Get affordable computing performance with MSI's 790FX-GD70 motherboard. Based on AMD's 790FX and SB750 chipsets, this ATX form-factor board is designed to support the latest AM3 Phenom II processors. With DrMOS OC technology. Instead of discrete MOSFETS and a Driver IC, DrMOS integrates all three into one package that takes up less space, uses less power and is much more power efficient.

Dominate your applications and games with up to 16GB of DDR3 memory fitting into four 240-pin slots with dual channel support and 2600 MHz Hyper Transport technology for increased performance. Onboard Gigabit Ethernet LAN means that you can connect to other networked devices without running into a bottleneck.

Four PCI-Express 2.0 x16 cards can be mounted for cutting-edge graphic power with support for quad ATI CrossFireX. Eight 3Gb/s SATA connectors give you the ability to store massive amounts of data locally with several RAID configurations possible for extra security and high-speed performance, and an eSATA port provides the same capabilities for an external drive. Seven USB 2.0 ports give you additional options in connecting and expanding your system.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome MOBO, especially for the money!

Pros: I thought it high time I write a review on this Mobo. I bought it here on Newegg back in 2009 along with the AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE CPU and I'll be darned if these jokers aren't still running like champs! I've been contemplating upgrading, but why? I don't know, I guess I just have googly eyes for new tech, but this build along with 8gb 1600 DDR3 Ram has been running solid since that time with all kinds of gaming power. I think I have gone through 4 GPUs in the time I've owned the CPU/Mobo combo. Good stuff! I now have it on Windows 10 without issues (at least hardware issues...stupid microsoft auto-updates). Thank you MSI for a cheap solid build for cost conscience gamers!

Cons: None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: Way to late to buy, but if you can grab new (unlikely) then pair it with a Phenom II X4 955 and be happy for years!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat durable and long lasting board

Pros: I've had this motherboard as my main PC for about 5 years now, running a Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition. Only problem I had was when first setting it up and found out it needs a good 500+ Watt power supply and ever since then, it's been solid as a rock. Currently dual booting Windows 10 and Slackware 14.1 and have two AMD 6950's in CrossfireX and still handles all I throw at it.

Cons: You can't get by with using a wimpy power supply with this motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I just need to get a Phenom II X6 1090T or greater now.

2 out of 5 eggsWon't buy MSI MoBos again

Pros: Useable and it's lasted 5 years for what was meant to be an overclock build for Skyrim.

Cons: Red light was on from the start, setting to power on through keyboard never took, techsupport wasn't much help with either case, seemed they resigned to defeat too early as if they knew there was nothing they could do, the boot interface is lacking, and stopped using four sticks of RAM because the latch for one & a half slots were woefully snug, so much with one I would have to leave one side barely latched if I wanted to use all sticks comfortably. Also had the problem of snugness with two heatsinks, because one corner near the screwhole was ever so slightly warped and curling, but didn't affect anything other than my worry with this purchase. Admittedly I should've sent it back, but knew I could live with this.

Other Thoughts: Careful when buying discount bundle deals.
Especially with motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Motherboard

Pros: My Whole computer had a massive fall from shoulder heigth, The motherboard was still kicking strong after that. So this board is great, well made, many SATA ports for all my drives I still have not attempted to use the O.C.

Cons: My first board died about after three months, I RMA'd it and revieced a new one promptly, that was in 2010, and now it is 2013 and the new one they sent me has been running strong so no egg drops

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It has never truly given me much hardship works great on all basic settings.

Cons: All the utilities on it dislike me because they don't want to work for me. I tried to overclock it the other day using the genie program given to me and it reboot my computer and just kept rebooting for about an hour. Now this happened to me once before and it was when i noticed my CPU Nb voltage was in the red according to the utility (MSI Control center that is) it says 1.151 in red and if I changed it so that it was in blue like all the others. Now after doing this it reboots indefinitely until i reset my cmos but then the voltage goes to red. Spoke to someone from msi but it took me almost a month of leaving messages to reach them and all they said was reset the cmos so i have now given up.

Other Thoughts: Honestly on basic settings I could not have asked for a better mb for my first build and will always recommend msi to anyone who asks.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!! :/

Pros: Amazing, I'm no stranger tobuying MSI motherboards... Every one of them not all of the utillities all work on them, but most of there boards are better off sticking to BIOS anyway. This was the first board I bought of MSI used, but do to there personal reputation for being very reliable and very powerfull this one was no dissapointment! I Bought this board with the quad core for $200 and was a fianaminal investment. I'm currently running an OCz 600w power supply, my AMD 1100T x6 processor overclcked to 4.0ghz at cpuv-4.5v cpunb-v 1.125v HTT 2500mhz and NB 2500mhz with water cooling, an Nvidia 9800GT EVGA Superclcker, 4x 1TB WD caviar Black Hard drives, and 4 sticks of Corsair 4GB 2000mhz memory. All features work great still plenty of room for adjustment but I don't want to push my expensive hardware too hard yet though this board has PLENTY more head space for overclocking and video upgrades. But is completely unnecessary for even todays most demanding games.

Cons: The only cons is that I didn't know about it sooner, and that though the manual control knob on the board works JUST FINE, it is much more practical and effective to do your self straight from the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: Been building my own gaming computers since I first worked in a computer shop when I was 12, MSI has been the highest performance for it's price by far and extremely reliable still upholding there standards when they built boards and electronics for the Military.
