1 out of 5 eggsall ports not durability tested?

Pros: Decent layout and easy installation. Appeared to have good construction. I had high hopes for a solid board based on my previous experience with this brand and the durability testing advertised.

Cons: DVI port apparently failing after 5-6 hours of use. Won't even display BIOS/POST and was only installed 3 days ago.

Other Thoughts: Will go with a different model and possibly different brand. Thanks to Newegg for an easy return process from a long-time customer!

1 out of 5 eggsNot so fast Buckwheat

Pros: Nice graphics, book is well done. Heavier than most boards.

Cons: Bought this board to host a Photoshop machine. 2 SSDs,, three Cavier drives for data files. Sapphire R9 200 video card which works well. Board was always kinda wonky and crashed during performance eval but eventually evened out, Fast forward and opening NEF fils (50MB) from a storage disk to the main causes the fans to run up hysterically and then the PS6 crashes. There's no log entry saying what is causing this. Ram was clean, video card check out, PSU switched out, changed the C drive twice. So'm thinking the MOBO is bad, Started a case today so we'll see how it goes but nine months us a pretty short time to kill a MOBO and all you're doing is pictures,

Other Thoughts: Not an over clocker/gamer, don't need a super Crey or the worlds greatest game machine...just a solid platform that can process files. Is that too much?

5 out of 5 eggsFeature Packed, and competitively priced.

Pros: The Good:

- Received a V1.1 with BIOS F6 pre-installed. So it was already loaded up for the i7 4790k. No BIOS flash needed.
- Price. This board is the least expensive when matched against the features it comes with. ASUS and ASROCK didnt have as many rear IO port options for the same price.
- Reviews. When I did my research once I settled on what I needed I then looked at negative reviews, DOA %, and other data. This board had nothing but stellar feedback and very few DOA #'s. I am not a fan of having to RMA things or troubleshoot, so a board that is server stress tested before it's shipped takes away some of that concern.
- BIOS. I have done several builds and I know from experience that the ASUS and Gigabyte BIOS flashing tools are very easy to use. MSi I have read nothing but headaches on so I steered clear of them. I have seen plenty of happy folks with MSi boards but there was enough negative feedback to give me pause.
- Easy Install. Fired right up, read all my components and drives.
- Features and then some. M2 port, Dual Sata Controllers, 8 Sata ports, tons of USB ports.\
- Onboard sound is decent. I have a expansion sound card that will go in later once I replace the CPU cooler.
- Fit my Corsair H60 CPU cooler on the i7 no problem.

Cons: The Bad:

- PCI port arrangement on the board. Unfortunately the way the ports are setup in order, both my PCIe slots are covered with this board. The first is covered by my radiator for my Corsair H60 Liquid Cooler. I am still deciding if I can rearrange the case to make this work so I can use that port being blocked or if I have to go back to an air based solution. Its not worth a deduction as this was a planning failure on my part. But something for anyone who has a radiator mounted to the rear of their case to consider. If its a roof mounted radiator you wont have anything blocked. The second port gets covered by the GPU in the PCI X16 3.0 slot.

Other Thoughts: I have been building computers for over 15 years. I work in a school house full of computer labs, we have every flavor of OS and chipset. So along with my months of research I had plenty of time to decide on what I wanted going into my next upgrade.

I bought this board to pair with my i7 4790k. I did months of research and I wanted to stay between $150 and $250 for my next motherboard. Previously I had in my Rig a FX8350 with a ASUS Crosshair V Formula Z ATX board. I had planned to stay with ASUS after the experience with my last board but the more research I did on their Z97 boards the features were actually lacking compared to my AMD board and they were more prone to DOA's. So I started looking at other options.

I settled on this board after months of research. And I am glad I did. Upon initially opening the package, I was surprised at the raw weight of the box. I was shocked it was so heavy. When I opened the box and held the board in hand I was impressed. Every IO port is clearly labeled, the board is very sturdy and has no flex which is nice when you start doing things like SLI or Crossfire. Wont flex on your PCI slots.

