5 out of 5 eggsvery fast and rock stable

Pros: installed windows 8.0 64bit in just under 2 minutes 30 seconds. rock solid performance. low power.

Cons: not free

Other Thoughts: paired with a SSD and 8 gigabytes of Kingston memory windows 8.0 64bit installed in just over 2 minutes. windows 8.1 upgrade was even faster. the almost 1000 updates to windows 8.0 took a little longer. super snappy dual core Celeron. windows feels more snappy and faster then my i7 everything instantaneous.

this make a very good mom or pop web browsing computer. i even used it for a wile as HTPC no issues

i am updating to the j1900 Celeron motherboard supports DirectX 11 and it has 4 cores even bettor for windows 8 and htpc .we see how that goes but from the reviews its even better

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy -good price-rock solid.

Pros: Got this to be a Linux router for my home network. Fedora 20 works with most of the UEFI stuff. Improved my network performance quite a bit over my old shoebox router. Ended up after three weeks converting this to a home theater system with Windows 7 64-bit and a digital tv card. Solid video performance on hdmi 1080p video. Very low power consumption make this a good system to leave on all the time. All most never a glitch on video streaming.

Cons: Unless you have Windows 8.1 or Fedora 20, the UEFI bios is useless. Just set the bios settings to all of the legacy settings and you will have no problems.

Other Thoughts: Good low power system. Never had any issue of blue screens or hangs. Nice not to have to mount the cpu and fan. The fan on the cpu is almost completely silent.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent as a *BSD server/router

Pros: Relatively high performance CPU
Dual NIC
DDR3 (dual channel) support
Proper BIOS support for 64-bit OS, including non-Windows
Cool and quiet during "normal" load
SATA 3 support
Solid design

Cons: Active CPU cooling, fan could fail and require replacement

Other Thoughts: Almost RMA'd mine before realizing it needs a 24 pin ATX + 4 pin CPU connector plug in to start. It is now running FreeBSD 10 and will serve as a combo router/server/PBX system. I was worried about the Realtek NICs but they were stable in BSD during a week-long test run.

Can boot up 64-bit FreeBSD properly when UEFI has CSM enabled.

The CPU in this board is powerful enough to serve as an Asterisk PBX for a small to medium-size office.

5 out of 5 eggsI was rushing to judgement, correction

Pros: I di find correct SATA AHCI driver for NM70, should be just "7 series", and not "7 series/C216" as Device Manager was making me to believe.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Works very well now.

2 out of 5 eggsNot for XP

Pros: Looks good on paper, and it works, kind of.. Also, fan is very silent.

Cons: Can run SATA drives in IDE mode only.

Other Thoughts: Lack of disclosure that this item is not fully supported in XP is a bad practice both for Newegg and Intel. Do not buy for use with Win XP.

5 out of 5 eggsRouter Build

Pros: It works like a beast for a router build for a small user population. The low cost and power use makes this MB a nice choice for a HTPC or Router; at least it did for me.

Cons: Needs some space for the CPU cooling fan.

Other Thoughts: Fits in the Case I put it in and has been running like a champ 24/7.

2 out of 5 eggsBad engineering

Pros: Small factor, fast

Cons: Bad engineering

Other Thoughts: I installed the board on a 1U server chasis from Athena, installed router software and after 10 min it will shot down, let it cool start it again this time shot down after 5 min.
Heatsink was hot and did not know what is going on and soon discovered the issue.
The screws holding the heatsink on the back of the board are spring loaded , when you install the board into the case the heatsink screws are a bit taller than the case mounts hence they will get pushed up by the bottom of the case and forcing the heatsink to lose contact with the CPU.
If you try to shim the mounts it will rise the board to much and the fan will rest against the case cover.
Bad design from a renown motherboard company.....as far as I know 1U is a standard don't they verify standards when they manufacture boards?....for clearances?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for a small, low-power desktop.

Pros: Low power, cool running, dual Ethernet, takes desktop RAM.

Cons: Still no USB 3.0.

Other Thoughts: I also have an older version of this motherboard (the one with the Celeron 847). It's pretty much identical with the exception of the more recent CPU. All the same great things apply. Low power consumption, cool operation, enough grunt for a basic workstation, and it's reliable enough for 24x7 operation. The dual ethernet ports make this a great basis for a router. I run Mint Linux on this one, and it's driving a 24" 1920x1200 monitor without any problems. All the hardware was supported. The one fault is that Gigabyte still hasn't bothered to put USB 3.0 on this motherboard, despite upgrading the CPU twice now.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns Well

Pros: Runs well...easy install of Xubuntu 14.04. Nice to have two Ethernet ports for use as a router/firewall. Low power consumption.

Cons: None really....I read the specs BEFORE I ordered it so I received what I expected to receive.

Other Thoughts: The next generation will be interesting.
