There is nothing more harmful to the longevity of your PC than moisture, and most parts of the world experience moisture in the air as humidity at some point during the year. GIGABYTE 9 series motherboards have been designed to make sure that humidity is never an issue, incorporating a new Glass Fabric PCB technology that repels moisture caused by humid and damp conditions.

Glass Fabric PCB technology uses a new PCB material which reduces the amount of space between the fiber weave, making it much more difficult for moisture to penetrate compared to traditional motherboard PCBs. This offers much better protection from short circuit and system malfunction caused by humid and damp conditions.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Motherboard I've Ever Had

Pros: Looks nice, lot's of controls in BIOS (I'd say way too many controls - who needs THREE different BIOS config layouts???)

Cons: Non-stop issues. Started with F8 BIOS:
1. SATA ports 6 and 7 (controlled by Marvell chip) are unusable. I was unable to connect both a SATA BD-RW drive and a SATA SSD to the controller. It would see the BD-RW only if it was the only thing connected. As soon as I connected the SSD drive (SanDisk), the motherboard would no longer see the BD-RW drive. If only an SSD is connected to port 6 (nothing on port 7), after Windows CrystalDisk Benchmark and ATTO showed only a max of 350MB/Sec read and and 250MB/Sec write. After moving SSD to port 5 (intel chip), and moving BD-RW drive back to port 6 (Marvel chip), and left port 7 (Marvel chip) unused. After installing Windows 10 in that configuration I was getting 550MB/Sec read and 500MB/Sec write. So Marvell SATA ports are twice as slow as Intel.
2. Intel RAID controller keps losing 3 out of 5 drives (4TB HGST RAID drives) in a RAID 5 volume that I was trying to create using UEFI RAID. Installed Windows 10, install Intel RST driver, within an hour, RAID volume status changed from 'Initialize' to 'Failed', and three of five drives were no longer RAID members. Tried again - failed again.

So now I had to issues with F8 BIOS: unable to use ports SATA 7 and 8 at the same time (at least not for a BD-RW and and an SSD drive at the same time), slow perf with SSD-only, and UEFI RAID keeps loosing drives. On the positive side, I was able to set my Team Xtreme DDR-2400 RAM to 2400, and was able to set the correct timings (10-12-12-31). RAM seemed stable with the F8 BIOS.

I decided to try upgrading to F9 BIOS. That was a bad mistake.
1. No improvements on Marvel SATA ports (ports 7 and 8).
2. Now (with the F9 BIOS) I am unable to use UEFI RAID. As soon as I would go to the UEFI RAID, the Marvel chip would no longer detect the BD-RW drive... So no way to install Windows. (OK, I now I probably could've tried the USB drive route, but I do want usable DVD-RW drive).
3. OK, went with legacy RAID mode (where you enter the RAID BIOS via Ctrl+I). Created RAID-5 array. It took it a day to initialize (OK, it's a 15TB array). It initialized successfully, didn't lose any drives. However, it's got HORRIBLE perf, 25MB/sec read. Each drive individually is getting 200MB/sec read. RAID-5 shouldn't be that much slower. So RAID is unusable on this board.

4. To top it off, the system started getting stuck in the BIOS. If I reset the BIOS (I actually have to take the battery out), it resets to defaults and is fine for a bit. However, as soon as I power off, if I try to power on again, it goes back into the reboot cycle. My best guess is that it's the same reboot issue that several other people have mentioned into their reviews.

Other Thoughts: To summarize - the board is flaky and unusable. I am hitting one set of issues with BIOS F8, and a different (worse) set of issues with BIOS F9. To make it worse, I can't go back to BIOS F8 since they disabled going back...
I'll be contacting their support, but so far I am not only disapointed, I am disgusted. I always thought Gigabyte was a reputable company. I am not so sure anymore. We will see how their support handles this.

Note, I am not a hardware pro, but I do have an MS in computer science and have been building computers for the last 20 years (literally, since about 1995). So I got quite a bit of experience with hardware.

4 out of 5 eggsGood so far

Pros: Good feature set. Looking forward to dropping in an M.2 SSD.

Cons: Had to update BIOS in order to get it to work with my GTX750 video card. (BIOS F8 version to F10) Very disappointed that it wouldn't work with a Gigabyte card right out of the box. They have both been around long enough.

4 out of 5 eggsRedoing earlier review

Pros: I complained earlier because my rebates were being disallowed for some unknown reason. Figured I'd try again for the heck of it and they went through. No idea why the difference, numbers catching up in the systems? Anyway, very good luck with the motherboard thus far. Apologize for the earlier review.

Cons: Deducted one star because the software throws an error on my computer every boot up. Searching seems to show it's a common problem. I just click it away, but still ... :)

1 out of 5 eggsVery disapointed

Pros: Purchased the board in early July as a replacement for a un3h board that was doa. It was a great board for a month.

Cons: From a cold start the Mobo will throw 37 and 4F errors. I need to reset the bios every time and sometimes several times before it will post.No changes in hardware since day one and it hasn't been overclocked.Tried all the normal one stick of ram, just keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Left a message on their esupport site and I'm still waiting for a reply. I really cannot afford to rma another board and wait two weeks.I need this for my job.Based on my experience in the last month I'd buy a Mobo from someone else.

2 out of 5 eggsCheated, but a decent product

Pros: Motherboards are working well thus far, although only in use for about a week.

Cons: Bought 2 and the rebate directions specified 2 per household. Filled out the rebate form which only allowed 1 instead of 2. It then requested the serial number, but would not take either of the 2 purchased and couldn't go further without them. Not happy.
