Pros: Gigabyte is considered one of the top 10 motherboard
manufacture’s so when I received this motherboard those honors were confirmed.

This is a Intel LGA 1150 socket motherboard, I was very impressed with the memory overclock speeds all the way up 3200 DDR that’s awesome speeds.

This is definitely a high quality Motherboard at a median price could have a higher price tag according to specs but gigabyte likes to keep the prices low.

This mother board has Great expandability lots a SATA plugs for many drives and it also supports SLI and comes with a SLI bridge,

The M.2 SSD slot is also a great.
addition it been out for a while but just hasn’t seem to have caught on yet in mainstream using the M.2 SSD slot as a boot drive will make your computer that fastest machine on the block.

This motherboard supports raid 0/1/5/10 using the 8 onboard SATA ports, The Realtek built-in audio is 7.1 Dolby rated is good, dual gigabit Lan cards are manufactured by Qualcomm.

PS2 Port? What? Actually the reason lots of gaming computer companies are including PS2 ports on motherboards again are for speed and latency issues believe it or not PS2 is still faster than USB 3.0 so make sure your keyboard or gamepad you’re using is PS2 for the full capability’s.

On to the onboard features this motherboards has power, reset and clear cmos buttons right on the motherboard for when you are overclocking, also has a 2 digit diagnostic led display for trouble shooting codes.

The UEFI Dual BIOS will give you peace of mind and ease of use when setting up and overclocking your computer to it fastest and stable running specs.

You cant expect high performance out of onboard video.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this Motherboard to any budget gamer or just some one that needs some good affordable Horsepower.

Pros: This board has both the M.2 and the Sata Express. It can run a devil's canyon and hold a stable 4.7ghz. In a comparison of z97 boards done by maximum PC, this was the best board out of all tested, I have to agree.

Other Thoughts: If you're one of those rich guys, get a haswell-e rig. Otherwise, this is the best out there.

Pros: I'm going to start of the review with looks and aesthetics. First off, this is a really good looking and well designed board (Wouldn't expect anything less from Gigabyte) Color scheme of black and gold on the VRM heatsinks look good and it's nice that this board is a black pcb. You may have trouble finding gold internal components such as heatsinks or RAM but finding black shouldn't be a problem. Build quality looks awesome as well. Capacitors are soldered tight and are not loose or bent.

This is Z97 chipset which supports Intel's latest 5th gen Broadwell chips that are due for release and is backwards compatible with 4th gen Haswell. The Z97 chipset also supports M.2 and SATA Express which significantly increases data throughput for SSDs.

UEFI is easy to navigate and easy to use as well. The latest version was preloaded onto the board so there was no need to update from the get go. All typical functions are accessible without any hindrance whatsoever.

External I/O is average but good in my opinion with regards to the price point of this mobo. 6x USB 3.0 ports are included which has effectively replaced the older USB 2.0 ports these days but Gigabyte decided to through in 2x USB 2.0 ports fo rgood measure. Dual LAN which is neat but not often used is also included. Finally your typical 8 channel audio, VGA, DVI and HDMI ports are included. No Display Port but it does not matter since it does not enjoy widespread usage in the industry unlike HDMI and DVI.

Internal I/O is relatively decent as well. 8x SATA 3.0 headers are included which allows plenty of connectivity to internal drives and optical media bays. You also have 1x SATA Express port included which makes use of the Z97 functionality. Not in widespread use at the moment but allows for a certain degree of future proofing when it comes to SSD throughput speeds. SATA Express allows for a theoretical throughput of 10 Gb/s and makes use of the PCI Express bus for SSD throughput. Good thing about this is that it is backwards compatible with legacy SATA devices. Definitely looking forward to putting that to use in the future. Your typical 4x Dual Channel DDR3 RAM slots are included. 2x. USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0 headers are also included giving plenty of options for external connectivity. With regards to PCI Express you have plenty of options. The board supports 2 way SLI and 3 way crossfire which gives you multiple options for use of graphics card and 2x PCI 1x ports are also included for use of additional cards. 2x legacy PCI cards are also included but may not be useful since sit right underneath the PCI Exppress x16 ports. 1x M.2 port is included which allows for use internal SSDs. However it is important to note that you can only use either M.2 or SATA Express at a time, not both since they share the same bus.

