General information

  • newegg ALREADY LOADED WITH INTEL CELERON J1900 PROCESSOR Enjoy the benefits brought by the built-in Intel Celeron J1900 Processor. It is a system on chip (SoC), combining CPU, graphics and memory controller in one package. The 22nm manufacturing process makes the thermal envelop to only 10 watts. It is DX11 ready to let you game furiously, and offers a dedicated H.264 for smooth HD video playback.
  • newegg GIGABYTE UEFI DUALBIOS AND EASY CONFIGURATION This motherboard employs a “Main BIOS” and a “Backup BIOS”. If the “Main BIOS” failes due to virus attack, hardware malfunction, improper OC settings or power failure during the update process, the “Backup BIOS” will automatically launch data recovery. Just right within Windows, you can update your system’s BIOS settings through the new GIGABYTE @BIOS app. The user interface features easy-to-follow design. Everything will be intuitive. The GIGABYTE @BIOS app also automatically downloads the latest version from the GIGABYTE servers.
  • newegg COMPREHENSIVE PROTECTION Much attention is given to ensure this Ultra Durable 4 Classic motherboard will survive any common malfunction threats users encounter on a day-to-day basis. The gaps between PCB filaments are reduced to a minimum. Humidity cannot play havoc on your motherboard’s circuitry any more. With Anti-Surge ICs, your motherboard will be free from damages caused by power surges. High ESD resistance ICs are also provided to protect your motherboard against electrostatic discharge. Moreover, all the Ethernet LAN and USB 3.0 ports are equipped with dedicated protection filter to safeguard from common electrical surges and even direct lighting strikes. The use of All Solid Caps (Capacitors) and Low RDS (on) MOSFETs delivers brilliant component lifespan and lower amount of heat.
  • newegg EACH USB PORT (USB 3.0 ONLY) HAS DEDICATED PROTECTION Unlike traditional one fuse design for multi-USB ports, each USB port (USB 3.0 only) on this motherboard has a dedicated fuse. If one USB port fails, other USB ports will still remain functional.
  • newegg OPTIMIZE THE LAN AS YOU LIKE This motherboard provides GIGABYTE’s exclusive LAN optimizer, allowing you to manage different types of network traffic. You can use it to set data streams – such as HD media, web browsing or online gaming – to take priority over large data downloads that tend to strangle overall network bandwidth.
  • newegg ON/OFF CHARGE TECHNOLOGY A real blessing for iDevice owners. The USB ports on your motherboard are ready to charge your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch at all times, whether your PC is on, in standby mode or even off. Charging will be blistering fast because your iDevices will draw more current from this motherboard’s USB ports than standard USB ports allow. Charge your iDevices quickly at any time.

1 out of 5 eggs2 Boards in a 2 weeks period were DOA

Pros: In the past Year I have used 2 of these that were perfect. The earlier boards would have gotten 5 eggs from me. But these last 2 get only one and that is because you have to give at least one.

Cons: In the past 2 weeks I have had 2 DOA. They won't post. No beeps. When you power it up, it stays on for several seconds then turns off and back on again. I tried in and out of the chassis, different power supplies, with and without memory. Seems to be a manufacturing problem. Ordered a 3rd board in this same time period from a different distributor with the same results. The serial numbers would indicate that they could have been processed in the same batch. I have done an RMA directly with Gigabyte. Hopefully the board I get will be good.

Other Thoughts: I hope they get this problem worked out. This is one of the few boards that meet my needs when they work.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth it, period

Pros: dual Gigabit Ethernet
Quad Core 2ghz processor,
very power efficient

NO built-in BIOS update function
Completely incapable of installing any operating system including windows 7 x64, windows 8.1 x64, ubuntu 12.04 x64 or

Other Thoughts: I bought three of these for a customer's builds for basic net machines to replace some computers destroyed by some vandals. Had one of them come with the F2 BIOS, the other two had F1 BIOS on them. There is no built-in BIOS update function on board, according to Gigabyte, you're supposed to update within windows. Which is impossible because you can't install Windows with the F1 BIOS on the machine. I spent around 6 hours just trying to get the BIOS updated through various means, including FreeDOS via USB thumb drive and through Harddrive Swaps of working OS installs from the third machine, etc. with no luck what so ever.

I will be returning all three boards for refund and will get something else.

1 out of 5 eggsGood Idea - Poor Execution

Pros: Not much, BIOS is incredibly buggy cannot tell how well the new Intel Celeron V4 Bay Trail would be. Can’t get past the BIOS.

Cons: Where to start. The delivered MB had BIOS ver F1. Buggy and unusable for any OS. Gigabyte wants you to get out your DOS and floppy to upgrade BIOS - dead serious! Search the internet, there is a hpusb tool you can use instead. F2 was almost as bad but some Win system issues fixed. F3 fixed most Win issues. None of these addressed serious problems BIOS causes for BSD or Linux distros. Do a google search...

