Support for DDR4 XMP up to 3333MHz and Beyond

DDR4 memory modules are available at a stock frequency of 2133MHz, but memory vendors encode XMP profiles which can automatically modify the frequency and timings of the supported memory modules to work in par with your CPU. With the X99 Champion Series, GIGABYTE is offering a tested and proven platform that ensures proper compatibility with profiles up to 3333MHz, and exclusively 3400Mhz for the X99-SOC Champion.
* Note: For DDR4 XMP 3400MHz, please update BIOS to the latest version.

What is XMP?

The synchronization of the memory modules with the CPU is crucial for good performance of your system. DDR4 memory modules are available at a stock frequency of 2133MHz, but as frequency tweaking requires a considerable amount of effort and knowledge, memory vendors encode XMP profiles which can automatically modify the timings of the supported memory modules to work with your CPU and to achieve increased performance.

* XMP Profile support may vary depending on memory module. Please refer "Memory Support List" for more information.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard, while it lasted.

Pros: -Looks nice
-Relatively easy setup
-Robust BIOS, tons of tweaking options/overclocking options.

Cons: Lasted about a month until I started getting random lockups. After some extensive testing, I figured out that two of the memory slots would not work with any memory installed. I tried known good memory from various sources, nothing worked. However, the lazy in me is strong, I could deal with "only" 16 Gigs of ram. Also, the Gskill memory I used came directly from the approved memory list for this motherboard.

About 3 month later I had the same issue, only with a different memory slot. I was able to use my computer, but with only one functional memory slot. This issue has been echoed by more than a few other people, if I were anyone reading this, I would say go with a different motherboard. Don't roll the dice.

Other Thoughts: I checked the CPU and Memory against the approved list for this motherboard before purchasing them. I updated the BIOS to the latest, non-beta bios day one. Never overclocked.

As a side note, the RMA process through Gigabyte is atrocious. They take more than a work week to even get you an RMA number, which they say should only be two business days. After they received the motherboard for RMA, it takes an eternity to get it back. They have had my motherboard for over 12 days now and I still haven't heard back from them. No idea when I am getting it back. I've had no communication.

Steer clear of this motherboard.

1 out of 5 eggsStuck forever at Debug Error 50

Pros: The Board looks pretty and the orange LED on the board looks cool

Cons: I installed this new motherboard to my new gaming PC about 3 days ago, and after 3 days continuous testing, I am stuck at Debug Error 50, I tried with one RAM stick, two sticks and four sticks. I tried CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 2666 Quad and 16GB (2x8G) G.Skill 2133 Dual.

I only got lucky one time with one 8GB 2133Mhz G.skill stick in the RAM slot 1_A, and then no matter what I tried, the motherboard just won't get through POST, and continuously show me error code 60 and then finally stuck at code 50, and then go into the reboot loop by itself after that.... It just like this youtube video shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fzvQ9TJNFU

I don't know what's wrong with this board, but I am pretty pretty sure that my CPU, CPU cooler, GPU and all the SATA drives are perfect fine since the time I got lucky through POST with one stick G.skill 2133 RAM which I mentioned above, I was able to get into BIOS, and in the BIOS, I can see the current status of CPU and other components, the CPU temperature was at 27 degree, so my CPU and CPU cooler works perfectly, and all other SATA drivers are being recognized and detected, so I think there is something wrong with this motherboard...

1 out of 5 eggsThe Catastrophe Machine

Pros: -Might be able to get a class action lawsuit going

Cons: -Echoing what has been said

-UEFI refuses to load even with BIOS update

-Clearing CMOS does nothing

-Apparently no RAM known to human kind works on this board, I tried

-Gigabyte should be embarrassed

-I would give -5 for Gigabytes non-existent customer support, literally ticket in for 4 days (Processing status)

Other Thoughts: Stay way from Gigabyte at all costs. They do not value customer service, period.

1 out of 5 eggsmemory problems unresolved

Pros: On paper this looks like a very good motherboard. I am sure that the people who got a good one are very happy.

Cons: I have had problems from early on with this motherboard. On initial build, running stock speeds, everything tested out good. After about a week though, I started having BSODs and general system instability. I tracked the problem to a specific memory slot that was giving me problems. The problems were verified with both Memtest86+ and Windows memory tests. I returned the motherboard on RMA and had the processor replaced as well since it is difficult to say which component is the problem. I got the motherboard back from RMA with a no problems found diagnosis. So I re-assembled the system and re-loaded the OS to start with a fresh build. In the first couple of hours, I got 2 BSODs which stated that they were caused by Memory Management issues. So I ran the Windows memory tests again and it died in loop 12 of 15 of the normal test suite. Running Memtest86+ I got memory errors in loop 3 of 4. So in the first 2 days of getting the motherboard back, I had 4 errors all linked to memory problems, but the tech crew working on it could not find any problems. I ran these tests on 2 different sets of DDR4: Corsair CMK32GX4M4A2666C15 and Corsair CMK16GX4M4A2800C16R. Both of these memory sets pass the same tests in a Z170X system I am also building. I am disappointed with this purchase in general but even more so with my attempts to have the problem resolved.

