5 out of 5 eggsStable and well built.

Pros: Been using this motherboard with a 5820K and 16GB of GSkill 2400 DDR4 for the last four months. It has nice sounding clean audio, lots of USB ports, SLI/Crossfire and some fancy pants lighting.

Cons: It took a few reboots to get the RAM timings worked out. Once it was up, it has stayed up without a hitch.

Other Thoughts: Would I recommend this board? Yes.
The last two Gigabyte boards I have used have been great long lasting performers.

4 out of 5 eggsI now like this motherboard

Pros: I have found solutions to 90% of the USB issues with this MoBo and wish to revise my review of this board. previous review was "I want to like this board". Again this Mobo OCS like a beast for Micro ATX and it is built well. lots of USB ports and M.2 support.

Cons: There is still some slight issues with USB 3.0 on the board. My web cam just will not play nice with it. It still causes disconnects with mouse and keyboard. If the XHCI controller (USB 3.0) is disabled it can't boot from usb devices.

Other Thoughts: for those who are having problems with the USB you need to first start with a fresh windows load. after all the drivers are installed browse the files on the driver disk go to chipset/renesas and install that driver. for some reason this driver is not getting installed. this fixed all my USB issues except for the web cam. The board is not perfect and it needs some more work. I bet in a few BIOS updates they will have these kinks worked out. I would like Newegg to remove my previous review if possible.

1 out of 5 eggsMotherboard Issues

Pros: The motherboard looks really nice and has a very nice LED strip built into the motherboard that glows red.

Cons: USB 3.0 issues, turn on and off whenever they want...
BIOS was faulty when it came out of the box...
Kept having random shut downs, after two months of troubleshooting and RMAing my other parts, turns out it's this motherboard... BIOS GUI needs much needed improvement... Ethernet driver company doesn't release a driver for their Ethernet product anymore. So, you have to use an outdated driver. Limited on overclocking voltages...

2 out of 5 eggsHW Compatibility issues

Pros: - mATX design for 2011-3
- Looks good
- Good amp
- Support 2 M.2 slots

Cons: - USB3 issues on X99 Gigabyte boards under Windows 8.1 64-bit
- UEFI setting entry is picky on hardware attached, and will fail if it doesn't like any of your attached hardware
- Overclocking limit is somewhat lower than Asus boards

Other Thoughts: USB3.0 issue on Gigabyte X99 boards is well known, it's my bad not to research more before buying. It caused intermittent disconnect on any attached USB3 devices (front panel included) and there's no apparent way to fix it. The NEC driver is also hard to find and not listed on Gigabyte website.

The board has issues overclocking and limit is lower than ASUS boards (probably the patented socket that Asus had) even using exactly the same physical piece of CPU.

UEFI setup entry will hung if I attached my Samsung 2TB 2.5" HDD (SATA), or some of my USB thumb drives. But if I leave the HDD attached but not trying to go into UEFI setting it will work just fine.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent board, but layout could be better

Pros: -Great BIOS interface, easy to use with several views. The Smart Tweak mode is nicely done with higher resolution and smooth mouse movement.
-Dual BIOS is as simple as flipping the selector on the board.
-On-board audio is of decent quality, replaceable OP-AMP is a nice feature for audiophiles.

Cons: -Placement of PCIe 16 lanes is very close, so larger GPUs in SLI/Crossfire will run hot. With a pair of GTX 690s, a 3DMark test had the top GPU running at 96C.
-SATA configuration in conjunction with on board RAID is a bit confusing. Ports 0-1 are on the lower bank of ports, where as 2-5 are on the same block as the SATA Express port.
-Gigabyte's software leaves quite a bit to be desired, I ended up uninstalling everything but essential drivers.
-On-board Clear CMOS and Reset switches are in very close proximity and are the same size.

Other Thoughts: A word of caution, overclocked RAM that is faster than 2,666MHz requires CPU base clock adjustment, not just RAM frequency change (CPU limitation, not this board in particular). The gains for using RAM past that mark are so marginal, it doesn't end up being worth the increased cost or the need to set the base clock to either 105.15 or 125 (depending on your RAM kit, also out of the CPUs specifications for the latter).

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing board so far

Pros: - mATX x99 board
- Support for M.2 and Sata Express
- 5x fan header
- Clean black/red theme with LED control. Look great with my MSI GTX 970, G.Skill Ripjaws 4 Black RAM and H105 cooler.

Cons: - No wifi module included
- No led backplate like the ATX version of this board
- Not an Intel NIC
- Lots of connectivity located on the bottom of the board, can interfere with PCI-E cards or SLI configuration.

Other Thoughts: This is a great x99 motherboard with lots of connectivity for a mATX board. None of the cons above really justify to remove an Egg, just personal preferences.
I'm using the 5820k with a G.Skill Ripjaws 4 2400mhz 16Gb ram kit. Everything detected at first boot with the right settings.

3 out of 5 eggsNot SLI Friendly!

Pros: Motherboard is stable, no overclocking yet. Beats the EVGA X99 Micro I was previously using.

Cons: If you're looking for a small form factor motherboard to do SLI, this board fails at providing that feature. If you take a close look at the bottom of the board you will see that they placed the USB 3.0 connector there and it will come in contact with a second card installed on the motherboard. This puts pressure on the usb 3.0 cable that plugs into the connector causing it to bend possibly bending the pins and could cause an early board failure. Don't know how the design team let this by without a proper test fitting of a couple 780, 980 Titans or R9 290X's and realizing the placement the the usb 3.0 connectors was okay.

Other Thoughts: If you want to go SLI with this motherboard, consider watercooling to remove the added space of the stock coolers on the video cards or pick up a Titan Z or R9 295X and the usb 3.0 connectors can be used without causing any issues.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board, New Platform Woes..

Pros: Good, stable overclocker. Attractive design. Layout is pretty good. On-board audio actually isn't terrible, see other thoughts.

Cons: -Full size x16 PCI-E slots are picky. Can't get my X-Fi detected in any of them (x1 is okay, but the location renders it useless for me). This is a documented problem with X99, so I'm not going to put the board at fault entirely.

-Enabled C-states result in (Win 8.1) locking up (at stock & overclocked). Stuck running full bore for the time being. Hoping for a BIOS update soon.

-Qualcomm Atheros / Killer NIC is pretty gimmicky. Would have preferred the gold standard Intel controller.

-Resuming from sleep/hibernation results in defaulted CPU clocks with Gigabyte utilities installed. (Win 8.1 & Win 7)

-Gigabyte's Windows utilities are not great. Uninstalled those awfully quick. See above. Not a big deal for me, however.

Other Thoughts: -Stable with a 5820K @ 4.6GHz (1.35v, +0.25 offset), 4x8GB 2400MHz Crucial Sport.

-I do realize this is a brand new board on a new platform, with a new generation of memory. There's usually gonna be quirks. Hoping a couple BIOS updates smooths everything out. Get to er, Gigabyte.

-The Realtek ALC1150 codec. It's not as bad as I was expecting when I learned my X-Fi wasn't going to be happening. Probably on par with a cheaper (~$50?) dedicated sound card. Optical out to my stereo works fine. Analog out sounds good, better than previous Realtek codecs, for sure.

As it is currently, I'd give the board a 7/10 if I had that many eggs up there, but I don't.. so 4/5 it is. Fix these issues and it'd be just about perfect for a mATX build, I would say.