Gigabyte Tech support is pitiful. 3 days after submitting a service ticket a reply. “blah blah blah we only care about MS Win users, we will not fix BIOS bugs unless they affect MS Win systems”. Really? I have Win 8 & Win 7 systems but would never use a Celeron to run such a resource hungry, bloated OS as Win! You would want at least the newest i3 if you wanted it to be responsive. This bd is perfect for faster more efficient OS like the nix systems.

There is a serious bug in the BIOS that causes kernel panics at OS install with all nix OS. Something to do with ACPI or USB conflicts. Gigabyte refuses to fix so don’t hold your breath on EVER getting it to work. RMA or use for paper weight or door stop.

Be warned - Gigabyte response to many complaints on this is that it will never be fixed.

Last Gigabyte product I have to RMA as it will be the last purchase. Too many good alternative companies - ASUS, ASRock, MSI, etc who work with ALL OS communities to waste time with this lost cause.

Newegg would not allow me to post unless I gave it at least 1 star so… consider it a -1 star

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not work well on FreeBSD 10

Pros: Low cost and has 2 Ethernet and 2 comm ports. Seems to work well on Win7 when the drivers are downloaded from the Gigabyte website. The drivers on the included CD are worthless.

Cons: FreeBSD 10 seems to have a problem starting all of the CPU's. On most boot-ups it kernel panics when starting CPU's other than the first one. The auto-reboots usually start OK after the first panic. The latest version of Xorg in the ports system:

X.Org X Server 1.12.4
Release Date: 2012-08-27
[ 25.368] X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
[ 25.368] Build Operating System: FreeBSD 10.0-STABLE amd64

Does not have a video driver for the Intel graphics chip on the motherboard. It runs in VESA mode.

The Realtek ALC887 HDA CODEC is seen by the operating system but neither OSS nor Pulseaudio can use the chip:

Version info: OSS 4.2 (b 2009/201406161815) (0x00040100) BSD.

Other Thoughts: I will reinstall my 3 year old motherboard in this PC and put this Gigabyte on the shelf for a future project that doesn't require X or audio. It is not worth the expense and effort to return this board to Newegg for credit. This motherboard does not meet my needs.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board, Huge Improvement on Atom - Fix for Win7 64 bit Inside!

Pros: Small form factor, quad core, dual gigabit LAN, low power use, serial port, decent graphics

Cons: Only 2 SATA ports, getting Win7 64 bit to install was complicated, no on-board HDMI, Gigabyte "drivers" disc is useless, download the latest from their site

Other Thoughts: Since a lot of people have asked, here's the process to upgrade the F3 BIOS...

Follow STEP 1 on this guide:

Download the latest BIOS (as of 5/28/2014 it's F3:

Copy ALL the files to the newly created bootable USB drive (INCLUDING AUTOEXEC.BAT!)

Go into BIOS and set CSM to UEFI and Legacy (in the Advanced tab) - Set network to DISABLED, Storage to Legacy First, Video to UEFI First and the last one to UEFI first.

Reboot with no DVD in your system, hit F12 and boot off your USB drive - the autoexec file will automatically flash the BIOS for you. Trying to run EFIFlash manually will result in an error code that it can't read the BIOS file - you HAVE to do it AUTOMATICALLY. Very odd.

After that you can boot off your Win7 64-bit installer (DVD or USB, whatever you chose) and it should work just fine.

One one of the systems I built I had to restart the Win7 install before it loaded into setup, worked just fine the second time.

Good luck - hope this helps!

My one egg was deducted for having to deal with support on a brand new board and it being a bit of a run around to sort it out.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with Linux

Pros: Small, quiet & low-powered.
Can run windows 8, windows 7, and Linux (up and running).

Cons: It is a pain to set up the BIOS to run Linux.

Bios F2 is a requirement for Linux.

Not forgiving.

Other Thoughts: So after checking forums and trial and error, I installed the new bios on a dos formatted usb. Then all the uefi settings were switched to legacy first or only.

I tried several Linux osesand Unix oses, but the the latest kernel is required, otherwise its a no-go. I used fedora 20, and everything went peachy.

I've heard you can switch in a runninghdd drive with other flavors of Linux pre-installed.

1 out of 5 eggsPrematurely Released

Pros: Low power usage

Cons: The BIOS. Ugh.

It ships with the F1 BIOS which is next to useless. I spent two days trying to upgrade to the F2 BIOS. I eventually had to install Windows 8 just to upgrade the BIOS. Windows 8 would show weird lag and would sometimes stop responding to me as well.

After that now I can get Linux to somewhat boot, only to have it lock up later. I can't enter the BIOS setup anymore either, even after clearing the CMOS.

Other Thoughts: This was rushed to market and the BIOS certainly shows it. F2 BIOS seems to be better but there are some regressions as well. This might be a good product after they resolve all of the BIOS issues.
