3 out of 5 eggsDisappointed and will probably end up getting an ASUS

Pros: Great feature set. Modern BIOS, 4 DDR3 slots, supports DDR3 2133, has two PCIe x16 slots, good layout, and came shipped with a recent enough BIOS to "support" my A10-7850k.

Cons: Though it supports the A10-7850k and boots with it, the BIOS shows the CPU temp at 70 degrees Celsius when idle. I assumed it was a bad heatsink/paste install, so I took it off, applied some Arctic Silver, and ensured I was installing the stock heatsink properly. No change. I then exchanged the processor thinking it was the issue. Received the new one, but same issue. Next I exchanged the board for the same one. Sane problem. Went ahead and picked up an EVGA 600B PSU to see if that was the issue, but again same problem. Turns out, reading through the reviews, some others have the same issue.

Other Thoughts: Though the BIOS shows high temps, if I install Windows 7 and install the EasyTune 6 software, the software shows temps that I would expect. It says I idle below 30 degrees Celsius and under a stress test with Prime95 it only climbs to 58 degrees max. Also, when the BIOS says I'm at 70 (sometimes as high as 80) degrees, I can touch the heatsink and it doesn't feel that hot (just warm). I even quickly shutdown the machine and removed the heatsink and the processor doesn't even feel hot. At those temps, I would expect to have blistered my finger. In conclusion, I believe it is operating at the correct temps, but this motherboard is interpreting them incorrectly. Perhaps it was not properly calibrated by the manufacturer. I would definitely keep the board if Gigabyte would acknowledge the issue and provide a BIOS update to fix. Without an update, my peace of mind is missing, and I am unable to use the CPU Temp warnings, as they will constantly alarm. Also, I believe this causes the fan to run at full speed all the time, even though the actual temps would allow it to slow down.

2 out of 5 eggsOK

Pros: Good options for micro atx

Cons: LAN crapped out within a week. Had to get a wiifi card. Not worth sending it back

Other Thoughts: For anyone debating whether to get FM2 or FM3 board. Get the FM3.

3 out of 5 eggsPretty Nice Mobo

Pros: Has two PCI Express slots for crossfire/SLI, given that it is a micro ATX board, that is pretty nice

8 SATA ports, again some full ATX boards I was looking at only had 6, thats a plus for Gigabyte.

Worked out of the box

Cons: The only real complaint I have is that the CD that containing the drivers to setup on windows seems to be corrupt. I was unable to run the disk as the manual instructs to. The run.exe ont eh CD comes back with (Not a valid Win 32 Application). I am running an older CD drive so that could be the issue. However, I was able to just download the drivers off the website and install via USB so not too much an inconvenience.

Other Thoughts: I was worried after reading several DoAs on other Mobos besides this one. It seems to be a common occurence that people have to RMA a mobo because its dead on arrival. However, I suspect the users are not properly grounding and discharging their static electricity before handling the mobo and are doing a RMA to re-coop the loss.

Make sure that whatever you do, TAKE STATIC ELECTRICITY SERIOUS WHEN WORKING WITH A MOTHERBAORD. You may not think its such a big deal or forget but that could save a lot of headaches.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Work Horse

Pros: I got this as a package deal with a CPU and Ram. I had to repair my mother in laws PC and this was a great find. The AMD A6-5400K Trinity Dual-Core 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 worked great and the build went flawless. Lots of space, the BIOS is very easy to use.

Cons: No cons but maybe put another onboard USB slot

Other Thoughts: Great for standard PC builds, nice layout

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: It came in a nice Box

Cons: This was my second build. First one worked great. Used MSI parts for just about everything. I tried to use Gigabyte on this build for my wife. The MB died within 6 months, giving no signal to the display. This was extremely disappointing. Even more disappointing was trying to contact customer service about the 3-year warranty they claim to have and being ignored. I bought this in July 2014, and have had no luck yet.

5 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: Supports up to 32GB of RAM. Has USB 3 and SATA 3. Worked right out of the box. All drivers installed fine in W7 x64. System running stable.
SATA ports located close to drives so shorter SATA cables can be used for less cable clutter inside case.

Cons: None that I can see.

Other Thoughts: The on-board CPU 12V power connector is 8-PIN, but a 4-PIN connector from P/S can still be used. User manual also states this.

4 out of 5 eggsA good buy

Pros: The build is what I come to expect from Gigabyte: high quality connectors, solid caps, and a dual BIOS. Sometimes it's hard to quantify quality but you know it when you see it.

It has (4) memory slots, this is getting less common in the uATX form factor. It's great to have two open slots for future expansion without loosing the original investment in memory.

It has (8) SATA ports that are on (2) banks which can be configured separately in the BIOS. Very handy for quirky devices or legacy connections.

Has legacy PCI, LPT, & serial connections; while not very useful to many home users they are still very commonly used business machines that must talk with other hardware.

It supports 4pin PWM fans on the CPU & two case fans. This makes for a quiet machine and longer fan life.

It shipped with BIOS version F6 (of F7) so out of box CPU support is good. The OS free BIOS update in EUFI works great, & is especially handy for Linux users. With Dual BIOS there is no fear of bricking your board due to a bad download or power failure during the update.

TPM support. I haven't used this feature yet but plan to in the future, and when I want to it will be there.

Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 64bit works perfectly with the default drivers. No need to pay for an OS unless you choose to.

Cons: Crapware is installed by the driver CD by default. You can uncheck the box to avoid this but I think it should be unchecked by default.

The SPDIF plug on my board is soldered on visibly crooked enough for me to notice it without looking for it. I consider Gigabyte to be a top quality manufacturer and the fact they let this pass QC is a little disappointing.

No heat sinks on VRMs. When stress testing my 65W CPU the VRMs got a little warmer then I would like them to be. If you plan to run one of the larger APUs at high load for extended periods of time (such as gaming) you may want to install aftermarket heat sinks on the VRMs.

The USB ports by the KB/Mouse plug are relatively stiff and entire plug assembly visibly flexes significantly when you plug something in. It flexes so much I believe after prolonged use solder joints problems would develop so to avoid this possible issue I used these plugs for my 'permanent' devices like the KB & mouse.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board to be used mainly as an HTPC & web surfer. With a modest A4-6300 & 4GB RAM it streams video and decodes DVDs in HD with ease. With (2) open RAM slots, (6) open SATA ports, an open PCIE3.0 slot with crossfire support, & almost every supported APU faster then my current one my upgrade path is good.

When the time comes this board is outdated it will live its remaining years as a NAS server, programming uControllers via the serial connection, or controlling CNC servos via a PCI card. Having legacy connections gives me lots of options and options are always good to have.

Invest in a quality board and it will last years, buy with one eye for now and one on the future.

A quick shout out: I love the egg!
