Get affordable graphics and computing performance with Micro-Star's KA780G motherboard. Based on AMD's 780G and SB700 chipsets, this ATX form-factor board is designed to support single- and multi-core socket AM2+ and AM2 processors including Phenom, Athlon 64 and Sempron CPUs.
Easily gain more power with an easy-to-use overclocking switch which allows support for 140W CPUs for future upgrades in processor capabilities. Dominate your applications and games with up to 8GB of DDR2 memory fitting into four 240-pin slots with dual channel support and 2600 Mhz Hyper Transport technology for increased performance. Onboard Gigabit Ethernet LAN means that you can connect to other networked devices without running into a bottleneck.
The integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 chipset can be augmented with a PCI-Express x16 graphics card to achieve Crossfire-linked performance at a fraction of the price. Video can be output through the DVI, D-Sub or HDMI ports and accompanied by eight channels of sound from the Realtek ALC888 audio chipset. Five 3Gb/s SATA connectors give you the ability to store massive amounts of data locally with several RAID configurations possible for extra security and high-speed performance and an eSATA port provides the same capabilities for an external drive. A half-dozen USB 2.0 ports give you additional options in connecting and expanding your system.

MSI KA780G-F AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
- Pros: Great, clean layout. The perfect amount of connections with nice expandable options. PCI-e 2.0 capable.
- Cons: The LAN driver didn't want to install, after some fiddling, got it to work. Could be due to the fact I run Vista x64.
- Other Thoughts: I've been building computers since '95. I was ecstatic to see that MSI is still making full size ATX boards with a solid layout. I've been running with this board for 3 weeks now straight and not a single issue has popped up.
AMD Tricore 8650 4 Gigs of DDR2 800 GSkill RAM (will be upgraded to 8 shortly) ATi Visiontek 4870
I can't comment on the quality of the onboard sound since I'm running a sound card.
Decent Board No Problems
- Pros: 4GB Corsair, AMD 4850e, Antec Sonata III w/500w Earthwatts P/S. Worked out of the box. Sounds different than previous ASUS boards. Has a beep then a funny dual chirp (saying O.K.?) Temps, both board and CPU are very cool. Highest CPU I have seen is 33C and that was MS loading about 60 updates. System is extremely quiet. Just a slight whisper. 2 fans, 120mm case (set to low) and CPU (runs 1800rpm most of the time) Does what I need it to do.
- Cons: The floppy connector is in a funny spot. Cable management is a bit tricky. Probably time to get rid of the thing.
- Other Thoughts: Been building my own for about 7 years now. Have a son plays on-line shooter games and found I could build a decent game machine for a reasonable amount of $. Currently have 3 of my own in the house. Use similar parts so 1 upgrade means parts moved around. My youngest will be getting an upgrade to his XP2500 next year. As always, NewEgg Rocks!

- Pros: I used this board to build an HTPC/Web Design PC.
Quick Specs: Windows 7 64-Bit 8 Gig DDR2 800 G.Skill Memory 1 TB Hatachi Hard Drive MSI Radeon HD 4870 1GB (Using the boards Hybird CrossfireX)
I am running two Hanns.G 24inch 1080i displays and a 42inch Sharp for home theather viewing with this setup.
I love this board, works like a charm.
- Cons: Maybe it's me, maybe it's my PC Case, but my connectors will not fit on the little tabs for the power switch, the hdd lights, etc. They fit loosely and if I put the power switch on, i can't fit another connector next to it, so I have no signal lights, first time I have ever run into this. ?? Maybe because my case is old?
- Other Thoughts: I will continue to use MSi. I haven't bought one of their boards in like 4 years, I've been using laptops and this is my first home PC build in awhile, and I am glad they still make quality products. Just like back in the day when Windows XP was the new thing.
Msi not up to snuff
- Pros: Board worked thats about it.The on board sound works well oddly enough.
- Cons: The board is really narrow.Long and narrow more like the width of a micro board than a full size board. I have a Nvidia 9800 gtx + video card so 1 pci slot is total blocked. The lay out of the boad is the worst i have seen the sata plug locations are blocked off by the back of the video card. I have a antec 900 case so i had to move every thing around but the bottom pci slot is very close to the power supply.I put a new sound card in the bottom pci slot and could not get it to work.I got an older sound card and that did not work either .So checked it out and the bottom pci slot is bad after 1 week. i am not go to bother with RMAing the board just going to toss it in the trash ordered an asus board to take its place. On an older asus board the 5000+ be was clocked at 3.6 i cant keep this one stable at that speed . I was however able to get it stable at 3.1.
- Other Thoughts: I got this board for my child's pc so i seen this one for 77 bucks free ship so i thought i would give it a try. If your looking for a Mid level board this one really is not a good choice there are a lot of boards for 10-20 bucks more to make your build a lot smoother.
Nice board - buy it
- Pros: Very well motherboard. First time MSI user but I think is better than any other brand. (Believe there is an upgrade path to AM3 socket via MSI bios update) I like the on-board button that clears CMOS value. I am sold to MSI boards given this board's values.
- Cons: Overclock Jumpers do not work well as I had thought.