Overall installation is breeze since I have been doing this too many time already. Components snapped into place easily and booted up without a problem

No DDR4 but this really isn't a con considering the price point of the mobo and the fact that DDR4 has reached widespread market saturation yet.

First off, boot speed. Booted up incredibly fast, within 8 seconds to the login screen. Temps were stable idling at around 27 - 30 C and with light load at 31 - 34 C. Didn't get a chance to do an overclock but past builds utilizing Z97 chipsets have not failed me at all. Spent about two weeks with moderate usage and no problems whatsoever.

Other little additions to this board such s DualBIOS, Killer E2200 and Audio Noise Guard; I really don't know how relevant these are with regards to improvement over past boards but history has shown that such additions are meaningless and gimmicky. I personally don't pay attention to these additions and I don't think they make a mobo a good mobo or better than other guy's mobo. When people come up to me and ask me how do I choose, I tell them to compare the I/O, the chipset, and main features to see what suits them the best with regards to their build. This is a solid mid-range board which provides a good amount of options to those looking to build a nice system on a moderate budget. Definitely not your typical enthusiast board but it gets the job done.

Pros: My board shipped with the latest bios (F8) so I didn’t have to update them. Past experience with other boards is that updating the bios is often needed.

My Pros come from a hardware standpoint. You might say these are what you should expect from top-line feature-rich motherboard.
- Well built
- Quality hardware (capacitors – rated at 10,000hrs) with anti-surge and short-circuit support plus dual bios.
- 8 6Gb/s internal SATA connections provide excellent flexibility considering current generation of HDs and SSDs.
- Capability for M.2 or SATA Express if you have those. (I do not either of those pieces of hardware so can test that capability.) Using this will take up a couple of your SATA ports.
- On-board Intel video (HD4600) is a solid performer in case your graphics card is getting a bit old.
- Flexible graphics output with D-sub, DVI-D and HDMI ports.
- On-board audio acceptable unless you’re an audiophile.
- LED diagnostic display that can be extremely helpful should you encounter boot hardware problems.
- Dual LAN capability with Killer E2201 and Intel Gigabit adapters.

Cons: - The system fan header's location is different than most I’ve seen. At the far end of the board away from the CPU and memory. Make sure your system fan leads are long enough or get some extensions.
- I don’t like the UEFI setup -- not at all intuitive for me but that could be just me. Good news is the you’re just a click away from a legacy bios setup.

Other Thoughts: Should you consider an upgrade from a Z87 board? I would say no unless you want to use the M.2 or SATA Express capability now.
Should you consider an upgrade from an older motherboard, pre-Intel 8 series? Yes, this should be a consideration. It’ll work with the current Haswell and Devil’s Canyon CPUs plus the future Broadwell CPU.

The board booted straight out of the box, no problems. A Microsoft OS is always a hassle with new hardware, requiring ~5 minutes to reactivate the OS.
Overclocking:
- I was unable to use Gigabyte’s EasyTune, that is particular to my OS setup so not typical to others.
- Manual overclocking is pretty straight forward if you’ve done it before. If not there are a number of overclocking guides on the web, look at them before you try it.
- Works well with my i7-4770K (running 4.7G using 1.325V, have not optimized this speed for voltage – voltage might need less).

Pros: This is going down in my book as my favorite motherboard ever of all my builds. The quality is superior to many other of my past motherboards and it does not skimp on features. I will not list all of the features as they are all listed here in some of the other reviews but one that I look forward to using is the M.2 port which is ridiculously fast (10Gbps) and is a future proof feature on this board. You also get SATA express (10Gbps) so this is great to have both options available. Currently I am using 2 SSDs in raid-0 and I would never go back to anything other than a raid-0 config with SSDs but this port is a game changer and I look forward to upgrading to a single SSD in the future. I will wait for prices to drop later to upgrade.

