turn back on. Very disappointing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MOBO

Pros: After using this mobo for about 2 weeks now, I can't say enough GOOD things about this board. Installation was around 2 1/2 hours from start to finish.. I had even been able to migrate my Liquid cooling system over to the new build, an H70 Corsair.. My CPU temps are 120 tops in game, and bottom out at around 56 degrees Fahrenheit. The boot times even on a 7200 RPM clunker from Hitachi, are about 15 seconds from bios screen to windows 8.1 (64-bit) and I have an AMD 6350 3.9 ghz in the mobo at the moment, I will get an 8350 5.0 Ghz if I notice any games actually need 8 cores, at this time 6 cores is a bit overkill.. As for OC'ing this mobo, without that ALL IMPORTANT WATER COOLING SYSTEM, do not overclock whatsoever. The stock cpu fan is flimsy cheap & not even worth installing for a second. There were times I wished the the Power port on the mobo's was somewhere near the bottom, Away from my Water cooling radiator.. Right now there is .2 mm space between them.. Also, for the love of Lord Gaben, make sure you put all mobo wires, cables through the case cutouts in the back, airflow is an issue otherwise.. I did have wires up fron hanging out when i was testing to see if this mobo even worked, and after successful posting, I quickly snapped photos of where all the jumpers were and rewired for maximum airflow.. This mobo will take some time to setup PROPERLY but the manual really does have everything in plain english, no bachelors of Computer Science is needed..

Cons: Wiring was a little clunky, do to my first bootup rush to check to see if it was a clunker.. the placement of some of the pins on the mobo is clunky, I had to really slow down to a crawl to make sure everything wasn't half on, the 2nd memory card magically popped out for no real reason when i transported this mobo to a LAN party.. I did click the chips in so IDK..

Other Thoughts: I reccomend this board as it is flexable enough to go from a 6350 to an 8350 w/o many problems.. I do NOT reccomend G-SKILL Ripjaws at all, they work fine (for now) but if I'm really gonna be honest, I suggest CORSAIR 8 Gb's of ram, which clock speed is up to your budget, but if you can, go with this selection: CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 Desktop Memory Model CMY16GX3M2A1866C9R (Red)

2 out of 5 eggsDied Fast

Pros: Fits well, and decent while it worked. Easy to Manage

Cons: I've had this computer built and used for only 5 months and the the motherboard is just about done. Hibernation freezing, (i don't have sleep mode on) and BSOD now. Ive tried updating BIOS and everything. And reformatting as well. Anything to do with sound devices and settings has been working, or not (more often not) for some reason

4 out of 5 eggsRevisited... does recover for sleep mode properly

Pros: Nearly everything except the one "con" below... also see other thoughts.

Cons: Doesn't properly come out of sleep mode.

Other Thoughts: I reviewed this board a few weeks earlier after I just got it and everything appeared to work fine and so I gave it 5-stars. Everything I said it that review is still true and I still love this MB and would purchase it again HOWEVER, I've since discovered a problem that wasn't quite so apparent at first. What appeared to be randomly, I began having strange overheating issues while not doing anything more than simply browsing the internet... it would just suddenly do a hard shutdown. After a little sleuthing I realized it would get to 80C and immediately shutdown (which is what I had it set to do in the BIOS). Very long story made short... after a couple weeks of this odd behavior I finally tracked it down. If I boot the system up it will run cool as a cucumber for hours on end regardless of what I'm doing (meaning it typically stays below 30C and under no circumstances ever exceeds 43C) HOWEVER if I put it to sleep (or allow it to go to sleep) and then wake it, the CPU will operate at 100% when it comes out while the fans continue to remain at low RPMS and eventually the system temps will cause the CPU temp to gradually rise to an overheating situation and then finally end with a the hard shutdown... it takes about hour or more before this happens and I guess that's what took me so long to draw the connection. I have verified this behavior and when I search the internet about this MB and the sleep mode, I find other owners commenting about BSOD and such. I didn't find any mention of overheating though, perhaps mine is the only example or maybe others haven't yet made the connection or the BSOD prevents the board from going into sleep mode or maybe they are using more aggressive cooling systems. I believe if I had a more aggressive cooling system setup it would probably never reach the point of shutdown but running at such high temps still cannot be a good thing for the CPU. I'm fortunate that I can be happy without using sleep mode but if that is important to you, then I might suggest you stay away from this MB.
