Not Pleased With Purchase...
- Pros: Looks good on paper, different story when running it. does have good onboard cooling that works really well.
Contrary to what people say, I used live update, turned off all the background programs, updated BIOS in Vista to 1.8 with no problems at all. NEWEGG IS THE ONLY THING I REALLY HAVE A PRO ABOUT!! GOT THE BOARD OUT FAST!! THANKS!! I JUST ABSOLUTELY HATE MY PURCHASE THOUGH!
- Cons: After installing vista, I tried setting up raid within Vista using the Matrix Program. I use 2 74GB Raptors in Raid0 for games. Well, this is alot harder to do than with any of the nVidia chipsets I had to go through. ICH9R is a joke and wouldn't allow my DVD-ROM to be noticed once I set it to RAID in the BIOS. Even turning on IDE Busmastering, it would see the drive, then crash back to the cr4ppy 2-Phase Power Motherboard cr4P. Everytime you do something in the BIO's or have to reset it, it turns on, then off, then on, then off, then on till you boot into Windows. HEY MSI, thats not good on the HARD DRIVES!
OH HEY!! THE CHIPSET DRIVERS BY INTEL ARE CR4PPY TOO!
- Other Thoughts: My file transfer speeds have absolutely tanked since moving from an Nvidia chipset to the Intel P35. How bout a driver update more than once every 3-4 months? Oh I can get good Frame rates in games, ONCE IT FREAKING LOADS cause of the cr4ppy slow downs in loading and TRANSFERING! M
My First Intel Chip/Chipset in 15 years and I am absolutely hating every freakin minute of it. Even if my 4200+ was slower than this Core 2, I could at least load fast under the Nvidia Chipset. IF you have to have P35, get teh one without the RAID setup, its fif-tee dollars cheaper. Go Nvidia and save yourself the hassle. I can't return it cause I have to have this system up, and can't wait for a replacement. >:-(
- Pros: Great motherboard, does everything properly in the bios, everything was automatic, all I had to do was adjust the multiplier on the cpu. Runs great!!! Excelent buy!!!
- Cons: You have to use the drivers either on the msi website, or that comes with the cd. Otherwise, windows vista audio/lan drivers cause blue screens.
Slow BIOS
- Pros: Runs my system. Great benchmarks. (As to my P4 Prescott, 1GB D-CH PC3200, 6800Ultra AGP). Haven't felt a hot northbridge.
- Cons: Slow working BIOS. Maybe it's the IDE controller. And when you push the power button, instantly on. For a second. Then goes off (Everything shuts down, including the HD), for another second, then finally powers on. Very slow windows XP startup (Because of extra IDE controller enabled?), blue sliding bar during startup goes 10-14 times.
- Other Thoughts: Maybe if I were to get an SATA CD-DVD drive and shut off the IDE contoller (Seperate controller from southbridge), it would post faster? Goes through post, 2-3 seconds, then another little BIOS for a Marvell controller, 1-2 seconds, then a black screen for about 3-4 seconds and then finally startup. BIOS v1.2, but v1.7 is Available for download. As for playing with overclocking features, very much recommend unplugging the HD power connector until your ready to go into windows. BIOS will go on/off, on/off, on/off then reset and on if bad adjustment. Even if it wasn't a bad adjustment, it sometimes still goes on/off, on/off on. Otherwise, just the usaul on/off, on.
System: E6550 Core2 Duo @ 3003MHz/1715FSB at stock voltage, 4GB D_CH G.Skill PC2-8000 @ 1029MHz, 2.1volts, 7900GT OC (Factory OverClocked), 256M.
