5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Choice For Thunderbolt Compatibility

Pros: Thunderbolt Works! Audio Works (rear ports are a whole 'nuther world). All drivers available from Gigabyte's website or the chip manufacturer were painless.

Cons: None other than the OC menus were a new thing for me as I've never been a big overclocker. For experienced users this is not a con. I also wish that there was another SATA port or two, but I'll make it.

Other Thoughts: I used this with an Intel 4790K, 32 GB of Crucial Ballistiix Sport RAM, Noctua NH-D14 cooler and EVGA GTX 760 SC. Everything fits and works excellent. At first I had my Audio Technica headphones plugged into the front port on the case and they where OK, changed to the rear port and WOW! Way more volume & clarity with the special audio output chips for those rear ports. Also have this thing running Yosemite in a dual boot setup and it was pretty much painless also other than a common boot0 error when setting up, even the thunderbolt ports are working great after deleting Apple's Thunderbolt kexts from the system. This system is so good I'm about to build another for a friend exactly the same as mine.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy for the thunderbird ports

Pros: A lot of USB3 headers, but they can be overloaded, and some drives frequently disconnected (usb powered or not).

Cons: Tech support was not help with the T-Bolt ports The t-bolt is supported by w7, but nothing else worked.. Around and around and nothing, I even upgraded to win 8.1 at their request, nada. The system/program saw the drives but the drives wouldn't mount. I tried all the drives support pages too. The drives worked with a t-bolt equipped Asus laptop.

Other Thoughts: If I wanted a solution I could ship them in my drive? That is a show me your underwear question. You may not be able to see anything but it is still a privacy foul. So NO.

1 out of 5 eggsGood until 3-way crossfire

Pros: Initially, this was a great card. Easy to set up and no problems at first.

Cons: We were running a 290x gpu, and all was fine. Then we added a 295x2, and the bios got corrupted, prevented the computer from booting. We activate the backup bios, and then the same thing happened, rendering the motherboard dead.

Other Thoughts: Fine for casual setups, but be careful when you start pushing the limits.

2 out of 5 eggsWas DOA for me, but seemed great.

Pros: -Uses the great z97 chipset. Supports tons of features.
-Comes with the Thunderbolt built in, which was one of my deciding features. Two ports, at that.
-Main and backup BIOS.
-Looks stylish and slick.

Cons: -None yet besides the DOA, will know soon

Other Thoughts: I'm still deciding on what to think of this. It was DOA, so I couldn't even boot the BIOS and get to POST (both the Main and Backup BIOS will boot rarely, but still don't get to POST), but until then I'll post what I know for a fact about it and keep it at two stars. It's unfortunate that I had to send this back, especially since I'll have to wait for the refund to do anything as it is, but I'm patient.

5 out of 5 eggsGood heatsink clearance

Pros: Chose this board to use for a hackintosh as well because of the amount of SATA3 and USB3 connectors.

The Noctua NH-U14S not only fits with 30mm standard profile RAM, but there is enough clearance in front of the fan that it would likely work with high profile RAM as well.
There is a 1-1.5mm gap between the front of the 140mm fan and the RAM stick heatsink on ADATA XPG RAM Model AX3U1866W8G10-DR. The RAM actually sits in front of the fan, not under.
I suppose though if you were to configure the heatsink to horizontal instead, then you would need the low profile 30mm to get under the metal fins.
I couldn't find any info about this when I was shopping around, so I'm sure this will help anyone who is worried about their RAM compatibility.

Cons: I'm not a fan of the LED diagnostic display or the bright orange BIOS LED as they don't jive with my side window lighting.
A lot of the App Center programs seem gimmicky and useless... more for parental controls.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Card

Pros: The weak point is my rig is the CPU, an I7 4790K which gets only a 7.8 rating. The rest is all 7.9...
Ran on first boot.

Cons: Who, in his devious mind, conceived that piece of s..., (Oups excuse me! I meant soft) which is provided on a CD. Do yoursel a favor: download the drivers and the trash the disk! The applications are worthless.

