Great board
- Pros: Able to unlock the Phenom II x550 right out of the box. My board shipped with BIOS 1.4 so I was able to just change the settings and away I go. Integrated ATI 3300HD with 1gigaBIT of dedicated DDR3 memory (ends up being ~700megaBYTES) works well, it runs GTA IV decently at 35-40 fps although I do plan on buying an ATI 5850 if companies ever decide to start manufacturing them. Running 3.1ghz x4 cores at 32 degrees celsius under full load using stock AMD heatsink/fan.
- Cons: North bridge gets a little warm, but not really a con as all motherboards now do. Some people are listing that the BIOS flash method on this board is a con, but MSI makes it easy. You can 1. Flash the bios from INSIDE the bios (the bios will also allow you to save the current bios to usb before flashing) 2. Boot from usb and flash the bios using dos, 3. do the same thing but with a floppy, 4. do the same thing but with a CD, 5. Flash the bios in windows, or 6. use the web liveupdate and do it that way. I'm pretty sure this is the easiest motherboard I've seen to flash the bios if you need to.
- Other Thoughts: Not sure if I got lucky or if the other reviewers shorted out their boards, but this board is the best and easiest I've ever worked with.
Phenom 720
- Pros: I've already reviewed this board, and I still love it
- Cons: Not really. Only that the memory is so close to my enormous cooler that it blocks 2 ports.
- Other Thoughts: I just flashed to bios version 1.5, and turning ACC back on unlocked my fourth Phenom II x3 core. I couldn't be happier!
Never again
- Pros: Firstly, Newegg is awesome, as usual. My order was processed and shipped the next day.
Very nice board. Laid out well and nice bios settings.
- Cons: CUSTOMER SERVICE and RMA
I recieved my board slightly damaged from shipping; a ding in the audio jack and a chip in a corner. It worked so i didn't bother to return it. Shortly after Newegg's return policy ended, maybe 3 or 4 weeks after purchase, the voltage control on the board died, frying the board and my processor. I RMA'd the board. After almost a month my repair was denied due to the damage. Damage that was pre-existing from my receiving it. I was given 12 hours to refute it, which i missed due to being on vacation during the holiday. I refuted it as soon as i got home, bu i never heard back from them. A week later i had the same broken motherboard back. So, now I've paid $120 for a motherboard and am left with nothing but a burnt piece of silicon. Thanks MSI...
- Other Thoughts: My worst experience to date with an RMA.
Customer service is brief and has little to no knowledge of the actual repair, all they know is what step your RMA is on, which is available on their website. The RMA itself is said to take a week to finish. They take their sweet time with it but yet expect a near instant refute from the customer. Communication about the repair is absolute minimal and i was left in the dark for most of it.
AMD replaced my processor within 4 days of my shipping it. They called me when they received it, when they diagnosed it, and when they shipped the new one, which was over-nighted to me, all in the same day. Everything had a corresponding email. MSI needs to take a lesson on RMAs and customer service...
Other thoughts for those that might buy/already have one: The "ATI Hybrid Graphics", which was one of the main selling points of the board for me, does not work with most modern video cards. If you're interested in using this, be sure to research on it