The board is built very well with easy to read white print on black background and even though I wasn't a fan of the gold heat sinks, they are kind of growing on me after it went into my Antech 900 case. The board has black durable solid state capacitors that are rated at an amazing 10K hours. The CPU socket is gold plated which is going to protect it from corrosion over time. I expect this motherboard to easily last 10 years but most likely longer although I will have already upgraded like I usually do every 3-4 years. This board is built solid with longevity in mind. The board even has humidity protection with glass fabric PCB wove design. I am really shocked with how well this board is built with so many options for the price.

If you are like me and use a lot of USB 3.0 ports, this board will not disappoint. There are 6 USB 3.0 ports in the rear (along with 2 USB 2.0 ports) but keep in mind that the front USB 3.0 ports have a direct link to the Z97 chipset. I had to find this information in the manual and many people will miss this. So keep this in mind.

There are so many graphical options such as VGA, DVI, HDMI which are on the board or you can use 2 way sli or 3 way crossfire solutions. I really did not like having boards that would only do either sli or crossfire because of upgrading but this does them both so no worries and again future proofing you to the best your money can buy.

There is an onboard power button, CMOS clear button, reset button, single and dual bios switches, a debug display and an onboard voltage meter which is perfect for the overclocking enthusiast.

The board comes with both a Intel LAN and Killer E2200 network connectors. I have a Killer network card in my Alienware M18x laptop and love it. I have not tested this much on this board but with the latest bios (F8) it seems to be working fine. This board is rev 1.1. The only difference in rev. 1.0 and 1.1 is the audio noise guard with LED lighting so don't worry too much about the rev 1.0 over the 1.1 The website is easy to navigate and find drivers which I fully enjoy over the ASUS website for my previous board which was always a pain.

Cons: The only con I can find is that I thought I got a DOA board and was about to pull my hair out. I finally got the bios flashed and changed some voltage settings and it is now stable. I believe my power supply is the cause of this and will be replacing it soon. I am also in the process of buying another graphics card for this build so I am not taking full advantage of this board yet.

Other Thoughts: Paired with a Intel Core i7-4770 I am extremely happy with the motherboard and the performance. I still have more testing I want to do and will update this review later but right now I feel like I my M18X Alienware laptop is slow compared and that speaks volumes IMO.

Pros: Z97X-UD5H

I have used Gigabyte boards before and they have always been very reliable to me in the past. I also hear that you can install Mac OS X on them very easily.
First thing you notice is how heavy the box is. Opening the box I see that the motherboard is protected from the accessories by an inner half box. Removing the motherboard and protecting half box you see the accessories, 4 SATA cables, install manual, user manual, driver/utilities disk SLI bridge, I/O shield and of course a Gigabyte sticker. I was surprised only a SLI bridge was included. I guess they want you to buy an Nvidia GPU.
Looking at the mother board you see 6 fan headers, 5 appear to be PWM headers. Also of value to me are the 6 usb 3.0 ports on the back and the internal usb 3.0 port also looking forward to trying out the M.2 port.
Something worth mentioning is at the top right of the board are 8 sets of 2 points, they are called pins in the manual. They are used to measure component voltages. This will be great for advanced over clocking and diagnosing. The bios switches are located there too so you can switch between bios.
The extra power for the second video card is a SATA power supply cable , that's a nice switch from the 4 pin molex connector.
At the first power up I suggest you enter bios and take a look around. You will notice an overwhelming amount of selections. The most important setting is the SATA mode as you can't change that easily afterward as just switching it will cause windows to crash at boot. I suggest AHCI mode as it is the most efficient.
This is the first board that I don't see any approved OS listings anywhere in the manuals or in the box but all the pictures in the manuals are Windows 8 or 8.1 so I used Win 8.0 to set up this board.
Installing Win 8 went smoothly. After windows installed I used a program called DriverPackSolution 14.8 to update all drivers to the latest available. Be careful when installing the drivers from the driver disk, there are a lot of programs on there you don’t need or may not want. Make sure you do a custom install if you do use the disk.

