1 out of 5 eggsStay away

Pros: 6 SATA and 16GB RAM capabilities

Cons: NO Hyper-V capabilities in BIOS. Do not get this board if you plan to do anything with Hyper-V. Reliability is poor and there are bad reviews about RMA. If you buy this board, buy the extended service. My MB died in only 3 months and was difficult to diagnose.

Other Thoughts: Looked good on paper and the price looked good, but real life is another thing. Make sure to take a look at other offerings before selecting this board. I am looking for a replacement as I write this.

4 out of 5 eggsNice little board

Pros: Solid price. All the connectors you would ever want. Great overclocking abilities and it runs at solid temps.

Cons: Bad BIOS. Bios won't automatically return to previous settings if your overclock fails. It says it will, but the bios freeze which requires you to clear the CMOS to get it working again. This requires me to remove my video card to use the CMOS clear jumper.

Other Thoughts: Other than the subpar bios, it's a great board with anything you'd ever want for midlevel performance. You can even squeeze a little highend juice out of it.

2 out of 5 eggsHighly dissappointed

Pros: Nice features, had it worked. Had the board been physically broken upon receipt, I would have given 1 egg.

Cons: I wanted to make sure it wasn't the MB, swapped: power supplies, & proc. Removed video & sound card, nada. Removed hard drives and CD drive, nada. DOA, I will be RMAing this product.

Other Thoughts: If it works for you, kudos. I won't be buying MSI again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great setup, high quality parts, works great in my MMC

Cons: Mine came with an old BIOS, see below

Other Thoughts: Mine came with a BIOS 3 versions old. This took a while to diagnose but flashing it fixed a lot of problems. Whole system was sluggish, especially the mouse and keyboard.

4 out of 5 eggswell..

Pros: This motherboard is loaded with lots of built in features, most of which the average computer user will never use. Has HD output and runs really smoothly with both Windows XP AND Vista Enterprise

Cons: Drivers are hard to get working with some older software due to the fairly new chipset. Support will surely increase as time goes by. Dont expect this board to be easily installed. The MSI website in RED lettering explains that the memory must be adjusted to work properly..

Other Thoughts: do your homework. It will pay off

5 out of 5 eggsperfect

Pros: GREAT quality had a jetway on last build and spent 3 hours with surgical needle nose straightening pins. This board is thick and has a great bios setup.

Cons: how come rush delivery and next day shipping is the same time waiting as standard shipping on any product... could of saved a few hundred this week

Other Thoughts: wish i had a local store mmmm id be broke

2 out of 5 eggsUgh. .

Pros: Haven't had problems with MSI in the past. . . . .but. . .

Cons: Using this board to upgrade a friend's older ASUS mobo. Have sent a tech support request to MSI so just waiting for a response. Got everything setup and hooked up, fired up the machine, did the quick BIOS setup MSI recommends for initial startup, saved and exited, system rebooted. . .Right as the Vista loading screen started to fade in... PFFT reboot. . . .Restart Repair Utility for Vista comes up, run it, of course "cause unknown". Shut the computer down, boot it up again, go into BIOS, check all the settings, everything is fine, save and exit, reboot. . .Vista loading screen fades in.. PFFT reboot. . .*sigh* hopefully MSI will be able to help. . .and I can come back and write another good report for an MSI product. . .unless the 5th time is going to lemon out on me :/

3 out of 5 eggsThe jury is still out, and will never be in

Pros: ** Follow-up to a prior review **

Love all of the connectors for disks, USB, etc...

Cons: When it comes to memory, this motherboard is not exactly plug and play. It is time consuming configuring memory so that it will work reliably with MS Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium edition. In the end, I ended up taking 6GB of the 8GB of Kingston RAM out, and leaving in a single 2GB chip. The system finally seems to be somewhat stable -- it only crashes once a week or so now. I still can't nail it down to be a Vista issue, or with the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I rotated each 2GB stick of RAM through the motherboard to see if any particular stick may have been defective. The results did not change with any particular stick -- so I'm pretty confident Kingston's RAM is not the culprit here.

For someone who has never built a PC, DO NOT purchase this board -- it'll frustrate you to no end getting the BIOS voltage settings correct for the recommended memory. The auto-detect memory settings do not seem to work; you'll have to manually configure it. I've built about two or three dozen PCs over the past 15 years, and this motherboard has been the most frustrating I've ever dealt with in getting up and running.

4 out of 5 eggsGood office motherboard

Pros: G45, ICH10, parallel port, acceptable video performance for on-board (no gaming please!)

Cons: really picky about memory. It would not even post with G Skill 1066 ram even after I set the voltage and timing. Worked fine with A-Data 800 Mhz (2 x 1GB) but it set the voltage to 1.95v when the SPD is 1.8v. After manually setting memory and running everything else at stock settings, works fine. BIOS rev is 1.10 (the latest, so far)

Other Thoughts: Bought it for an office machine and needed the parallel port. It works just fine for that, but, don't expect too much from this board. System: E8400, A-Data 2x1GB memory, Antec Earthwatts 430 etc. Windows XP Pro SP3. Everything running stock, but it runs fine and is stable. Oddly, CPUZ reports that it has a ICH10R SB chip.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI Intel G45

Pros: I ordered this motherboard specifically for the reason that if you install a video card with a dual slot cooler, none of the pci slots are taken up. I can fit a wireless adapter card and a sound card onto this motherboard. Layout is really good compared to my last mATX buy, pins are situated better to connect to front panels. Fits and runs 4 sticks of DDR2 1066 with a large aftermarket HSF and runs stable so far. Good onboard sound. Fits in my MicroFly case and works with it's probably inefficient stock power supply. Compatible with Wolfsdale core CPUs. Compatible with up to 16 gigabytes of RAM. (Is that even needed for a SFF PC?) Onboard video is average quality.

Cons: Had to manual set all voltage and timings for my memory to even POST. Auto detect doesn't auto detect anything. Kind of digging here, but MSI could have chosen a better color scheme perhaps. In addition, I realize I bought an open box of this product but I was given nVidia chipset drivers for this motherboard... hmm... Onboard video will not run Crysis?

Other Thoughts: All in all, this motherboard has great value. Good architecture, great capabilities. I can see this motherboard fitting anyone building a budget PC's needs. Given the proper CPU and video card, this board could be the heart of a serious video game contender.

Core Specs:
MSI G45M-FD Motherboard
Intel E6600 processor
4x 2g sticks of G.Skill DDR2-1066
HIS ATI 4670 HD