Other Thoughts: The layout is not the best... The SATA ports are difficut to reach especailly with a GTX 760 which requires two connectors fed by 3 PCIe cables.
The RAM bank is too close to the CPU. Any decent aftermarket cooler will prevent you from installing a RAM bank in the closest spot. You can solve this by getting a fan pulling on the other side of the cooler and removing the original one. (4 pins, PWM)

4 out of 5 eggsAll but Realtek Audio

Pros: Thin polymer coat covers all traces on board. Extended shelf for the gfx card to sit on. Brass and Jet black Board look really good in a case with a window. On-board testing is a VERY good feature, similar to the error code testers that were on older DELL mobos. The BIOS screen (GUI) is much easier to use for individuals new to computer assembly.

Cons: Realtek Audio - Drivers and Software are abominable, both included and from the support website. Very gimmicky. DOES NOT WORK OUT OF BOX!!! (Win7 64 Pro). The on-board audio was bleeding over into the Mic Channel and was not transmitting on the Right Channel. Effectively disabling the microphone and creating an audio dead spot. There exists Very Poor Documentation on this problem out there but it is a known issue. You would think a company with "Audio" in their name would know how to make a functional driver not some pointless software that makes it sound like I'm in the bathroom (ACTUAL FEATURE). Imbecilic and Immature. (Solution Below, not that I should have to figure it out on my own.)

Other Thoughts: SATA connector block in an odd location, could be better placed; tends to sit UNDER the gfx card. Mobo pwr connector and RAM block are tight as well. Might have difficulty with RAM Cooler Installation, tends to get a wee bit cramped.

[AUDIO DRIVER SOLUTION] - Either let Windows discover the Audio Driver and use it's default, or install the Audion driver then uninstall it and let windows manage the driver. Fixes both the Mic and Left / Right Channel issues.

I love my old gigabyte board, still runs after over 10 years! Thank goodness for that, it helped my trouble shoot the fault RealCrap Audio driver issue.

5 out of 5 eggsGood board. Quick setup.

Pros: Motherboard works well. I installed 32GB of DDR3 memory, have a SSD system disk, and a water cooled i5 CPU. I have not tested the Thunderbolt, but I believe there will be more devices for it in the future.

Cons: I installed 32GB of DDR3-1600 memory, but the BIOS default was to only recognize it as DDR3-1333. In the BIOS, I turned on XMP (eXtreme Memory Profile data from the memory boards), and then the memory was automatically recognized at the correct speed of DDR3-1600.

I installed the App Center software, that comes on a CD with the motherboard, into Windows 7. The App Center software created multiple running Windows tasks and applications by default. From the Windows Task Manager, the naming on the tasks was obscure and the Task Manager did not show a command line, description, or image path for many of the tasks. The applications did not appear in the task bar, but did appear in the Alt-Tab list although you could never get them to appear on the screen. The applications also has obscure names such as "form1". This all felt like an attempt to push poor quality software on me, from multiple vendors, each trying to get a foothold into my system. So I uninstalled all of the App Center software from Gigabyte. All of these App Center applications and tasks should NOT have been running unless I turned them on manually.

Other Thoughts: The motherboard works great. It was quick to set up and has passed all of my tests. The motherboard has worked well with everything I have plugged into it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent board

Pros: 32 GB High speed RAM supported
PCI E 3 with 8x USB 3 and 2x Thunderbolt 2
Supports an i5 4690K and solid/easy overclocking
9 SATA III ports with hardware RAID options
Easy install with good documentation

Cons: Thunderbolt 2 still giving me hiccups, wished it was plug & play (not really mobo problem tho, my OS knows what the devices are, just doesn't see HDDs) - I would like more info on the BIOS Thunderbolt 2 settings, the manual is very vague.

Other Thoughts: This was just under $200 for me. It's easy to install, easy to work with. The best looking BIOS I've used, if anything over-the-top "stylish". The manual helps a lot, which is in pdf form at Gigabyte.com. OC'ing has been easy with the Gigabyte Windows 7 Utility.

I tried using the app center to update itself, but it maxed at under 100 kb/s even when Speedtest.net was giving me 115 Mb/s

Used the @BIOS app to flash from a file.F4, downloaded from Gigabyte Support which went well. Had version 2, went to latest version 4. Tried to update from server which crashed 4 times.

4 out of 5 eggsUPDATE TO: USB 3 ports working only as USB 2

Pros: Newegg reviewer: Please replace my previous with this one. Thanks. Like the BIOS setup/interface, number of 3.0 ports and capability to add 3.0 to front header. The board layout is nice and all connections are labeled and in a decent size font. Like the on board test buttons. Documentation is also up to par.

Cons: None at this time. Good board with good setup documentation.