My system is a very basic system with 1 hd , 8gb ram and a Celeron cpu.

I was surprised to see that i was able to play hd movies with no problem with great sound through the hdmi port and play some low end games without any video stalling using my lowly Celeron.
The Ethernet ports are great also either one of them.

In closing this is just a great motherboard. I have had zero crashes and no problems setting this board up and no problems for the time I've been using it.

Cons: The cost maybe?

Other Thoughts: This can be used as a basic machine with built in video(with proper cpu) or maxed out to be a great game machine

Pros: *great price for such board! no gimmicks on board and all I tested works fine up to speed with no unnecessary stuff
*2x awesome gigabit NICs - intel and atheros/bigfoot, choice is yours, very helpful if someone runs Virtual Machines and wants to separate subnets or simply offload traffic from host network connection
*6x USB 3.0 ports on rear I/O (Intel and Renesas), amazingly I had zero issues with ports going through Renesas chip (wasn't the case on my older builds)
*Since BIOS F8 the UEFI is a solid overclocking tool for latest 1150 chips, minor issues detected (read below)
*very clear sound from Integrated audio (much better than on my former expensive ASUS Maximus Z77 Extreme board!)
*was able to overclock my i7 4790K to 4.7GHz with 1.27v vcore (+0.085v offset) for daily use and it is stable as rock 24/7 and under x264 stress tester
*tested with Windows 8.1 Pro x64 in Secure Boot mode, no issues! (one note on enabling Secure Boot in UEFI tho)
*came pre-loaded with BIOS F8, tested also with BIOS F9e (beta) and all seems to be working fine
*8 SATA 6G ports (2 of which are Marvel), but only 4 natively available from Intel if Sata Express or M.2 is used (6 native if those aren't utilized).

Cons: Was looking really hard for any and found literally 1 major issue (not fo rme tho) and 3 minor "issues" (rather improvement requests for BIOS/UEFI developer team):

- all fan headers look like they support PWM (4-pin sockets), but only 1 CPU fan header truly does. Personally it's not a problem for me since I run all fans from fan controller adn need just 1 PWM output from board to run them in automatic mode. However, people liking to utilize multiple PWM fans connected to board might be in trouble tho as those fans will run at full throttle always.

- my AMD Radeon RP1866 memory kit (1866MHz 2x 8GB natively rated at 9-10-9-27 3T @ 1.50v) were unable to load XMP timings as per manufacturer sticker, because BIOS does not support 3T command rate (tried it manually too, no dice), however those same sticks with XMP enabled still worked fine (and tested clear error-free under MemTest86+ 4.20) with automatically accepted by BIOS timings of 9-10-10-27 2T. My request would be to add native support for 3T command rate to BIOS so such sticks as mine could fly as rated per sticker at their finest.

- enabling Secure Boot in BIOS/UEFI is a little over-complicated, first (only available in Classic Mode) requries selecting Windows 8 OS mode, then requires one additional step, one must switch to Secure Boot Custom mode, then scroll down to Keys submenu and load/install the default keys, then the Secure Boot mode can be switched back to Standard (and all works fine since). Default Keys must be loaded every time the CMOS is cleared or new revision of BIOS is flashed. Would be nice if this toggle was available in Smart mode too or simply the deaults were already Win8 and keys pre-loaded, so user would only decide if Secure Boot is enabled or disabled.

- would be also nice if Gigabyte was applying up-to-date CPU microcode patches for 1150 family in their recent BIOSes. I found out that latest BIOSes, both the official F8 and beta F9e are missing the last 3 CPU microcode updates, they come with Haswell microcode revision 19, while there are newer ones out there (1A, 1B and 1C).

