3 out of 5 eggsWorked for 2 years then NB/GPU failed

Pros: Board worked good in general use desktop for 2 years
it was reasonably priced as it wasn't the lastest tech. I was going for quality and the solid caps on PWM as the previous board failed due to bad caps.
This board has pretty decent features for an AM2+.

Cons: very disapointing the NB/GPU started to fail after only 2 years. System started locking up hard. Of course I had to go through the huge hassle of testing all other system hardware fully to find everything else was good.

Removing my Nvidia GPU and testing the the internal graphics showed NB/GPU to be very defective with distorted graphics and colors and even when the system locked up there was flickering of pixels over the DVI. A few months before I had a couple HT sync flood errors to should have known it was a sign of thigns to come.

Long term quality is what I was after with a fairly low tech board and to see it only last 2 years when I have hardware that has lasted 10 or more is unacceptable.
preparing to RMA

Other Thoughts: Board was running with a slightly older tech Athlon X2 5200+, 2GB of DDR2 800, an Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB which was all it needed for basic desktop use.
On newer boards I go with all solid caps and other signs of quality.
There is nothing more annoying than dis-functional hardware. Speed is often overrated as important. Even for gaming quality is critical. Even if you replace your system every year resale and hand me down value is important for what systems cost.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Board

Pros: -Small form factor.
-Upgrades to hardware still available and affordable
-Supports core unlocking and the BIOS layout and overclocking control is top notch for the price.

Cons: - Small form factor means limited use of PCI ports if you decide to use a graphics card that takes up more than one slots space with its heatsink (in my case an EVGA NVidia GTX560.
- MSI's LiveUpdate client is unreliable and unpolished.
- If a RAM or some CPU overclocking attempt fails to POST it requires you to reset the BIOS via jumper which means you need to start all over again unless you noted all your previous settings.

1 out of 5 eggsTotal useless garbage...

Pros: very nice board when it works
3 year MSI warrenty

Cons: unreliable

Other Thoughts: im on my fourth board, i would go with a different brand but i have a warrenty with MSI. i purchased one of these boards from a local computer store in october 2010. it functioned perfectly untill december 2011 when it unexpectidly died in the middle of a game. my second one never worked right, and died in june 2012, my third one just died 2 weeks ago when i was prompted by windows to restart my machine, and it never booted back up. i just got my fourth one today, and am keeping a day counter on it until it dies too. very dissapointed in this board.

4 out of 5 eggsout dated but dose the job

Pros: runs well the bios are easy to navigate i bought it on a budget and needed something with on board video and this fit the bill running it with a phoneme II x6 1055T OC to 3.4ghz

Cons: speed fan doesn't like it

Other Thoughts: for some reason it doesn't like being OC'd above 3.5ghz but it does the job

4 out of 5 eggsdecent board

Pros: easy overclocking, stable board. been running my Phenom X4 9850BE at 3ghz with excellent results. Once I figured out the controls, overclocking was a bree!

Cons: MATX... Could use 2 more RAM slots and another pci slot or two. Northbridge is too close to pcix slot, makes upgrading its cooler difficult. Would be nicer to be able to use other pci slot with a good video card...

Other Thoughts: overall decent board for the money. will upgrade to a board with more pci slots and ram slots in near future. Good starter board for those of us on a budget.

1 out of 5 eggsMSI Quality Declining. Hypertransport erro.

Pros: None. Doesnt' work. Piece of junk. Better off buying another brand altogether.

Cons: Bought this mobo a little over a month ago and have been having problems ever since. Had a AMD 3600+ Brisbane lying around and some OCZ Gold series 2GB RAM. Put the system together and everything seemed ok at first not more than 2 days later after installing OS and all updated drivers hit with the infamous HT FLOOD SYNC ERROR. Tried all options so far even thought to RMA back to retailer but I thought maybe I just need a CPU upgrade bought X3 450 Rana. No go with new CPU either try booting into linux or even into windows 7 (strange slowdowns). Checked all rail voltages with a digital multimeter and everything is fine. In the meantime my return period expired and finally right then tried to RMA but asked MSI to cross ship a different board but they don't have it in stock. So even went to a local store and purchased the same item to see if this was just my board but same problem with the local purchased item. Purchased many MSI boards never had a problem. Poor customer service.

Other Thoughts: I am basically out of 60-70 bucks for this board with best MSI says they can do is replace it with 785gtm-e51 which is DDR3 version and after reading on MSI forums MSI's 785g line runs rampant with SYNC flood problems. I think though 785gtm-e45's main problem is lack of bios update. Finally decided to go with Biostar. Now stuck with piece junk with no possibility of return and MSI's lack of concern with regard to this HT sync problem. POOR CUSTOMER SERVCIE MSI. Loosing a long time customer and surely will never buy MSI again.

4 out of 5 eggsValue HTPC Board

Pros: I was trying to keep costs down and this mobo was able to save me a little in a upgrade package on my HTPC.

The board has worked as advertised and without hiccup and has been running 24/7 with Win7 64-bit Home Premium for many months now. Loaded the most recent drivers from web for all components and I haven't had a single issue.

I've been very impressed with the on-board HDMI output and how it has worked with my Panasonic Plasma and Epson Projector. Looks and works great.

I was able to reuse my old RAM and CPU in this box because it has such broad AMD socket support. Four year old processor easily handles HD video and Blu-ray video output.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Running Blu-ray discs with the onboard video does not allow for lossless audio (Dolby TrueHD or DTS-MA) over HDMI. This is a limitation of the ATI Radeon HD 4000-series chipset, though. In expensive future upgrade to a Radeon HD 5000-series card will solve this.

3 out of 5 eggs3 pin cpu fan not automated

Pros: good price
good features
good upgrade path if you have older parts

Cons: Does not support the automatic speed control of a 3 pin CPU fan (4 pin is supported)

If you have a 3 pin CPU fan this board will run that fan at 100% all the time

For me this is worth the 2 eggs I am deducting in my review as purchasing another decent CPU heat sink and fan is nearly the cost of this MB. I was replacing a dead MB in an older system and if I would have known about this I would not have purchased this board.

Here is the response from MSI when I asked them:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thanks for contacting msi technical support team!

We are sorry that because of the circuit designs,we could not add cpu smart function for 3 pin's connector fan in the BIOS. The difference between 3pins and 4pins is that the second has a temperature controller but the first does not.We would suggest you utilize a 4-pin CPU Fan in order to control the CPU Fan speed.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused you!

Best regards,
MSI Technical Support Team

Other Thoughts: y I have a manual 3 pin fan controller from an old Zalman heat sink, otherwise I would RMA the board.

As it stands I am still considering returning it for this simple design flaw/annoyance.
