5 out of 5 eggsgreat board, update your firmware

Pros: best mobo i have ever owned. i like it better than ASUS or ASRock.

Cons: needed to update firmware (to F7f) for my Samsung XP941 to work. not the best support for this particular M.2 SSD drive.

1 out of 5 eggsbad system fan headers and bios issues with k SKU processors

Pros: It didn't get stepped on in shipping

Cons: 2 of the system fan headers don't work. Board is essentially garbage for my purpose as result and newegg is going to charge me for return shipping which is terrible customer service. If I go through gigabyte then I'll just get a refurb . either way I played for a functioning board and didnt get one.

Other Thoughts: I've bought gigabye boardboards for my last three builds , this will likely be my last though.

4 out of 5 eggsBeware of the BIOS

Pros: Works great...now (explained below)
-Easily adjusted my RAM up to the advertised 1866Mhz and timing
-Once proper BIOS was installed to support my CPU, it stabilized and runs great. (it was running at 4.32Ghz steadily back to proper clocks now)

Cons: -Con for ALL motherboards: Why can we not have an agreed upon front power button and lights pin setup. Like make it all integrated into one universal connector and have any more LEDs they want to put on the front run off a molex or 4/2 pin connector?

Personal grievance nothing against Gigabyte but rather all motherboards in general :p

Other Thoughts: Beware when you are buying this board that you make sure that your CPU is supported. It comes with the F4 BIOS and my CPU (i7-4790k 4.0Ghz) isn't supported until F5 and up.

Lead to random shut downs when trying to do anything even remotely intensive (oddly enough it shut down whenever I tried to use internet speed test)

After freaking out, adjusting RAM voltages, speeds, taking one stick out etc. messing with GPU drivers and re-seating it, all I had to do was flash the BIOS. Which once I figured it out was very simple; download to a flashdrive and use the integrated quick flash.
Took the egg off for that reason, I don't know why manufacturers can't ship products with the latest drivers. Especially with the price tags these days.

Rant over, just wanted to give a heads up,other than that "issue" it works great!

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Board - Poor Customer Service

Pros: Let me say first this is a great board, you will not be disappointed unless you get a DOA (it happens sometimes) or a faulty pin on USB (explained in cons). This was a very easy install in Corsair Carbide 500R.

Fast shipping from Newegg as always although you guys took away Shoprunner option in favor of a slower Newegg Premier experience, wth Newegg?

Anyways back to the review of the mobo...

Board itself and all hardware runs like a dream. BIOS is highly configurable and some great options within. Be careful installing H100i with this board depending on case, may bump up against your RAM. Take your time and plan your build accordingly.

Cons: Poor customer service. Had a faulty pin 1 on USB 3 socket. Called Newegg who referred me to Gigabyte, albeit a bit rudely but rep was most likely new. Called Gigabyte 12/24/2014. Left voicemail with name, board, phone number and email. It is now 1/9/2015 and I still have had no contact from Gigabyte, not a single email or phone call to even acknowledge the problem so I am forced to write this review to give you all a heads up.

This is very disheartening because Gigabyte was highly recommended to me by a longtime customer of them. I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife and while I was able to do a workaround (USB 3 to 2 socket) the front panel USB of the case is now running at USB 2.0 speeds instead of 3.

Before anyone says anything I did inspect the board very closely and it looked fine. I triple checked to make sure I was inserting the cable properly in the right orientation, everything appeared fine but the cable would not attach properly, when I removed the cable I saw the pin was loose and immediately called Gigabyte with no answer.

At this point it would take them to send me a replacement board first so as to not leave my wife without her gaming rig to make me be a returning customer.

This is very disheartening considering I was going to do a 2nd build with this same mobo for myself very soon.

App Center does not install apps correctly. Apparently a known problem based on my research. There may be a workaround for this but I haven't had a chance to look because my wife LOVES her new build.

Docking 1 egg for for faulty pin on a server tested board (QA anyone?) and 1 egg for poor customer service. Otherwise this is a truly great board!

Side note: Forgive my grammar, it's early and I'm exhausted.

Other Thoughts: Build:
- Corsair Carbide 500R
- Corsair RM650 PSU
- Gigabyte LGA 1150 GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK rev 1.0
- Intel Core i7 4790k 4GHz (LGA 1150)
- Corsair Platinum 2400 MHz 16GB (2x8GB)
- Corsair H100i
- Samsung 850 EVO SSD (512GB)
- Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970
- 3x Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition fans

5 out of 5 eggsWell made and well designed board

Pros: Fairly easy to install. The instructions were clear and the set up screens worked fine.

Cons: Nothing reasonable. Connecting the sata cables was a bit of struggle because of the location of the sockets with respect to other stuff on the board. If the sockets faced up rather than to the side it would have made that easier, but maybe that would cause a different set of problems. No points off for this.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after a month

Pros: Worked effectively when it was working (about 2 months).