Other Thoughts: It seems there might be still K-SKU CPU stability issues above vcore 1.33v AND with power-saving features enabled (C-states, EIST, C1E), that might result in random reboot under stress with BSOD 101, I found that disabling power saving features (all C-states) in BIOS/UEFI usually stabilizes the processor if the VCORE is truly enough and VRIN is bumped up to keep enough delta (e.g. default cushion of 0.6v above vcore). It would be nice if another BIOS update patch added some more stability to higher K-SKU clocks with power saving featues enabled.
Example of my unstable clock was multiplier 48x and vcore of 1.37v, unstable with C-states enabled, stable with C-states disabled. There also was a certain dead spot on vcore at exactly 1.34v, unstable at all, while former 1.33v was "almost" stable. COuld have been my CPU problem too, since Haswell has the IVR on the die. It could be all CPU dependent, but it could also mean there is still something about the board/bios that is responsible for such behavior.

I can see how all K-SKU owers were complaining on random reboots on pre-F8 BIOSes, chips were running with power saving features enabled, even with low overclocks the vcore was bumped up high (1.4v?) with potentially not enough VRIN and power saving features (C-states, C1E, EIST) enabled.

From other things, I love using the new graphical UEFI mode (Smart HD), but I seem to be missing 2 features here and for altering those 2 things I always had to switch to Classic mode, features are related to Boot sequences and Secure Boot. Only in Classical mode I can switch to Windows 8 mode and enable Secure Boot and only here I can also disable the CWM (which I don't need at all). All the rest is available in Smart HD, great work on that, I love the new UEFI!

Pros: Audiophile friendly: My #1 pro for this board, personally, is the built-in DAC/audio amplifier. I have a set of hard-to-drive AKG headphones. This onboard amp is so capable that, yes, maxed out there is some overdriving- that comes with the territory. But I have headphone amps and DACs that have never driven these headphones so well- one of which cost nearly as much as this board. If you told me I could buy a great solid state headphone DAC/amplifier that doubled as a Gigabyte motherboard, I wouldn’t think twice about getting it.

Amazing BIOS interface. I’m coming from a Gigabyte UD3 board with the older interface. The new one includes a cursor and numerous features. It’s still not up to some enhanced MSI features I’ve used with the primitive, bult-in OS. The cursor is kind of annoying, however.

OC’s like a champ. I have a Haswell i5K processor pushed to 4.3GHz and my RAM is pushed to 1866Mhz (where, on my old Gigabyte board it underclocked my memory to 1300Mhz and crashed like crazy when I tried to OC even to the RAMs rated speed..1600 or 1800.) You can also OC and set timing in pairs. Great if you mix and match RAM in pairs.

Fan headers, fan headers everywhere. Well, there are more of them, at least. Before, I had adapters everywhere converting power plugs to fan headers. I was able to remove all adapters and plug directly to the board. It cleaned up so much clutter in my case that it’s actually OCD-friendly now.

M.2 SATA connector. I don’t have one of these, but I can definitely see myself getting one in the future as they’re popularized and practical.

You get a SATA port, you get a SATA port, SATA ports for everyone! I have a few 2TB drives, an OS drive, and a 4TB. While this may not be normal, this board can handle even those odd situations.

3-year warranty. In technological terms, when all the components you put into this board are one or two generations old, this board will still be under warranty. If you buy the black edition, then a 5-year warranty pushes that further. Let that sink in.

“Execute Disable Bit” protection if you have a processor to support it.

Dual gigabit + Killer Network Manager = beastly networking. I read elsewhere that you couldn’t use both LANs at the same time. Hogwash. I installed the Killer driver and software from Atheros, connected both Ethernet cables, highlighted them in Control Panel -> Network Connections, then right click and “Bridge Connections.” My speedtest was a typical 50mbit down and measly 3mbit up, typical cable speeds. But the Killer Network Manager allows you to sort internet priority by application. So streaming 1080p content to my home network from my computer through SMB can use both Ethernet ports and I can set the priority as lower than my gaming, if I so choose, with the Killer software. It’s sort of a QoS at the source. There are numerous possibilities with dual LAN.

