5 out of 5 eggsawesome!

Pros: Great motherboard for the price.
The layout is nice.

Cons: It wouldn't load xubuntu live cd. I had to enable the iommu in the bios, then everything was good!

4 out of 5 eggsWell worth the money!

Pros: Only $75, 9 series Northridge, 950 south bridge. 6 sata 6.0 ports, nice heatsinks, am3+ socket. Flashing the bios was easy with Qflash. 2x copper, usb 3.0, looks sharp for a budget, full ATX mobo.

Cons: UEFI bios is not very good. Its confusing and unorganized. Mouse stutters all over the place and so I still just use my keyboard. Its better after a bios update but still not very usable. Also, still haven't figured out how to show core temps in Windows. Shows in bios just fine, it just won't work in Windows. Tried coretemp, speedfan, hwmonitor, occt etc. Other than those minor problems, it's great so far!

Other Thoughts: Better organized bios and it's 5 eggs all day. Zero problems with the board itself.

3 out of 5 eggslinux unfriendly

Pros: Affordable, parts on the board are well labeled. USB mouse/keyboard support in BIOS is nice. Seems like a solid board; I'm sure if I used windows I wouldn't have any complaints.

Cons: Minor: One PCIE slot blocked by heatsink
Major: Linux support is poor.

I used an Ubuntu installer from a USB flash drive. It booted fine, but once Ubuntu started the installer failed with "no medium found." After some googling, I found I needed to enable IOMMU in the BIOS. Did that, was able to install Ubuntu (64 bit, 14.04), but networking wouldn't work. Also a lot of "IO_PAGE_FAULT" messages until I disabled the USB 3.0 controller in the BIOS. I tried flashing the latest BIOS (F2e beta, released 2014/09/01) but no change. I tried various combinations of IOMMU enabled/disabled and kernel options (iommu=soft, iommu=pt, amd_iommu=on) but could never get on the network.

Final solution: Bought a cheap network card. F2e BIOS, IOMMU enabled, USB 3.0 disabled (may not be necessary if you're ok with kernel load errors), no kernel options.

Other Thoughts: No IDE
Manual has enough information to be helpful, but isn't very detailed.

1 out of 5 eggsWent after 7 months and took the gpu with it

Pros: OC'd my FX-8320 to 4.0 GHz stable

Cons: After about 7 months the mobo failed and decided to take my HD7790 with it.
Hoping Gigabyte has a quick turn around time and wondering if they would cover the GPU.

Other Thoughts: Was a good board while it lasted, hoping the RMA service covers the board and GPU that it ate.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best match for my fx-6300

Pros: Easy to install cooler, ram and plugs.

Sleeps fans and GPU fans.

Easily runs 1866MHz ram.

More USB than you will ever need.

2x USB 3.0 and plug for front ports.

Easy to use BIOS

Good customer service by phone.

Cons: I am not sure if it is the motherboard, but like others I have had issues with my system going into states of sleep where I can't wake it or it is awake but I can't get the signal on the tv.

I think this is mostly in part due to settings in windows, and the type of monitor.

If you set your SSD to ever sleep, that will cause this I think.

If your monitor is an HDTV I think it needs to be on when you wake it or power it on.

I still may be experiencing the issue, I haven't had enough time to experiment, but I think it is preventable.

Other Thoughts: I wonder what the protruding pieces of plastic or metal are that say Ultra Durable on them. I can't find that info, but I route my fan cable under one of them and it looks great.

3 out of 5 eggsCombo broken

Pros: Wouldn't know any pros. Got the combo but the case was way too small

Cons: No cons either

Other Thoughts: The combo is cracked, the motherboard alone is far to big for the included case, even w all the cases interior racks taken out

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board with some issues

Pros: -Cheap.
-A true 8+2 VRM.
-Can overclock easily (More on that later).
-Doesn't run hot, although the NB does get quite warm.
-Nice UEFI layout and is easy to use.

Cons: -Overvolts the CPU by quite a bit and needs to be fixed.
-When adjusting the core voltage be careful because if you set it to a certain value you cannot change it (some bug I assume?). The only way to reset the voltage is by reflashing the Bios. (This seriously needs to be fixed because it ruins the whole overclocking friendly thing on this board.)

Other Thoughts: If you're on a budget, get this board. Other then the hot northbridge and the strange Core voltage bug, it beats any other 970 board on the market. It's not perfect, but it's really good.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat choice for an AM3+ based build

Pros: + Good build quality, PCB is thick and solid
+ Adheres to strict ATX spec so the right side of the motherboard is well supported by screws unlike other boards I've seen and used
+ Has plenty of room around the CPU socket for aftermarket heatsink/fans or tall RAM
+ USB 3 header is well placed so the cable doesn't interfere with other cables or components. (Are you paying attention to this Asus?)
+ The USB 3.0 cable locks when connected. It LOCKS! Why has no one else implemented this?
+ Expansion slot configuration optimized for dual GPU installation without blocking access to other slots of any type.
+ VRMs (between CPU socket and I/O blocks) have a heatsink!
+ VIA HDdeck is nice
+ EUFI is improved over older versions and is better than MSI

Cons: - Front panel header block has a spot for a 2-pin and a 3-pin power LED connection. Likely this is to increase compatibility with a wider array of cases. Use one or the other, not both. Could be very confusing for new builders.
- EZtune 6 is only Meh.
- Rear I/O shield is pretty flimsy and silver. When will these commonly come black to match most cases?
- EUFI could still be improved on. It isn't as good as ASUS
- Too much "junk" included in the Xpress Install option on the CD. Google and Norton are heavy in this load. Install drivers via manual selection to avoid the detritus.

Other Thoughts: The AMD 970 chipset is pretty "mature". The board ships with BIOS version F1 which is not just the most recent available, but it's the ONLY one available. All of the drivers and applications on the CD matched the newest versions available on the website.

I'd encourage you to get the latest AMD Catalyst drivers from AMD if you want something newer than Jan 2014.
