1 out of 5 eggsInstability issues, support isn't very helpful

Pros: See other thoughts

Cons: See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: There seems to be a well documented issue with this board and any k-sku intel processor. The issue is related to turbo boost, but I suspect it goes deeper. When the CPUs push into their rated Turbo boost range, the default voltage values supplied on the BIOS cause the CPU to crash. I checked with their support and they released a BIOS update to help with this issue, but my board shipped with the F8 BIOS update. A quick scan of the interwebs shows that many users are still experiencing issues with their k-sku CPUs after the F* BIOS update.

I contacted support at Gigabyte and went through the deeply unhelpful rigamarole of: "Try default BIOS settings", "I did"; "Is your BIOS up to date", "Yes, its version F8, the version your company claims will fix the issue I'm having"; "its your ram", "I tried other ram"; "Its your power supply", "I tried another PSU"; "its a thermal issue", "I have a noctua nh-u14s in push pull and temps are constantly being monitored. Even under full load they rarely get into the 60C range"

Finally support said "disable turbo boost". I did and the stability issues went away. Now as far as Gigabyte is concerned thats the end of their support. They want me to leave my i7-4790k continuously locked at 4.0Ghz. I do NOT deem this an acceptable solution. I did not purchase this board and CPU to be locked at 4.0Ghz and I will not turn off built in features of my CPU as a solution.

I am wholeheartedly disappointed with Gigabyte, their support and this board. As a long time supporter of Gigabyte all I can say is I cannot see myself purchasing another product from them after this experience.

It would seem I now have an expensive paperweight.

4 out of 5 eggsWondering?

Pros: Nice board, but not for beginners.

Cons: The board was defective and had to be returned to Newegg.

Other Thoughts: Newegg received it on a Monday morning at 8:30am and by Friday night they have not even opened the package. This is not good Newegg service, something is broke!

5 out of 5 eggsBulletproof Hackintosh MoBo

Pros: This card has a great feature set and Gigabyte's awesome durability. It was easy to set up, has lots of SATA 6 and USB 3.0 and USB 2 ports, fan headers and everything else I need at a good price, especially with the $20 rebate at the time I bought it. It even has cool lights for the inner geek.

Cons: This board has the same problem as the rest of Gigabyte's products: It doesn't tuck me in at night.

Other Thoughts: This is the second Gigabyte mobo I've built a video editing Hackintosh around and it was far easier than the first and just as bullet-proof durable. It's running an i7-4790K CPU, a GTX760 card, six internal spinning drives, one SSD and a BD burner without a hiccup in three months.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall Hiccup

Pros: Great board with lots of excellent features. Runs fast.
Using Seagate hybrid drive, boots in mere seconds.

Cons: Small problem is often goes to sleep and loses video.
I did not have this problem with onboard video but recently added a R9 285 video card..

Other Thoughts: Think this is a bios problem and have not looked into updating it yet.

5 out of 5 eggsNice board , great support from Gigabyte

Pros: Loaded with features found on much more expensive boards.
Dual Bios as well as an on off switch on the Motherboard is a real plus. Basically you can test the board out before breaking down an old computer and installing this board.
The bios is feature packed and straight forward. Overclocking in the BIOS is a breeze. If you overclock do it there and not with the software they provide for Windows,

Cons: System fan connections are at the far end of the board so if you have a three pin case fan you may need an extension. The Sata cables are set up so getting the cables plugged in is not easy unless you plug them into the board prior to installing the board. Another user mentioned about the USB keyboard not working until the drivers were installed, I had the same problem but did have an old PS/2 keyboard.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte support is fantastic. I was careless and bent the CPU pins when I was installing the back plate for a Coolermaster EVO. I sent the board back , because I also had a broken CPU pin they installed a new CPU socket for no charge ! If you get the Black screen the simple way to fix it is to just clear the bios with the CMOS_SQ button. You can also try and boot off the secondary Bios. Both come in handy especially if you crash the BIOS because of a failed overclock.

1 out of 5 eggsBoot problems, lack of support

Pros: Difficult to say, given problems in getting it to run.

Cons: I'm in the same boat with many others, stuck with a black screen on bootup, with no way to progress any further.

Getting a motherboard to simply sign on for the BIOS settings menu should not be such a difficult thing. Manufacturers should take special care to make sure a motherboard at least gets that far, as it's rather a show-stopper if the BIOS is not accessible.

For example, I have heard that problems with stalls on some versions of this board stem from default running voltages being set very high. That's a mistake that should not be made to begin with, especially if it impacts the boot cycle. And of course there is no way to change the voltage via the BIOS if the BIOS menu does not come up.

There is a small 2-digit 'debug' display on the motherboard, which is an excellent idea---if it would display helpful, coherent info about problems. But in this case, the message is vague, and Gigabyte's own phone support doesn't seem to know what the codes mean. Nor did they have practical advice for solving the boot problem ("reset the CMOS" and "remove RAM"--same end result, of course). They've got to get support techs who know their products, and know how to interpret their own error codes.

A frustrating experience. If Gigabyte can't get back with good technical help within a couple days, I'm afraid this board is going back to Newegg.

Other Thoughts: I was also told by Gigabyte techs that this board is not compatible with KVM switches, which is a problem for many professional applications. If this is really the case, then it is not suitable for many workstations, software development environments, or art/music applications. This is also unfortunately, since the feature set appears to be perfect for all of those things otherwise.

5 out of 5 eggsGigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H

Pros: BIOS is awesome easy to use, Layout is almost perfect, Excellent quality of manufacture, Nice labeling on the connector template for the case. OC is easy to implement for memory and processor.

Cons: The only con i can come up with is the placement of the PCE Epxress connector. There are 2, before and after the main pci connector for the primary video card... would have prevered a slot towards the end of the board so that any pci express card wouldn't have to be close to the video card. This however is a personal preference and doesn't constitute any loss of eggs.

Other Thoughts: This has been by far one of the best mombos I've gotten in a long time. You can not go wrong with purchasing this board.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Motherboard

Pros: This motherboard needs more attention. It is a great motherboard and much cheaper then other boards of its same tier. Absolutely no problems with it, booted up like a dream. Some reviews say it doesn't recognize USB keyboards or mice before you use a PS/2 keyboard or mouse, but I have had no such trouble. Definitely will buy more Gigabyte products in the future.

Cons: The padding on the I/O panel is very thick. It scared me installing the motherboard because I was having to push very hard to get it to line up with the holes in the case. There are two ports that offer eSATA, but by make of the motherboard, if you use one the other one does not work.

Other Thoughts: Plug in the SATA drive cables before you install a GPU. The ports are located right underneath the end of where the GPU sits, making access very limited. If you put the GPU in first it will be very hard to plug the cables in as you cannot see the ports.