Cons: There are no serious cons with this board, in my experience. It is a solid 5-star board and I am extremely impressed. I do have a couple small gripes, however.

Most of the fan headers are on the bottom of the board. For those of us with “ceiling fans” in our cases, it’s a “bit of a stretch” to reach the bottom of the case. I had to plug my CPU fan into one of the lower headers and used the extra CPU fan headers for one of the top fans (and removed the other for the time being.) Be sure to have some extensions for the fan cables and if you need to order them, make sure to get 4-pin connections if you need them. Some fans are three, some are four.

PCIe x8/x8. I now it’s a tedious gripe, but 16x/8x would have been reassuring. Even my old Gigabyte board had it. The performance increase is marginal but at $170…why not even dial x16?

Bloatware on the driver disk. Why, Gigabyte? I use Google Chrome and Drive but why try to force it on end users? It also automatically selects Norton for install. One pro about building your own PC is not having the bloatware pre-installed. I accidentally clicked “express install” and immediately regretted it. It ran through installing everything WITH NO WAY OF CANCELLING. I ultimately restarted my computer to get it to stop..But I was greeted with freshly installed Norton and it was still installing the rest of the software! I had to let it play out and go through uninstalling. Whatever you do, do not click “Express Install” unless you plan to install all the applications included on the disk. It even broke my Google Drive and I went to class not realizing my homework wasn’t synced when I needed my notes! I usually go to manufacturer sites to download drivers instead of using a disk. They’re always up to date and you can avoid bloatware. To be thorough, I used the disk so I would have an opinion on it…which is very negative.

No onboard eSATA. This isn’t a con, either, because eSATA will probably be legacy soon. But with all those USB3.0 ports, you’d think they could have made one of them an eSATA for compatibility. I have a multi-card reader + eSATA. They’re like $10 and highly recommended if you need accessible eSATA.

Other Thoughts: It’s pricey but worth it for the durability and warranty. With this board, I switched a system from an AMD FX-8350 and Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 to an i5-4690K, pushed my RAM to 1866, processor to 4.3GHz on air, and OC’d my onboard graphics to 1350Mhz but haven’t researched enough to know the limits on that.

With style, in my experience GB’s UltraDurable series of boards are unlikely to disappoint. The components are visibly sound and the traces on the PCB are clearly layered for protection. This isn’t like the days of old, green PCBs where you could damage something with the slip of a screwdriver across the surface. There is a stylish streak of orange light on the board. (Look at the 360-view here on Newegg. Scroll all the way left. The faint line behind the speaker plugs/screw hole lights up a soft orange color.) It’s obvious that Gigabyte but a great effort into making sure this particular board is exceptional in quality and performance.

Other specs are:
XFX 6950 2GB Double-D crossfired with MSI Radeon 6950 (unlocked to 6970)
2x8GB AMD 1866MHz RAM and 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz RAM (Both clocked at 1866, stable.)
Fatal1ty 750w PSU

These components are AMD friendly. Yet they perform better than the AMD processor ever pushed them. With more SATA ports, I took a couple drives from a dual-bay external and put them in my box. My system is cleaner and nicer than ever and I hadn’t realized before that it was even cluttered.

Some tips I found:
Set your allocated onboard graphics memory higher if you’re going to use it. Even if not, if you have a lot of RAM it wouldn’t hurt anyway. The default is 64MB.

Under M.I.T -> PC Health Status enable the CPU temperature warning. Not necessary for everyone but not a bad idea to keep in case something goes wrong inside your case and you don’t have to fry your processor before you realize it.

Sidenote: This board is compatible with OSX Mavericks. In testing, everything from both NICs, sound, power management, onboard graphics, etc worked without problems. Just load optimal defaults in BIOS, disable VT-d, and be sure not to generate PStates and CStates after installing. Delete AppleHDA.kext and do not install the Killer LAN driver if you plan to update to 10.9.4. (This is for testing and development purposes, of course. Check local laws about running OSX on non-Apple hardware.)

