1 out of 5 eggsnot to happy

Pros: Works with my AMD X2 4800+, 4 out of my 6 sata drives, and my 8gb of ddr2

Cons: bought this board thru a local retailer that bought thru newegg. i originally bought this board for a high end gaming system. i also bought a phenom II 940 to go on it. this board has fried three of them. first two it tried to post even tho the board didn't recognize the cpu. this is the first board i have used that has not given a cpu id error when it did not recognize the cpu. retailer replaced the board with one with an updated bios (2.3) the board recognized the cpu but fried that one also. i tried returning the board to go evga and intel but now i am stuck with it. also not all the sata ports will work. the two dark purple "e-stata" ports on the mobo don't recognize drives.

Other Thoughts: Also i would like to add that i am a computer repair tech so i'd know if i set it up incorrectly

5 out of 5 eggsDual channel

Pros: Still works, no problems, Finally figured out how dual channel goes on this board.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I've read about this board and people are saying if you have two memory sticks put them in different color slots to ensure dual channel mode. You actualy want them in the same color slots. I guess the confusion comes from other brand mobo's that use different color slots. The paper work doesn't really explain that good.

5 out of 5 eggsSatisfied Owner

Pros: I bought This MOBO in Jan 2009 with a Be 2400 processor to check it out and run until I completed my build, But Didn't get it Online until a month later when I ordered a Corsair 850 watt PS and 4 gb of Corsair Memory. I am on Social Security and This has Taken until May until I am ready to Order my Phenom II 940. This Board has never even hiccupped. Solid as a rock fast and Dependable. It is ESA Ready and I have it configured as such.
My Understanding is that I'm in for a pleasant surprise when I install The Phenom II 940 processor, from all the reviews. I have Flashed The Bios Twice When Upgrades were announced by MSI with no problems.

Cons: None, My First Build since 1998 and it has worked out perfect except taking some hits on price cuts. I paid $239 for this and now its $194.99. My Case Dropped $40 since I bought it. I'm tempted to build another identical computer to take advantage of the price cuts.

Other Thoughts: I'm hearing This MOBO can Be Upgraded to an AM3 Processor and DDR3 memory. I would like to see some official word on this.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Features - Complications

Pros: The board supports lots of stuff with a high end sound card. Good performance and can run DDR2 1066 stable with AMD2+ processors unlike similar ASUS boards, but requires changes in BIOS. Future upgradable to AM3 with a BIOS Flash Upgrade.

Cons: First Borad died at approximately 1 month but MSI promply replaced it. Total pain to flash BIOS. Live updates wouldn't work, had to create Windows 98 Boot Up Recovery Disk and flash from a floppy, not a for-beginners process. Can not run 2 XFX 285 in SLI without BIOS update. Running SLI, system fans run full blast constantly.

Other Thoughts: With AMD2+ Denab 940 & Corsair Dominator 8GB RAM, system screams!

3 out of 5 eggsR3set

Pros: Nice motherboard with expandibility

Cons: Would shut down withing 60 secs of boot so I never got to try it. Couldn't even load windows so I'm RMAing it

Other Thoughts: Would really like a board that worked on arrival

4 out of 5 eggsN/A

Pros: Aesthetically I love this board and its looks had a lot to do with why I bought it. I have owned MSI motherboards before and never had any reason to doubt their quality and still don't. With this board you have plenty of options in the bios to personalize to your needs. It has a ton of passive cooling, sata ports, usb ports, room for long graphics cards and tweakable features. The pci audio card is a nice touch and has decent sound quality.

Cons: The780a chip has a lot of potential with the right bios. In my opinion bios version 2.3 which is the latest right now needs work. It does the job but is squirrely and unforgiving , one wrong move and you will have bsod, lockups and headaches.

Other Thoughts: When reading the reviews keep in mind that some of the bad ones are written by clueless builders.
If you are following basic ESD guide lines and understand or are willing to research what the settings in the bios do and how they affect the system you will find this to be a good reliable and customizable motherboard. if you don't know what you are doing it will seem like a piece of junk. Some things that made me doubt this board but turned out not to be its fault are the bios don't fully install if you use MSIs auto updater with Vista not cool with a new Phenom my voltages maxed on everything. NVIDIA graphics card drivers come with software to allow tweaking in windows. When you reboot for the install the changes to the memory timings that the software makes might not let you keep windows up long enough to get in there and change them. I took an egg for half baked bios but don't keep let that keep you from buying this board the new ones will be better each release.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat board .... when it worked

Pros: Board was purchased from newegg by a customer of mine.... He was elated with the build I did for him. This board was absolutely fantastic, when it worked.

Cons: worked for about 2 months, then started slowing down, crapped out, tried to do an advanced RMA from MSI and they would not do it at any cost! This is a mission critical CPU and I now have second thoughts about MSI... AGAIN. I hadn't used MSI for over 10 years because their quality went down the toilet in the late 90s.

Other Thoughts: MAKE SURE YOU TAKE AN ACID BRUSH AND EITHER LAQUER THINNER OR ACETONE TO THE BACK OF THE BOARD BEFORE BUILDING IT UP TO GET THE GOO OFF THE BACK!!!! I didn't see it on the diamond board, but I did on a platinum that I bought for myself.... I cleaned mine and it works great....... the diamond appeared clean at the build, but dust (after 2 mo. of use) disclosed the goo pattern..... this is NOT flux remover as I originally thought... it is a mask for the surface mount components!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mainboard

Pros: Lots of features. No problems with X-fi install. Bios update was handled by MSI liveupdate so processor was recognized appropriately.

Cons: I have to agree the placement of the fan power jacks is a bit odd but overcome with all the additional cables provided.

5 out of 5 eggsAWSOMENESS

Pros: This board is amazingly fast. Raid is very easy to set up.

Cons: OC ing is a little difficult.

Other Thoughts: read the manuel, update the bios, and DO NOT INSTALL THE LIVE UPDATE MANAGER. it will cause you to blue screen every time after you update it.

3 out of 5 eggsFun Board

Pros: very easy to build, if useing WnXP be sure it has SP2-3 or you will get a PCI.SYS error.

Cons: You need to update BIOS useing USB to get AMD Phenom to be recongised. Still can't get DDR2 1066 ram to work, still useing 800. With geforce 9600 GSO the it locks up at times (don't know if its the MoBo or the video card) would like someone to contact to talk to about it!

Other Thoughts: Get a good power supply and know your BIOS