Cons: Constant random reboots after installing it, tried dozens of fixes, talked to several experts--finally seemed to have it working correctly, until a month later I installed a new HDD. Doesn't even get to the BIOS now. Took the HDD out, reseated everything. Same problem.

Other Thoughts: Should have RMAd it when I had the chance.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes its job

Pros: Runs stably with 4 sticks of 1.6V 2133MHz RAM and a 90W 4GHz CPU.

Well placed power and fan connectors.

Cons: Uses "safe" memory settings by default. To run the memory at manufacturer's rated specs, must enable XMP in the BIOS.

SATA controller is in AHCI mode by default, which results in a no-boot with a drive that was used in a system set up for IDE mode. I have also had trouble with AHCI and RAID drives, so I don't know what AHCI is good for.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Mother Board Ever!

Pros: Has everything you need to overclock your Cpu.

Has many features to help you overclock everything just one click.

Can switch to and from classic bios.

I was even to load windows from my other build no problems.

Cons: Logo screen flashes really fast at times to get into bios. At times may even flash for a split sec.

Overclocking software may over volt your Cpu by a lot.

Fan headers are all at the bottom.

Other Thoughts: This motherboard is the best one i ever owned. It can do pretty much anything if you are into overclocking. I was able to load my windows 7 from my other build which also was a Gigabyte motherboard.

I also was able to push my Gpu at higher overclocks then my other motherboard which was little strange.

I would highly recommend this to everyone who is tired of buying motherboards that lack overclocking potential or features or even great quality board. If you are stuck on motherboards and the fan headers at the bottom is not a problem for you. Pick this one you will not regret it.

4 out of 5 eggsGIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Seems to have some good features with some future expandability MBO feels well-built and cosmetically appealing with lots SATA ports. Had the MBO just over a month and seems to be working fine with no issues and easy to install.
BIOS is easy to navigate and use. tons of features although I am use to MSI’s old BIOS on the 1156 MBO’s

Cons: Disappointed in the MBO: For the price the MBO is kind of basic with nothing more than the SATA cables, back plate, manual/install guide and a couple stickers. The MBO didn’t even come with the wire blocks for mounting your front wiring ( pwr, rst, ect..). bottom line this MBO is VERY basic in packaging as far as the NIC’s go the new MBOs they SUCK I use Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2009 and Acronis2010 for remote imaging and neither one will find the NIC’s at boot (using boot disk, or upon reboot) I found no Acronis works with NIC until 2014 I tried both 2014/2015 (trials) and both buggy I tried multiple BIOS settings with no change in NIC issue. I originally purchased a MSI z87-GD65 and it had same NIC issue so I returned it. Not certain if this issue is only with the last 2 generation Intel MBO NIC’s due to the garbage Windows 8x OS/hardware requirements/settings.
In a sense this has been a down grade from my prior build I was replacing; synthetic bench marks show significant performance improvements aside from futuremark, UNiGine valley/Heaven, and real time gamming I only noticed apx. 5-10 FPS improvement when most games on max BF3, PS2, Aion, Tribes Ascend all on max settings I already get 50-120 FPS (MMO’s still kill the GFX) shooters have insane FPS
MBO only has 2 (need 3) on-board USB 2 headers and NO fire wire/esata. Can’t doc an egg for that due to not acknowledging that at time of purchase due to focused on other features, which my MSI MBO had all these

Other Thoughts: Current build:
GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK
Intel Core i5-4690K
Corsair Neutron 256gig
WD velociraptor 250gig x3 RAID 0 r/w @ 100mb test SMOKES the SSD, R/W = 1k+/500+ Seq on crystalmark
16 gig Corsair Vengeance 1600
MSI GTX680OC
Corsair HX 1050 pwr
Corsair H80i

MBO CPU setup was to replace:
MSI P55-GD65 (1156)
Intel i5 750 2.6 - OC 4ghz
Corsair Neutron 256gig
WD velociraptor 250gig x3 RAID 0 r/w @ 100mb test SMOKES the SSD, R/W = 500+/400+ Seq on crystalmark (SATA2)
16 gig Corsair Vengeance 1600
MSI GTX680OC
Corsair HX 1050 pwr
Corsair H80i / Air cooled with CM Hype212plus which in same tower made about a 5-8c MAX temp difference from the H80i both never got over low60c

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board Hackintosh ready

Pros: Great board and Bios is great (once updated).
I picked this out for my duel boot Hackintosh and Windows 7 computer. It looks great and performs just as is listed. I have had no issues and would recommend to anyone looking for a solid duel boot motherboard for Hackintosh.

Cons: none so far
