1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute junk

Pros: None.

Cons: Where to start.

After having it for a few months I had a couple caps blow. With those blown it was still semi functional. If the computer was left running 24/7 it was great. But if I had to restart or power went out or something to get it to boot back up I had to clear the CMOS.

Updating the BIOS was just a rigorous chore. Creating a bootable just for an update is absurd.

Other Thoughts: After replacing this board I gladly took it out back and used it as target practice for my shotguns. It felt amazing.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Was Cheap.

Cons: Is Cheap.

Other Thoughts: This board has limited CPU compatibility and the BIOS update proceedure is absurd - you have to have a bootable machine to install a BIOS update. I have never heard of such a thing!!

4 out of 5 eggsSeems nice- just reflash BIOS

Pros: It seems like a nice enough board, with lots of features and decent quality electrolytics. I'd suggest it, but only for a low price, considering even better competition.

Cons: You'll need a 65nm CPU and a Windows XP install to reflash the board before you can run a modern Wolfdale. The latest BIOS, as of my posting, is 2.0A. You'll again have to flash with the automated tool.

Other Thoughts: Mine came with faulty as an openbox. It's real intermittent and I've got to RMA to MSI. Not Newegg's fault, though - they can't test these :p

1 out of 5 eggsCheck Your Specs

Pros: Pamphlet and installation guide were detailed, better than other boards and easy to read.

Cons: I wanted a cheap fix to replace someones mob. Computer was running a Pentium D which says it supports. Well I get it all setup and boom no video. I call up the manufacture and wait forever on hold to have them tell me... "Only some Pentium D's are supported, mostly even numbers, but MY specific even numbered Pentium D is NOT supported." Thanks for being specific in listing your specs.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent for the price

Pros: Good quality, lots of SATA and USB connections, 45nm CPU support -- does anyone know if it will run a 45nm Quad? (Official CPU support only lists 65nm quads.)

Cons: Ships with 1.7 BIOS which may not work with newer 45nm CPUs out of the box (requiring a BIOS flash); motherboard does not support AHCI

Other Thoughts: I ordered and used 5 of these motherboards. 3 of them worked with an e5200 out of the box, 2 of them would POST, but go no further without a BIOS flash. All of them were BIOS 1.7 out of the box, so go figure.

*** EXPECT TO NEED TO FLASH THE BIOS ***

I seriously doubt that the number of people reporting DOA boards actually have bad boards, just incompatible CPUs until the BIOS is updated.

Do NOT order this board if you do not have access to an older 65nm CPU in order to flash the BIOS. Check the CPU compatibility chart on MSI's website to see which CPUs work with the 1.7 BIOS (latest is 1.0A from 11-08).

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Brightly colored, from the specs looks like everything you would need.

Cons: Possibly DOA.
Since there is no on-board video, cant really tell if the CPU is not registering or not really supported (their spec page says it is, but no beeps and such, and I know it works since I took it out of another and it worked, and then put back in and it worked), since maybe the video card is not supported or not working, maybe even the memory (but specs say the memory I am using is supported). If the processor (Pentium D830) or memory is not supported on shipped BIOS and settings, kinda hard to get it all working.
Based on extensive testing with components, I think it arrived with rigor mortis already set in. DOA. 2nd time ever had something DOA, no disappointment like it.
Board is real flimsy also.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate BIOS

Pros: It works. Finally.

Cons: If you buy this, there's a pretty good chance your processor isn't going to work with the BIOS version that it ships with. And it's not just the chips mentioned in the other reviews. My E6300 Pentium Dual Core didn't work. It boots to the MSI claw logo and freezes there. I had to take a quad core (65nm) chip out of a different computer, install Windows, install the MSI BIOS flash utility, flash the bios, switch the chip back, and it finally works.

3 out of 5 eggsdoes not work out of the box for current CPUs, Newegg please update BIOS for us

Pros: cheap, does the job. I use it as a server with Linux Debian on it. The Linux Software RAID 5 runs like a rocket on it, very nice. I would never dream of using the Chipset RAID on the mobo, the OEMs don't have a clue about RAID, not seen one that works properly.

Cons: Seemed DOA when I got it. This is a old board and Newegg did not do any BIOS upgrade, so it does not support the Intel Dual core 2.6gh E5300 CPU (45 nm) and hangs on bootup. Not cool!!! I found this out thanks to my expert knowledge and could update the BIOS with another CPU (one that was 65nm). I wonder how many returns Newegg gets, presumed DOA thanks to this. I mean, it must just be possible, out of the box to use this board and a normal nowadays CPU like the INtel E5300 and not have to first perform a BIOS upgrade. (which you won't be able to perform because you cannot even enter the BIOS, it crashes right at the start and looks like the Mobo went to heaven)

Other Thoughts: Amazing what you can get for so little money. Especially when you want to run a server on it, great stuff!!