To this day I recommend the UD series after other brands failed over the years. Coming from the older 990FXA-UD3 to this it’s clear that GB is maintaining quality throughout the UltraDurable series while adding new features. They had different versions of this board for overclocking, gaming, and the black edition. Look at different features, shop around, read reviews, check compatibility, and find what works for you.

Pros: There are a lot of impressive features to cover so I'll try to go over most of them here. I haven't had a long time to play with this board, but I do have a good handle on it as of now.

First of all, I love the aesthetics. It's just a sexy looking board in my opinion. Some people may not like the gold heat sinks, but I think they look sweet. (FYI, there is an all black version of this board available). First thing I noticed was how heavy the box was. This is due to the large heat sinks used on this board to cool the VRM's and the chipset. They are definitely of a high-quality.

The support for M.2 and Sata Express storage is quite notable. This isn't very relevant right now, but in the future it's definitely going to matter. The way it works is there is an automatic switch that governs whether the M.2, Sata Express, or two SATA 6Gb/s ports are enabled. In other words, you can choose to install one M.2 drive, one Sata Express drive, or just use the two SATA 6Gb/s ports for two other devices instead.

There are six SATA 6Gb/s ports offered by the chipset that support RAID 0/1/5/10, and two more 6Gb/s ports from the Marvell 88SE9172 controller that support RAID 0/1. These ports are color coated to signify whether they are from the chipset or external controller, which is useful.

Eight total USB 3.0 ports (four from the chipset and four from the Renesas Hub). That's plenty of ports for most of us.

Dual BIOS chips with a switch to select either one. This is a godsend if one chip becomes corrupted. You can simply switch to the other BIOS and flash the other chip to repair the corruption. Definitely gives you piece of mind, especially when you get into some heavy overclocking.

12 phase power design is very sophisticated. In addition to that, the 60A rated sealed ferrite-core chokes and 10K "durable black" electrolytic capacitors should equate to a very stable motherboard in general. Overall the build quality is exceptional. The soldering is top-notch.

Supports 2-way SLI with Geforce cards or up to 3-way Crossfire with AMD GPU's. There is a SATA power connector adjacent to the SATA ports, which is used solely to provide more power for multi-GPU setups. This is very welcomed indeed.

The UEFI BIOS is simply wonderful. I really like the orange on black look to it. Being able to take screenshots and update the BIOS directly from a USB flash drive is great. Anyone upgrading from a standard non-UEFI BIOS will be blown away by those features. When it comes to overclocking and configuring peripherals, I find that the "classic mode" is still the best route to go. That said, I love what Gigabyte has done with their BIOS overall.

Built-in graphics hardware supports 4K and has built in DVI-D and HDMI ports. Two NIC's are built in as well, which is typically only seen on ultra high-end boards. One of the NIC's uses Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2201 software, which is supposed to reduce ping for online gaming.

Cons: Doesn't support 3-way SLI with Nvidia GPUs. While 3-way Crossfire is supported, it wouldn't be recommended on this board as it doesn't feature a PLX chip. Stick with 2-way setups on this board...

Had some audio distortion with the volume at 100%. Perhaps this will be remedied in a driver update, however it is there for now.

Automatic overclocking features built into the BIOS are insanely aggressive with the voltages. Haswell and Devil's Canyon CPU's tend to run hot as it is, so I don't see these higher voltages working out in most scenarios. Manual overclocking works out much better with this board though, as is the case with any board really.

The accessories included are really sparse... All you get is an I/O shield, manual + quick start guide, two-way SLI bridge, software CD, and four SATA cables. In Gigabyte's defense, this is how they can keep the cost down considering that this is a mid-range board with high-quality components. They have to make cuts somewhere to reach this price point, and thankfully they didn't skimp out on the actual hardware.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had enough time with this board to get into some serious overclocking. That said, I was able to hit 4.5 Ghz on all the cores stable (for the most part anyway). It passed all the stress tests I administered but I will need more time to call it 100% stable.