5 out of 5 eggsFine Z97 Motherboard

Pros: This is an excellent Motherboard, filled with a lot of features but certainly not the highest price Z97 offering. The board is solid, looks fantastic, and has a 5 year warranty. You get a solid mix of up to date and legacy ports/slots in this Motherboard. Fired up at once with a i7-4790K CPU and 2 X 8 Gbs of Crucial 1600 RAM. I still like having the dual LAN ports on the back, and the dual BIOS in case you really go crazy on one BIOS. The board feels quite heavy, and is not prone to much flex like I have observed on other more expensive boards. There is some peace of mind knowing that the board was fully tested before you opened up the box. I really enjoyed testing some of the support Software applications, and am finding them more useful then a gimmick. It is fantastic that this board has an application to be able to switch board SATA settings from AHCI to RAID and back, on an already OS loaded system, on the fly. Very impressive. I did not find anything that did not work on this Motherboard. I received a 1.1 Version of this board, loaded with the F6 BIOS. There is an F7 (Beta) BIOS, if you are thinking of using a PCIe X 4 SSD, in a PCIe 3.0 slot. I did not test out the on board sound, as I am using an HT Omega Fenix discrete Sound Card.

Cons: Any cons to this board, I was already aware of, due to taking my time with the research. The USB 3.0 port location and front port cable will almost certainly block the view of the numeric code read out, (in a windowed Case). Having most of the fan ports on the bottom is kind of a pain. The manual could have been a little better detailed on the features, and while the BIOS looks really cool and is totally functional, I prefer the layout of other suppliers UEFI BIOS.

Other Thoughts: Make no mistake, in that this is a true Enthusiast motherboard. There are enough adjustments to fry your components into the next Century, if that is your thing. I would buy this again. One thing to beware of, and that is the CPU Core voltage is a little "high" just out of the box, measuring 1.3 Volts. That is way too high if you are not overclocking and using water cooling. I forgot to mention, that there are even test voltage points on this Motherboard, but you will need a steady hand with your probes to test, as they are quite small. While there is not a lot of "bling" on this board, (lighted on board "Start" button, lighted led separation path for the on board sound), I think this is an incredible value for a Z97 board. I do not feel like I am missing something that other, much higher priced boards have. Need Wi Fi connection? I will buy the Wi Fi card. Please keep in mind that you only have 16 PCIe Lanes on this Motherboard, so if you do plan to go Nvidia SLI, you will not be able to use any other PCIe slots. This is my first Gigabyte Motherboard purchase, as I usually go with the big "A" brand, but I am very happy with this purchase that I am using for my new home build. No regrets.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Board

Pros: So far works as described

Cons: None noticed so yet

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte, Black, 2 RJ-45's, 5-year warranty, 3-year upgrade option...what's not to like-

This was an upgrade from a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P with an E8400 and G.Skill 1100 (PC2 8800) RAM overclocked to 4.0GHZ which has worked flawlessly since Feb. 2010-

2 out of 5 eggsBIOS seems to still be an issue?

Pros: Listed feature set; prolonged testing; expandable/availability of slots and ports; number of fan headers (with somewhat of good placement)

Cons: Apparently the BIOS isn't always up to snuff...
I've used the most current F6, the F7g beta, and even gone back to the F5 for comparison. In NONE of these situations has the CPU multiplier been able to be adjusted.

Other Thoughts: This new build includes this mobo and a 4790K. For almost two weeks I've tried variations to enable the CPU multiplier to be anything other than 40. No matter what I've tried, multiple third party software in Win7 Pro all conclude that the multiplier is never anything other than 40. Unless power saving features are enabled and then things throttle down as appropriate. Other settings I make to the BIOS, CPU freq; core voltage; manual or XMP memory changes - they all reflect correctly in Windows. But never the multiplier... Don't know if i'm going to return it for another Gigabyte brand or try someone else...

1 out of 5 eggsNewegg RMA BLOWS

Pros: ASUS Z97 Pro

Cons: UD5H DOA no POST Code A6/A9

Other Thoughts: Newegg cost me an extra 50 bucks on my build because of their return shipping charges and deducting discounts for the RMA. Hey, Newegg, news flash, YOU SENT A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. You could have worked with me and split the difference since I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars with you over the past few years, but you were greedy over 50 bucks...I tried calling and resolving this, but your reps were not willing to compromise. I hope others see this and shop elsewhere. I know I will.

5 out of 5 eggsWilling to pay more for less problems

Pros: Other than one strip of bad memory this new build worked out perfect
error code C0 was bad memory once taken out everything ran perfect

Cons: More of a detailed list of code errors and what they mean
using a search engine works fine for looking up error codes but I would like a detailed manual

Other Thoughts: I have never went cheap with a motherboard for myself and have never regretted it