Other Thoughts: I have used Gigabyte motherboards in all my builds for the last 15 years. I have been very lucky and had few problems with the boards I purchased. I even used Gigabyte motherboards in a project I did at work which involved the purchase of 15 motherboards. In that project we did have 2 motherboards drop out but the repairs were handled quickly and the problems resolved. The second system I am building is also based on a Gigabyte Z170X motherboard. I love their products and rate them as one of the best products out there. I am still hopeful that they will resolve this issue with me. After replacing the DDR4, processor, SSDs and video card in this system, I am pretty convinced that the motherboard is the problem.

Pros: None.

Cons: This thing is a piece of JUNK.
Half of the SATA ports do not work and neither does the BIOS>
I can hold down delete until my fingers bleed and the BIOS will still refuse to show.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Mobo

Pros: Had to send one back due to some faulty pins. (May have been shippings fault, but oh well. stuff like this happens). New Egg was fast, very dependable, and knowledgeable about everything there was. Got a new board, it works incredibly well, no issues, and goes insanely well with my build. Overclocks like a champ (Get it?) and has yet to disappoint me. Great purchase.

Cons: Just dislike getting something I end up having to ship back, but overall, a truly amazing purchase. Would do again in a heartbeat.

Other Thoughts: If you're on the fence, just get one. New Egg does a really good job of having your back in case something goes wrong.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Was yielding decent overclock performance... Was, because it died after 4 months!

Cons: Like many other deceived Gigabyte X99 motherboard user, my story is one of BIOS instability.

After reading quite a bit about the X99 SOC Champion, I managed to achieve a 4.5ghz stable overclock on a i7 5820K (memory was at 2800mhz and uncore/cache/system agent was at 4ghz, all voltage within acceptable range). System was stable under stress test for several hours. Never encountered any problems or errors during the stability testing phase.

Then, after about 4 months of normal usage, problems started:

First, it would sometime refuse to enter BIOS after pressing DEL/F2. Would simply hang there with a black screen doing nothing. Then, one day, it reported a problem with one of the attached hard drive and refused to boot to windows. After resetting it, it would enter a weird boot and reset dance while reporting seemingly unrelated boot error code (4F, 62, 64, AA, AC, 99 were the most common). The only way to have it boot back again was to leave only 1 out of 4 memory stick installed. DIMM slot position did not matter.

I managed to have it operate with up to 2 out of 4 stick for about a week before it started behaving weirdly again. It reported an SSD disk error (like last time, it was a false error) this time, even with one memory stick, I had trouble making it boot again. When it does, it sometimes freeze when in Windows even with default non overclocked BIOS settings!

After several days of struggling with this and trying a lot of different BIOS setting, I came to the conclusion that the board is dying. That is a shame because, initially, I had high hope for this motherboard and its special SOC socket (much like ASUS OC Socket)...

Other Thoughts: After reading other users report, who had similar problems with Gigabyte board and how X99 ASUS board are supposedly failing too, I could not help but think that maybe this is related to this "exclusive" SOC/OC Socket that both company used on several of their top of the line motherboard.

Basically, they added extra pins to the 2011-3 socket to connect to "secret" area on the CPU marketing them as "uber" performing overclock board...

That is my thoughts on the subject. That was my first high end Gigabyte board and, sadly, probably the last. I had problem with and EVGA MB too in the past. My previous X58 based ASUS board was rock solid, literally, one of the best system I had. Now, ASUS seems to be falling back in term of quality so I opted for an MSI X99 platform. Only time will tell if this turned out to be a good choice.

4 out of 5 eggsRAM Issue

Pros: Lots of features. It was a breeze to set everything up. Fast board.

Cons: After just over a month, the 3rd RAM slot died. The board would not POST and it kept throwing error code 50. Pulled all RAM sticks and installed them one at a time until I populated the 3rd RAM slot, at which time it threw code 50. RMAing this board. I hope the replacement is reliable. For as seemingly high end as this board is, I would expect better quality, although i understand these things happen. I'm giving it 4 eggs on the assumption that this was just a fluke because it work fine with only 3 RAM slots populated. But spending this kind of money on expensive hardware, nobody should have to live with only 3 usable RAM sticks.
