Humidity Protection with New Glass Fabric PCB

There is nothing more harmful to the longevity of your PC than moisture, and most parts of the world experience moisture in the air as humidity at some point during the year. GIGABYTE 9 series motherboards have been designed to make sure that humidity is never an issue, incorporating a new Glass Fabric PCB technology that repels moisture caused by humid and damp conditions.

Glass Fabric PCB technology uses a new PCB material which reduces the amount of space between the fiber weave, making it much more difficult for moisture to penetrate compared to traditional motherboard PCBs. This offers much better protection from short circuit and system malfunction caused by humid and damp conditions.

GA-Z97-HD3

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid Gigabyte!

Pros: None

Cons: Avoid Gigabyte at ALL COSTS! Unreliable products and horrific customer service. Their motherboard failed. Their warranty is more expensive than it looks. Total cost = retail price + retail shipping + cost of recovering data + cost of shipping to RMA center + cost of replacement motherboard. Just talked for over an hour to Chuck Liu, their service manager in CA, Maggin Lin, warranty manager, and Gary Tam, operations manager. According to Gary, He's the one running the whole US Gigabyte division. No one at Gigabyte can offer a truly no cost warranty. If your Gigabyte product breaks, you'll need to pay at least shipping to get it fixed. Do not take the chance with Gigabyte products. And they hang up on you if they can't solve your problems.

Other Thoughts: GIGABYTE GA-H97N-WIFI motherboard failed after 10 months. Product includes 3-year warranty, one of the reason for my purchase. Very common problem with Gigabyte motherboards, according to Google. Warranty policy essentially requires customers to pay additional fees in order to receive warranty repairs. Called their customer care. Chuck Liu (service manager), Maggie Lin (warranty manager), Gary Tam (operations manager) all stated that the policy of requiring customers to pay additional fees to receive warranty repairs cannot be changed. Gigabyte is making defective products and selling them for profit. Attempts to have Gigabyte honor their warranty guarantee without additional charges have failed.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent MOBO

Pros: Very clean looking board.
Does what it says on the box.
Easy OC tools.

Cons: See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Not fully negative. The default view in the BIOS is unreadable to me. This is easily resolved by an FKey that enables a "classic" BIOS view.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Small, plenty of USB ports, easy to work with, plenty of other ports. I really liked the bios software

Cons: was hard to read some writing, very small complaint really

Other Thoughts: I was quite surprised at how small this board was. For an ATX, it is quite compact.

1 out of 5 eggsDoA board.

Pros: Looks good? IDK

Cons: This board sucks. I got it, and hooked everything, put it in the case and waited for the moment of truth. I press the power button, turns on for a few seconds, then turns off!!! What?! It keeps turning on and off and on and off on a cycle. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I even bought a new power supply to find it was the motherboard all along. I removed everything except cpu, 1 ram stick, psu, and motherboard. Nope. Everything shuts down.

Other Thoughts: There needs to be an easy fix or I will return this item right away.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing for the price

Pros: First build, Could not be easier even though when i was building it i had no idea what i was actually doing. The audio led was a nice surprise because I didn't know about it at the time. Not really any major problems to complain about.

Cons: As mentioned, this was my first build, I had a lot of trouble with the I/O port which was very flimsy. A big problem that I had was bios updates. The main bios would blue screen during updates and I had to swap the Bios. Still not a big problem though, 2 minutes of googling can fix this.

Other Thoughts: It can overclock my 4690k. If i could redo my first build I would pick this motherboard again.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Price, but mine was an open box, and not allowed to review. so I posted here instead.

Awesome OSX support for hackintosh users. 10.10.3 UEFI Clover seems 100% woprking. even sleep after dead wake which usually had audio issues, but not here.

Cons: None really. Everything went very smooth. even the Smart App updated my whole system which I never got 100% working on previous Gigabyte (or any other manufacturer) motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Ignore user who states motherboards come with screws and standoffs. This is nonsense.

Motherboard screws and standoffs come with PC cases. Each PC case manufacturer makes them different.

Stand offs can be long or short, not to mention fat or skinny screws plus fine or coarse threads even metric or US.

There is just no way a motherboard maker can know all of these details to be able to provide screws or standoffs.

4 out of 5 eggsso far so good - no screw kit included

Pros: I put this together with i7 -4970k processor, corsair RAM. and Corsair SSD. It booted up Windows 8 FAST - like 8 seconds! So far it seems stable - haven't oc'd it yet. I'm knocking off an egg - see below

Cons: Gigabyte doesn't include a screw kit!! - BAD FORM. Yup no stand off or screw kit. Every other main board I've ever owned
comes with this basic item included.

Other Thoughts: I will update this review as time goes forward, but so far I'm satisfied. This is a good, solid, Z-97 board that was inexpensive. It lacks many of the bells and whistles of other Z-97 boards (m.2 slot,, SATA Express, extra PCI-e slots, USB 3.1), but most of the extra frills will not be missed by average users. Sound quality and Network speed are surprisingly very good.

2 out of 5 eggsGood While it Worked

Pros: The board, while it worked, performed well enough. It didn't have very many bells and whistles, which is exactly what I wanted. The price was also very good. The UEFI bios is very nice, though I couldn't get the automatic overclocking feature to work. Easy install.

Cons: The board has an odd form factor that makes it not take up as much space as it should. This can be a bother for those with full-size towers, or even mid-size ones. The bios can be confusing to navigate. The manual is only brief. The board also lacks any sort of means to communicate errors without an external speaker.

The biggest con, however, is that the board died after just one month of use. I checked everything multiple times, but the board ended up being the problem, sadly. I was very disappointed. The only thing that I could get from plugging it up was a small, very dim flashing at the bottom towards the front panel headers - what I assume was the LEDs trying to turn on.

I was further disappointed to find that GIGABYTE's warranty did not cover the board, for whatever reason, and it was just outside the window for return.

Other Thoughts: I'm disappointed, primarily because of the time I had to wait to get a new motherboard (the ASUS Z97-A), but I was pleased with the board while I had it. Perhaps another buyer would have a better board with a longer lifespan, but this one failed after just a month, sadly. Nonetheless, the price (just $90 when I bought it) is unbeatable for the quality of the board and chipset. If you have a bit of extra money, however, I strongly recommend taking one step up and purchasing one of the motherboards in the $130 range (MSI, ASUS, and even GIGABYTE all have good ones).

5 out of 5 eggsA Fine Motherboard

Pros: Decent board, although nothing too fancy. I've had it for a month and had no problems with it yet. Construction feels very solid, color scheme is nice (in my opinion).

Cons: None