That said, this board has all the tools needed to reach a maximum overclock. It will just take time to master the detailed BIOS settings and use them all to your advantage. I should note that the software included with this board has some useful utilities. It offers everything from

a USB blocker utility to cloud services (which includes remotely overclocking your PC from an Android or iOS smartphone or tablet). I haven't tested the software thoroughly yet, but I gave it a quick rundown and I'm interested in what's there.

Definitely recommend this board for those looking for a great mid-range board with high-end features. Extreme overclockers or gamers that want to run 3-way mutli-GPU set-ups need to look elsewhere though.

5 out of 5 eggsIntegrated efficiency / support: EXCEPTIONAL!

Pros: Oops, the instillation didn’t go well requiring two telephone calls to Gigabyte technical support. I was amazed; hold time was minimal (picked up on the third ring). I was paired with technicians who were articulate, knowledgeable, good-natured & understanding. The first suggested remedy didn’t solve the problem, requiring a second call. I was told to dissemble the system, put the MB on top of the box it came in; connect the two power connections and (case) power switch lead, see if it powered up and stayed on, it did.

After which, I reinserted the MB in the case, putting things back; turning it on after each step until the source of the problem was discovered. Phone support was excellent; the technician said if this didn’t resolve the problem, their warrantee replacement policy doesn’t require getting the problematic part first. Required is credit card assurance it’ll be returned. That’s excellent customer service; thankfully, I didn’t have to use it.

A product is only as good as the folks which stand behind it, in this case, they’re extraordinary and so are their products. The MB’s back panel has “2” x RJ45; “6“ x USB 3.0 + 2 x USB 2.0; HEMI & DVI; an optical port (+ more). Top down view attention grabbers were seven (7) expansion slots, four memory slots (supporting up-to 32GB), debug indicator, attractive heat sinks and well-defined on-board descriptions.

Early adapters can transition to UTV (resolution of 3840 X 2160) without spending a lot of money; this MB has the underpinnings to do the job very well “without” the necessity to utilize expansion slot/s.

This Gigabyte motherboard provides built-in 4K support w/ HD Graphics via HDMI 1.4, which’ll deliver 4K video limited to 30 frames per second (or 30Hz) - versus - HDMI 2.0 (the latest HDMI) increases bandwidth up to 18Gbps and supports 4K Ultra HD at 50/60 fps. Both support 7.1-channel sound, this (HDMI 1.4) will adequately accommodate the current breed of UTVs and computer monitors. This motherboard is a befitting foundation for an amazing home theater; add (ideally) an ultra-high-definition television & premium audio system - abracadabra – an experience which parallels or exceeds many theaters.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: The usual Microsoft OS licensing hassle didn’t materialize. Recycling the operating system usually a time-consuming nightmare - this time - it wasn’t. Plugged in a hard drive with an operating system installed, a message generated by the BIOS appeared; I clicked the appropriate line; it worked perfectly without the customary Q & A Microsoft suspicion.

Although there are seven expansion slots, I doubt many will be used; with wired connectivity, perhaps, other than a WIFI adapter to monitor network/s. The vast majority of heretofore, extras are included in this neat package. I’m not a gamer nor am I interested in over clocking; my concern is integrated efficiency: Faster startup times, support for drives larger than 2.2 TB, high-performance networking, onboard debug display, 4K Ultra HD Support w/ exceptional audio.

If you haven’t seen UTV, check it out, most likely you'll want one to your bucket list; 4K displays are extraordinary. With UTV being rolled out, computer monitors are also. I speculate 4K displays will displace PC touch screens; need or want a new motherboard; this is the futuristic way to go.

I’ve installed perhaps a dozen motherboards; this one caught me by surprise; it’s the first I’ve seen, which was illumined. If you have any trepidation about installing a motherboard, be assured, there’re understanding folks awaiting your phone call; ready to walk you through any problems, which may arise.
